The lid has a nice pop top making it easy to open without the need for a can opener or worse dangerous tools. The texture was firm but flaky. In comparison to other brands, the tuna held together when I pierced it with a fork and didn't fall apart because it's been sitting in juice for a long time on the shelves. I really enjoyed the taste, it wasn't overly fishy and had a great texture. The olive oil complimented the fishy without making the texture feel too fatty. The texture and consistency was great and not too much liquid, but enough to keep it moist. The flavor was great. I also thought the packaging was really nice and pleasant to the eye.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I think of canned tuna, I think of the canned tuna of the 90s, mixing it with a ton of mayo, etc. Rio Mare is different - the can itself makes me feel like I'm about to make lunch at my Italian villa. It's in oil, so I didn't need to drain or any mayo to make it edible. The texture is softer and flakier than other brands, which I think makes it more enjoyable to eat. I mixed in some mustard and relish as well as a little salt and pepper. I think it would be good just with salt and pepper if you're a purist. I ate it with crackers, I'm sure it would be just as good, if not better a million other ways. It's spendy for a can of tuna, but given the price of groceries these days I do think if you're a tuna lover that it's worth the cost. Plus I liked that you don't have to add much to it to make it a meal. I received the can as a part of the Stellar Produict Testing Panel, but I will definitely purchase it again!

It's hard to describe the taste specifically, but it's not "too fishy." The tuna is packed very densely in the can, but breaks apart well. I think this is a good middle-ground of quality vs. price, there are some high end tuna products that may be better, but will also cost you a lot more. The flavor was so delicious and not fishy at all. The olive oil helps keep the fish from drying out so it has a pleasantly rich texture. I used this tuna to make Kimchi Tuna Salad. I've made this recipe several times with other tuna but this turned out the best. This tuna doesn't have a fishy flavor so the flavor of the other ingredients can really come forward. I will be looking for this tuna at my grocery store. I think the quality of the tuna is well worth the price. As a pescatarian I eat tuna several times as week as my source of protein. This tuna makes any recipe rich, hearty and delicious. It takes your meal to the next level. I have been craving it ever since I tried it!

My son loves tuna and this made amazing tuna sandwiches. It comes in large chunks not tiny splinters like other tuna. The smell was mild compared to other tuna. The olive oil is so delicious and a great way to pack it. I love having this healthy, high protein shelf stable food available in our house. It is so handy for throwing on top of salads, pasta, or sandwiches. When it comes to fish, I prefer to buy high quality options given fishing and toxicity concerns and I would highly recommend Rio Mare. We will be buying it again!

What I loved most was the basic, clean ingredients. It's great that this brand uses olive oil as opposed to seed oils. I would not purchase a tuna with seed oils so I will definitely be buying this brand in the future. I started out wanting to make onigiri with this Rio Mare tuna but once I opened the can I just started eating the tuna with a fork! I did eventually make a few onigiri but I also would have been happy just eating it straight from the can!! It is so delicious and satisfying with a light clean taste of pure yellowfin tuna with a little bit of olive oil, that you don't have to drain. The tuna has no fishy smells or aftertaste but has a very meaty texture and just tastes amazing. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this canned tuna product.

The omega 3s and protein are a must in my household! It was approved by my two toddlers, myself, and the husband. My favorite way it to eat it straight outta the can or with some pickle relish and crackers. Makes for a quick easy lunch! The price is a little steep for my budget, but the quality and taste definitely reflect that price point. My current grocery stores do not carry it so I will have to order online, which I'm willing to do because of how delicious it is!!
