Almost perfect; too much plastic

I've only had my Aiden for a week now but I'm genuinely grateful to have a coffee maker that is dialed into the details to make a great cup (or pot) of coffee without the manual attention pour over requires. Although it's not perfect. The app is a joke in its current state. Really it shouldn't have been released yet because there's no reason or usefulness in it today. I am hopeful for its promising future state. Biggest miss to me is the excessive plastic - the putter housing is one thing but I'm specifically concerned about the components that come in contact with near boiling temperatures. Brewing through plastic - especially at this price point - is a real oversight to me. I think you can do better Fellow!

The start of something great

I've doing pourovers with near daily frequency for a couple years now and after only a week of using Aiden, I had moved my kettle to a drawer from its home on my kitchen countertop. The most important thing for Aiden to do is make good coffee. On this matter, I have next to no notes. Future generations could improve in potentially finding a way to mechanically agitate the basket or adding a scale to the basket compartment, but both aren't very necessary and would likely add cost and complexity. As far as other quality of life complaints or areas for improvement, there are admittedly several… The water tank could be enlarged. It currently holds 1.5L, but with the largest batch brew being 1.5L, even an extra 500mL would add some breathing room and cut on refill time. The handle to remove the water tank is convenient but it cuts into the tank far too much, making it just a little more intentional to pour water in at the left or right of the handle to avoid splashing. Also, to remove the water tank you have to pull up and left around the screen to pull forward. This is a minor inconvenience as Aiden has my fridge to the left, making me have to rotate Aiden to easily grab the tank and return it without having to pull it forward through the gap between it and the fridge. Why is there no drip tray? Aiden features a drip finish timer but there's still going to be a few drips well after and removing the carafe to decant and having to wipe down the solid tray daily is annoying. I imagine it has something to do with verifying the batch carafe is under the basket to begin batch brews. A water sensor on the bottom/in a drip tray would be a welcomed expense as scheduling morning brews that might unrestrictedly flow across my counter is a fear of mine and bound to happen. Finally for complaints, the screen and software. As of right now, the app is very barebones. I knew to expect it and honestly doesn't bother me much other than missing the convenience of quickly making and adding profiles. My larger complaint is that while a round screen is quirky, it's far too slow and too small. I'm not sure if I think it should be a rectangular screen, but it doesn't help with screen area and I'm not sure what would be loss in terms of design or functionality. But the latency and what appears to be to be a slow refresh rate display. But maybe the processor is struggling to keep up with rendering the menus. Those are my complaints, and while wordy, in no way are any of them a deal breaker. This is still a five star product and Nick and Fellow product team should be extremely proud of this product. Especially at this price point. If you can afford this and debating purchasing, stop. It's for you. Who knows when Gen 2 will come, but I hope it addresses my thoughts. I wouldn't upgrade just for them, but it would be a near perfect coffee maker.

Great Machine for all Levels of Baristas

This coffee maker is awesome! I previously had an automatic “pour over” coffee maker from another company and although it was great, it only had the simple feature of an automated pour over. The Aiden is amazing in that it tells you exactly how much coffee to weigh and add based on the number of cups you want, it has different settings to brew different roasts perfectly, it sets a schedule to have it ready at the perfect time with guidance on how to brew. I am a pretty simple pour over home barista but these additional features with guidance have really kicked my brews to the next level with zero effort, just the click of the dial. You will not regret buying this, even if you already have another automatic pour over machine. Pair it with the Fellow Opus Grinder and Talley Scale and you are dialed.

Not the rockstar it was billed to be

This is OK - two annoying things: no way to tell how much coffee is left in the carafe. The carafe does not keep the coffee very hot for long .....it needs more insulation or a heat element Their suggested measurements of water and coffee dont make sense.

Great so far!

Sleek design. The coffee has tasted great; especially the 3 bonus roasts. I'm excited to see how the app gets finalized. I like the scheduling feature. To everyone knocking not making a full-blown pour over every morning, I used to work in coffee, and I love coffee. I love making pour-overs, when time allows. Now, I'm a night RN, and I like to wake up to coffee. Thanks to Fellow, for designing a product that makes great coffee when time is not always on my side.

Wonderful single cup coffee

So far it's great. Had to switch from americanos to drip because my cholesterol numbers were creeping up. Plus my prep time in the morning delayed my commute. The coffee this machine makes rivals my americanos and way less prep time. It makes a very good full body single cup which is all I wanted it to do. I started using it by prepping the coffee the night before. But I can taste the difference when I grind in the mornings so I'm back to morning prep but it's way less time.

Great coffee, almost great machine.

Overall very good machine. Makes great coffee, so long as you follow the correct workflow and satisfy conditions to account for shortcomings. These is no sensor to know if the carafe or mug is in place. Disabling a scheduled brew when there is no vessel detected would be useful. The coffee maker will continue to drip coffee after the brew is complete. I keep a paper towel under my mug/carafe for this purpose. There are software frustrations as well. The brew quantities in the app are not the same as in the display. I would like to be able pause a scheduled brew. Push notifications for running out of water mid brew would save a ruined cup. These are all issues that can be resolved with some diligence. The primary value proposition for me was unattended scheduled brews. The Aiden falls short on this metric, as I do need make sure the aforementioned conditions are satisfied.

Really Good, Though Not Perfect

I've had the Aiden for almost two weeks, so I am now familiar enough with it to write a review. Let me preface this with I'm pretty fussy about my coffee. I roast my own beans just to the start of the second crack, so it's not a light roast, but not so dark that oil appears on the beans. I have a particular pour over method that works for me. My goal was to replicate the same cup of coffee using the Aiden. Short answer: it's a success. 1. By creating my own profile and using a slightly coarser grind, I get a very good cup of coffee. That's the most important thing. Specifically, it's great being able to set the temperature, the bloom time, and the number of pulses and intervals between them. 2. The Aiden uses an adjustable ratio of coffee to water to calculate the amount of coffee to add depending on the number of cups you want, so you don't have to recalculate if you change the number of cups. That's pretty helpful. 3. The carafe is great. It keeps my coffee hot without using a heating element. 4. The machine looks good and actually frees up counter space by replacing my pour-over set up and kettle with one appliance. 5. I like the water reservoir on the side. It's easy to access and fill at the sink. Also, being on the side, it's easier to see when it needs to be refilled. So I do recommend this machine - it does what it says and does it well. HOWEVER, it's not perfect: 1. The lack of features in the app are well documented and make it useless right now, so I won't belabor that. 2. There is a problem with the custom profile I created. I specified 4 pulses in batch mode. It worked initially, but the second time I used the profile, it had reset the number of pulses to 1. I now have to check it each time and reset it to 4. Apparently Fellow is aware of the issue (I hope) and will be fixing it (I hope). 3. The lowest ratio of coffee to water that I was able to set was 1:14. I like it a bit stronger, so I have to slightly increase the recommended amount of coffee. 3. The single brew mode (which uses a cone filter) maxes out at 3 "cups" which is really about 1 ½ good sized cups. With more than 3 "cups" you have to use the batch flat bottomed basket. I really prefer the cone filter holder and filters, so I wish Fellow would allow single brew mode to go up to 4 or 4 ½ "cups" (2 real cups). The problems are not insurmountable (and are hopefully temporary), so, if you're thinking of getting the Aiden, I say go for it.

Good but not great

I love the design of Aiden. I think that's my favorite part. It is very sleek. I also like that it doesn't take too much space. I think one thing that I don't like as much is the design of the digital interface and menu options. I wish that the brew schedule was simpler. Also, the temperature of the coffee does not feel as hot as I would like it.

Great machine and great coffee…

I received my Aiden in September and I haven't used any of my other machines since. Makes one of the best cups of coffee I've had in a while. The coffee that came with it were great even considering the fact that I don't really drink lighter roasts, but they were great with the brew profiles. I can't say enough about this machine and can't wait until the app is fully developed.
