Because it’s packed in olive oil instead of water, the tuna has a richer, thicker coating that makes it feel more substantial straight out of the can. I actually enjoyed it as-is without needing to mix in anything. The olive oil does bump up the calories compared to water‑packed tuna, which makes sense, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re used to the lighter nutritional profile of brands like Bumble Bee. The can itself is also slightly larger, so you get a bit more product. Overall, it’s a tasty, higher‑end alternative to standard grocery‑store tuna—especially if you like the smoother texture and fuller flavor that comes from olive oil packing. The olive oil makes the tuna so creamy and buttery. It was quite delicious by itself on a cracker. I also added it to a salad with some lemon and it made my salad more satisfying. It doesn’t have the canned tuna after taste some other brands have. It almost tastes like it’s fresh tuna from the sea. I really enjoyed it as a quick snack on the go with some crackers.

The olive oil it is in does not overpower the fish and the texture is very flaky. A great tuna to use for guests. I ended up using it in potato and cornish pickle salad, one that did not have a sauce that covers the tuna, as it looked very appetizing. The presentation was very pleasant and tasted great. My toddler actually started eating this tuna straight out of the can when I opened it- that says a lot! Despite the higher price, I would still select this tuna for dishes when it is the star. My son loves tuna and this made amazing tuna sandwiches. It comes in large chunks not tiny splinters like other tuna. The smell was mild compared to other tuna. The olive oil is so delicious and a great way to pack it. I love having this healthy, high protein shelf stable food available in our house. It is so handy for throwing on top of salads, pasta, or sandwiches. When it comes to fish, I prefer to buy high quality options given fishing and toxicity concerns and I would highly recommend Rio Mare. We will be buying it again!
