The texture was pretty mushy and broken up—honestly reminiscent of standard canned tuna—rather than the solid chunks I was hoping for. While the flavor was perfectly fine and lacked any "fishy" odor or over-salting, the olive oil was so light and neutral it almost felt like a generic vegetable oil. I tried it plain on toasted sourdough, but the lack of character made for a pretty forgettable meal. I’ll finish what’s in the pantry, but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again. I love that when I open the tin, I actually see solid, pink fillets that look like real fish rather than a salty mush. I usually don't purchase any type of fish in oil (we do buy the type in water or tomato sauce) since it can be a little heavy for the recipes I make. This was really the perfect size can for making a snack, usually we mix a little mayo and spices and put it with veggies or crackers. We tried it as well with pasta; both ways we used the oil from the can and made the snack really light and filling. We're always trying new recipes for quick protein options in our house so we'll be looking for these in the grocery store we frequent. They were such a hit in our house, I would definitely get larger cans if they offered both sizes!

I’m also more interested in quality over price when it comes to food. The Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil is very good tasting. I’d never seen this brand before in stores, but I’ll definitely be looking harder in the future. I love that it is so flavorful and smooth. The olive oil Coating really sets this apart. I also liked that opening it doesn’t fill the room with fish smell — it’s more of a muted smell, but that doesn’t take away from the flavor. I decided to mix my tuna with barbecue sauce and put it in a taco, and boy was it delicious. The texture is really smooth and easy to spread because of the olive oil. The price seems reasonable to me based on the taste of this. I’m grateful to have received this tuna in exchange for my honest review as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.

I’ve made tuna pasta, tuna salad and mainly just plain with a tad bit of salt and pepper as a quick snack (3 kids under 3). The olive oil makes it almost buttery, helps with flavor and you don’t have to use as much mayo making tuna salad. If you love tuna try rio tuna in olive oil and see what you think.

It had the right amount of olive oil added in, making it creamy while remaining flaky. I used it in a simple meal; mixed it in with rice and kewpie mayo and scooped it with seaweed. Simple but yummy and the tuna was able to shine through. Although I did enjoy the tuna, I'm not sure i would purchase in the future solely because of the price. I'm not a big enough fan of tuna to justify the price - the cans feel too small for that.
