It uses olive oil as the brine which gives it a very rich tasting flavor. It's a solid piece of tuna so it's not just gonna crumble unless you crumble it yourself. The quality of the fish is just delicious, it's definitely a good piece of fish. I used it to make a tuna salad and it was just delicious. I was gifted this tuna as part of the stellar panel.

I've been a regular Tuna eater since probably the third grade and while I notice differences.. tuna is tuna. But Rio Mare is a game changer. It was well packaged, eye catching and somewhat nostalgic looking. I was intrigued. When I opened it I was expecting the stereotypical watery tuna can and prepping myself mentally for that moment when I get that little bit of tuna juice on my finger that leaves an annoying smell for the remainder of the day. But to my surprise, that wasn't the case. It was moist but not over saturated. It had the consistency of salmon and a perfectly salted flavor with no funny aftertaste. I have since requested that she buy more so that I can explore other ways to enjoy it. But right out of the can was a satisfying, quick, and healthy snack. The flavor was fresh and the olive oil made a hug difference in the flavor profile. The texture was pleasant and made it delightful to eat. I ate this tuna plain on a cracker. I wanted to get a real feel for the texture and taste as-is, and was very impressed. It would for sure be delicious used in a recipe with other ingredients, but it really does shine on its own and doesn't require anything else to taste good. This tuna is worth the price. While it may cost more than some cheaper brands, the taste is significantly better. You are getting quality. What stood out the most to me was how delicious it was just on its own.

The taste and texture of this canned tuna is much higher quality than the most common brands of tuna found at the grocery store. I added this tuna to a pasta and caper dish, and it turned out wonderful. The chunks of tuna lended themselves to the recipe beautifully, I wasn't left disappointed by a can full of shreds. While this can is pricier than a typical can of tuna the quality and taste are elevated too.

The packaging is aesthetically pleasing while also being informative, and I appreciated the simple pull-tab top which made lunchtime easy. The tuna itself is in a small amount of olive oil rather than water, which was delicious rather than feeling overly oily. I also liked that I didn't have to drain the tin. The tuna itself is solid, rather than chunked or flaked, which added to the presentation in the tin as a high-quality product. The tuna was tender and easily flaked with a fork, but also stood up to being eaten alone. Upon a first taste, you can immediately tell the difference between this tuna and other "in water" brands. It has a more pronounced tuna flavor without being overly fishy, and the texture is excellent. I did not encounter any bones in the tin. We brought it as a snack on our family vacation with a 1 and 3 year old. We kept it simple with mayo, salt and pepper and served with crackers. Everyone was happy! We've since stocked up on a few more cans to have on hand for lunches or snacking.

What makes them different from your run of the mill canned tuna is they use high-quality fish that is marinated in olive oil for an extended amount of time. The Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil was not very dense, with a texture that almost melts in your mouth. The little bit of sea salt and the olive oil complement the tuna really well. I do think there could be more oil in the can, but the tuna was not dry at all. I enjoyed a can for lunch with a quinoa-rice blend. It was great. We tried the tuna on its own and also in a tuna salad with crackers, and it was great both ways. The packaging is eye catching and sleek but the light pink color reminded me more of salmon than of tuna so it was confusing at a glance. I would highly recommend this product but the price is a bit high for a single can; if I could buy at a discounted bulk rate I would certainly do so. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love tuna and eat it on the regular so was very excited to give this new Wild Tuna in Olive Oil by Rio Mare. However, I really could not get on board with this canned tuna as the olive oil was too much and it was just too oily for my liking. I also thought it was quite pricey for what you get and the quality of the tuna. It is also not the easiest to find in stores near me so I think I will be sticking to my normal Starkist.
