The lid has a nice pop top making it easy to open without the need for a can opener or worse dangerous tools. The texture was firm but flaky. In comparison to other brands, the tuna held together when I pierced it with a fork and didn't fall apart because it's been sitting in juice for a long time on the shelves. I really enjoyed the taste, it wasn't overly fishy and had a great texture. The olive oil complimented the fishy without making the texture feel too fatty. The omega 3s and protein are a must in my household! It was approved by my two toddlers, myself, and the husband. My favorite way it to eat it straight outta the can or with some pickle relish and crackers. Makes for a quick easy lunch! The price is a little steep for my budget, but the quality and taste definitely reflect that price point. My current grocery stores do not carry it so I will have to order online, which I’m willing to do because of how delicious it is!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I very much enjoyed the Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in olive oil. It has a very aesthetic appearance, a nice healthy pink, sans a fishy smell. The olive oil it is in does not overpower the fish and the texture is very flaky. A great tuna to use for guests. I ended up using it in potato and cornish pickle salad, one that did not have a sauce that covers the tuna, as it looked very appetizing. The presentation was very pleasant and tasted great. My toddler actually started eating this tuna straight out of the can when I opened it- that says a lot! Despite the higher price, I would still select this tuna for dishes when it is the star. Rio Mare is hands down the best canned tuna I have ever tried. I mentioned to my Italian friend I was testing a tuna product and she knew exactly which one, and told me I was gonna love it. The texture was perfect, actual true larger pieces of tuna, and the color was pink like tuna. The taste was the best canned tuna I have ever had. It tasted like actual tuna fish, and did not have any metallic taste like other canned tunas I have eaten. The tuna label mentioned to eat it right out the can and they were not wrong. I never thought I would be one to eat tuna straight out the can, but it was so fresh and meaty tasting I loved it. I have eaten just about every other brand of tuna and this is by farm the best. I tried another brand and was very sad eating it because it did not live up to the same quality as Rio Mare. I am disappointed I can’t find this in local stores, I’m willing to buy it online, because it is that good. It is worth price and even a little more because the quality is just that exceptional.

In all honesty I did not have high expectations as I feel like most canned tuna is all about the same. Well not with this one!! I was pleasantly surprised at the great texture and flakiness this canned tuna had. The olive oil really kicked the flavor profile up tremendously. If I didn’t open the can myself I would have NEVER guessed it came out of a can. I enjoyed this tuna on crackers for many lunches. My 17 year old was even impressed with the texture of this tuna.
