The difference in taste, texture and flavor is really superior to the brand of tuna I have been buying for years. Tuna is a go-to in my family's pantry. I work from home and need to keep things around that don't require a lot of preparation and can ward off hunger so I'm not snacking on junk all day long. I eat tuna for lunch about 3 times a week and have always purchased the same brand. The brand I usually purchase tasted fine, and I was happy with it mostly because of the convenience of eating it straight out of the pouches it is sold in. I was given the Rio Mare tuna to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I didn't think there would be that big of a difference from the brand I normally purchase but the difference is incredible. I will start with the cons: It is more expensive than the tuna I normally purchase but the quality of this product more than makes up for the difference in price. I also assumed it wasn't as convenient to prepare because it is packaged in cans and not the pouches I have been used to purchasing. Although it is packaged in cans, I think the product's firmness is aided by the packaging and therefore isn't a drawback. This tuna can still be easily opened with the pull top and doesn't need to be drained so it is still just as convenient as the pouches. Now for the Pros: The taste is excellent, and the flavor of the tuna was so much better than the other brands on the market. I first tried some straight from the can and it was excellent. I put the rest on a plate, mixed in some capers and ate that with crackers for lunch. It was the perfect portion. I also flaked it with a fork and squeezed some lemon juice over it and it was delicious. This is such a quick meal or snack that anyone can make with no preparation. It makes it so easy to not make excuses when choosing what to eat. You can get a meal with all this protein as easily as you could opening a bag of chips. It is so convenient. I was just really impressed with how much better it tasted than what I am used to. While normally, cost is one of my main influences when making purchases, the quality of this product is completely worth paying a little extra. This product was given to me in exchange for my honest review, but I have already purchased it on my own since testing it. Overall, I'm sure anyone trying this product would prefer it to other brands they have tried but even for someone who didn't like tuna in the past that has only tasted the more commonly known brands would probably like this because the difference is really remarkable.

The price is much higher than that of competitors (no surprise there), but if you consider what it might cost to get a restaurant-quality portion of tuna, this product really does seem comparable, so in that regard, it's actually more affordable!

It has a firmer, thicker texture than other canned tunas. I made a mediterranean tuna salad. It was very easy to make and tasted delicious. It was healthy and satisfying with great flavor. It was quick enough to do on a busy week night. This is a budget friendly option to add into your meal rotation. The only thing I would change is fewer calories and more protein like some of the other canned tuna products I have had before. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently had a chance to try the Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil through the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I eat canned tuna occasionally for lunches, but it's usually kind that needs to be drained which I find a little gross and annoying. The Rio tuna is used right from the can - so easy! I used the tuna in my two favorite ways - in a salad and a wrap. I try to stay low carb so the salad had mixed greens, kale, chickpeas, tomatoes, cucumber, sunflower seeds and a balsamic dressing. It was delicious. The wrap had greens, some Greek yogurt and the tuna. I like the texture of the tuna and especially that it isn't too dry. Will definitely look for it in the store, and the price seems very reasonable for this quality of tuna!

Very versatile - can be used in recipes but I really enjoyed it on its own. Definitely worth paying little extra.
