Rio Mare Tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this canned tuna product. I've tried many canned tunas, but Rio Mare stands out for its quality and taste. The tuna is packed in real olive oil (not vegetable oil), which gives it a rich, smooth texture and enhances the natural flavor. You can actually see the solid chunks — no mushy bits or flakes like cheaper brands. It tastes clean and fresh, not fishy or overly salty. I usually drain a little of the oil and use it in salads, sandwiches, or over pasta. It's perfect for Mediterranean-style dishes. The small cans are super convenient for quick meals, and the portion size is just right. Definitely a pantry staple for me. It's more expensive than regular supermarket tuna, but the quality is absolutely worth it.
Delightful and Delicious
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is high quality tuna and it tastes like it! I usually purchase tuna in water but thought I'd give olive oil a try and I gotta say it's terrific. Instead of slathering mayo and mixing celery with it, I chose to eat it straight out of the can. Yum! I went for the three pack because it's the perfect size for this delicacy. Goes great with crackers and white wine.
Great tasting tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this canned tuna product. I tried this tuna and the texture was so smooth. Maybe it's just me but some other tuna brands feel like they almost have a gritty taste to them or they are too fishy. This tuna was not like that at all. For being canned it tasted very fresh. I like how it was in oil as well. It's not too much oil where it tastes and feels greasy but just enough to make sure the tuna was not on the drier side. I made the usual tuna and mayo with Chopped onions and seasonings and made a sandwich with it. So delicious. Price point seems a little much for tuna, but if you're looking for high quality tuna with good flavor then I can justify paying for quality, especially when it comes to tuna. Once you have this brand you won't go back to any other brand.
Expensive But DELICIOUS W/O Adding Anything To It!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don' normally like tuna because the other brands usually taste either too mushy or too dry and bland, etc. but this tuna was so delicious right out of the can without having to add anything to it! I did not need to add any mayo because it was already moist from the oil and I did not have to add any tuna salad ingredients like: celery, pickles, grapes, dried cranberries, dill weed, etc. because it tasted flavorful all on its own! This saved me time from having to chop and add and mix all of those things! It saved me dishes from not having to wash a knife, cutting board and bowl from having to chop and mix those things! It also saved me money from having to buy all of those extra things to mix with them to have to mask and cover up or distract or add other textures or flavors to make it more edible or palatable! However, it was too difficult to access and get out of the can though; there wasn' much space for my large round cracker(s) to dip into the tiny can to scoop it out like a spoon! Also, it was packed so firmly and tightly (or the texture of the tuna was too tough and firm) for my cracker to scoop out without breaking every single cracker with my every attempt! I feel like it was false advertising that on their package it states that it is so tender they you could cut this tuna with a breadstick! This was not my experience at all since all of my crackers broke which was frustrating because then there wasn' enough surface area on my crackers to place the chunks of tuna and it made a mess of crumbs from the breaking as well! It made it messier for my fingers to have to pick up or scoop with my fingers and because the smaller broken crackers caused less surface area so the oil had no where to go but drip down and touch my fingers which made my fingers an oily mess! (It’s a good idea to have napkins handy when eating these)! I was shocked & disappointed that there was no nutritional facts nor ingredients listed on the cans which was upsetting (and I think illegal?) because I wanted to refer to that info in writing my review and could not! I had to hunt down the particle board package to look up the info. It looks like it states that it is imported from Italy so maybe their laws about informing consumers of the ingredients and nutritional facts on the cans is different and more lenient. However, if imported here, I would think that they would still need to comply with our laws to be sold here! Therefore, I am puzzled by that and not happy about that. I like that there are only 3 ingredients and all natural (only tuna, olive oil and salt) and no chemicals and preservatives and junk. I like that they mention that they use sustainable fishing methods. I don' know if that is true or not, because I watched a documentary once that showed that a lot of “sustainable” companies actually were in fact not at all, but if they actually are sustainable then I think that is really cool. There is a part of me that thinks the small can size is fitting for a small snack or lunch at work or school, etc. but the other part of me and most of me actually thinks this can is WAY TOO SMALL especially for the EXORBITANTLY EXPENSIVE price which is approximately 3 times /triple the price of other cans of tuna but WAY SMALLER of a portion than other cans of tuna! (You pay MORE and for LESS product)! However, this is one of the MOST DELICIOUS things or tuna I’ve eaten, so maybe that’s why it costs more (“you get what you pay for”) because maybe it’s like a more gourmet version, species variety or body section of tuna or more of a gourmet way of cutting/chopping or processing it? Or maybe the other tunas are cheaper because they are packed with water which is cheaper? And maybe this is more expensive because it is packed with olive oil which is more expensive than water? Or maybe it costs more because of importing fees and shipping costs from another country? I don' know. I am ignorant when it comes to tuna but if you are looking for your next comfort food this might be it for you because I think it has become my new comfort food! I also like the convenience of how it might be a very quick and easy meal or snack or appetizer with this tuna on crackers! This would also be ideal for hot summer nights when it is too hot to cook but where you could still get some protein without heating up your house from cooking meat! You’d also be getting your bread group in with the crackers! This might also be ideal for a charcuterie board for guests for hospitality and might also be useful for those who are chronically ill and/are too overwhelmed and/or too busy to cook or wash dishes afterwards. I used a paper plate but am worried if I had used cheap plastic silverware to scoop out the tuna that it also might have broken like my crackers! If I might have to use a sturdier metal silverware to pry the firm tuna out, I would not be happy about that because that would mean more dishes for me to wash! In conclusion, there are many pros and cons to this product and thus, would depend on your priorities whether you would like this product or not and whether it would be a good fit for you or not.
Yum
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, even before opening I moved the pull tab on the top. It makes it so much easier for on the go when I don't have a can opener with me. Upon opening there is minimal oil so you don't have to drain it much, if at all. The smell is not strong and fishy, there are no dark spots or bones, and the taste is great! Thank you so much to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for sending me this tuna to try!
Very nice clean tuna, I will buy again and again!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As I said, it’s really clean and high quality tuna in olive oil. I can' compare with other brands I tried. I will buy again and again in the future. It’s really clean and I love the taste that it’s not too fishy or oily.
Love this Tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wasn't sure if I would like this tuna as it is packed in Olive Oil. I usually by Tuna packed in water but I loved this brand and was able to strain most of the oil out. It tasted great and I used less mayo to mix in for a sandwich. Good quality product and very flavorful.
Nothing Fishy About this highly recommended
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm impressed. I'm very picky about tuna after some bad experiences, and I usually avoid buying it from major stores since I'm lucky enough to get it locally from the coast. That being said, this tuna compared very favorably with the local product. It was tasty straight out of the can, and the portion size was perfect for one—I prefer not to have leftovers, so that was a big plus. I tried the tuna three ways: plain, with mayonnaise, and with mayonnaise plus relish. All three were delicious, but my favorite was simply eating it right from the can—no draining needed. I've got one left, which I'm saving for a tuna melt, and I'm really looking forward to it. I also appreciate that it's wild-caught and sustainable—those are important factors for me, along with taste and portion size. The texture was meaty and high quality, without the fishy smell you sometimes get. It looked and tasted similar to the hook-and-line caught local tuna I usually buy. I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, but I'll definitely be buying it again. The price is very reasonable for the quality. Since I'm often on the go, these portioned cans will also be a great addition to my hiking and camping kits. Highly recommended
Perfect single servings
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love these little single serving containers. They are just right for a small sandwich or snack (12 g of protein). The tuna seemed high quality and with good texture and flavor. I wish they had an option for tuna packed in water.
Not worth the price
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Eh, not sure what the big fuss is about. It tastes just like regular old tuna (and a little salty at that) for 4x the price. I did appreciate the texture of the and size of the meatier chunks of tuna however!
