I found the taste and texture to be slightly different from what I'm used to because it's packed in olive oil, not water. I found that I did not need to use as much mayo when making tuna salad because of this. I used it to make my usual tuna salad sandwich for lunch; however, next time I would like to use it to make tuna patties as I think it would be great for that when I have more time. It's definitely of a higher quality, which means it brings a higher price tag. It's nice for a treat once in a while, but I do not see myself buying it all the time.

Despite that, I will write an impartial review based on my own taste and preference. Taste - 3 stars There was nothing particularly standout with this brand, the tuna meat immersed in olive oil did make for a quite neutral flavor profile, but I honestly could not find this any more tasty than your off the shelf brand canned tuna, like Starkist or similar. Despite the olive oil, the meat was still relatively dry. Nothing to write home about, but also no complaints from a flavor standpoint. Value - 1 star It's much more expensive than other big box store options, so if you are going after purely the nutritional benefit of canned tuna and $/per oz. this is by far the costlier option.

I’m also more interested in quality over price when it comes to food. The Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil is very good tasting. I’d never seen this brand before in stores, but I’ll definitely be looking harder in the future. I love that it is so flavorful and smooth. The olive oil Coating really sets this apart. I also liked that opening it doesn’t fill the room with fish smell — it’s more of a muted smell, but that doesn’t take away from the flavor. I decided to mix my tuna with barbecue sauce and put it in a taco, and boy was it delicious. The texture is really smooth and easy to spread because of the olive oil. The taste and texture was excellent. Both the fish and the oil olive proved to be of excellent quality. It had a very fresh taste. The texture was not as mushy as other comparable tunas, making it feel as I was eating fresh fish. I prepared it by making a sandwich with Hawaiian rolls. It paired well together and made it a fast, easy, and tasty lunch. I would definitely recommend this to others and I would buy it myself again over other brands. The quality for the price is excellent.

The olive oil makes the tuna so creamy and buttery. It was quite delicious by itself on a cracker. I also added it to a salad with some lemon and it made my salad more satisfying. It doesn’t have the canned tuna after taste some other brands have. It almost tastes like it’s fresh tuna from the sea. I really enjoyed it as a quick snack on the go with some crackers.
