My son loves tuna and this made amazing tuna sandwiches. It comes in large chunks not tiny splinters like other tuna. The smell was mild compared to other tuna. The olive oil is so delicious and a great way to pack it. I love having this healthy, high protein shelf stable food available in our house. It is so handy for throwing on top of salads, pasta, or sandwiches. When it comes to fish, I prefer to buy high quality options given fishing and toxicity concerns and I would highly recommend Rio Mare. We will be buying it again!

It uses olive oil as the brine which gives it a very rich tasting flavor. It's a solid piece of tuna so it's not just gonna crumble unless you crumble it yourself. The quality of the fish is just delicious, it's definitely a good piece of fish. I used it to make a tuna salad and it was just delicious. I was gifted this tuna as part of the stellar panel.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this canned tuna product from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. It was so delicious! I really love yellowfin tuna and had bought it for years in various brands packed in water so this was the first time I tried it in oil. I purchased a couple other brands of yellowfin tuna in oil for a direct comparison. While I consider yellowfin the mildest canned tuna I've ever had, the taste of this tuna is so much milder and even more delicious. The other brands of yellowfin in oil were fishier at varying levels, but all 3 cans of this tuna were a delight to eat straight from the can to the last bite. Part of it was how delicate and flaky it is and part of it was the high quality extra virgin olive oil. Not every brand uses high quality tasty oil for packing so sometimes you have to drain, but not the Rio. It was perfect eaten still in the oil, and even has just the right amount. Generally, even if the oil is mild and tasty, there's too much so you have to drain a little off anyway but this was just right. The only downside I encountered was that this fish was a bit salty for me. I don't know for certain, but I assume most of my canned fish consumption is non salted because this was definitely saltier than I'm used to. I used some squeezes of fresh lemon juice so the acidity balanced the salty flavor. To be honest, I generally eat canned mackerel these days more than tuna and I always squeeze fresh lemon to balance the olive oil anyway. I also ate this fish with some castelvetrano olives but because it was so good in flavor on its own, the olives almost detracted when I normally adore olives with my fish in oil and lemon. The ongoing downside for this fish would be its cost. I cannot afford to buy this fish other than a special treat. The cans are TINY, like not even an individual meal size but a snack size for one person. Smaller than usual. And add to that the double dose price tag, it's just out of reach to justify consumption of it when times are this tight. On a trip when I want carry-along quick protein snacks to treat myself, I'd buy this every time! But with 3 cans equalling less oz than 2 standard cans of yellowfin tuna, I won't be buying again for awhile. Bottom line, this is hands down the best tuna - even best yellowfin tuna - I've ever had. This kind of consistency in flavor and texture can-to-can is a winner.

I have to say, I was pretty happy with it. The texture is great, it's nice and firm, not mushy at all. It flakes apart easily with a fork, which is exactly what you want. The best part is the flavor. It tastes clean, like tuna should, without any strong or fishy aftertaste. It didn't overpower the other ingredients in my salad. I would even eat this straight out of the can as a high protein snack. It's just a simple, good-quality canned tuna. I'd definitely buy this brand again.

I love the solid chunks of tuna bathed in the richness of the olive oil to make the perfect protein boost on its own, in a salad, in a sandwich, or on crackers. The olive oil also helped whatever seasonings you add to it adhere better to each piece of tuna. I definitely recommend this product and will buy it again in the future.
