-We'd like to keep a loyal Tide user such as yourself in the Tide family, Megan. We're very sorry you had that experience. Laundry detergent cannot cause your clothes to have a foul smell. There are several potential causes - infrequent use of a machine; a build-up of residue in your machine; incorrect product dosage (not enough product used can cause dirt build up in the machine); leaving clothes in the machine after washing; leaving dirty/sweaty clothes in the machine for a long period before washing; or drying in non ventilated areas. To prevent malodor, regularly run a maintenance wash; don't overload the washer - wash smaller loads, especially for high absorbent items such as towels; use at least the recommended amount of detergent (more for large loads, very dirty clothing or if you have very hard water); remove items from the washer as soon as the cycle has been completed; do not allow wet clothes to remain in the drum for an extended period; start wash soon after putting the clothes in the machine; wash using the hottest water safe for your garments, according to the care label; keep the door of the washer slightly open when not in use; dry clothes in a dry and well ventilated room if drying indoors; and wait until fabrics are completely dry before putting them away.
