I genuinely enjoyed this tuna and felt that the taste and texture was everything you’d want it to be. It was meaty and fresh, without the typical seafood smell. I was able to eat it straight from the can with no issues, but I also made it into a bomb tuna salad. Even my picky husband thought it was great! I love that it was packaged in olive oil to keep it healthier for those who are seeking to eliminate extra additives and inflammatory oils. We really liked that it was in oil as it saved a step in our typical tuna recipes. My little ones also enjoyed it straight out of the can though and I would have let them but I wanted to stretch the meal and made it into a salad with chickpeas. It would taste great alone, with crackers, in a salad or sandwich. The flavor was just perfect and not overwhelming as some tuna cans are. The scent was also calming, some tunas are very strong scented this was not. I received this canned tuna product from the Stellar Product Testing Panel and I’m glad that I did. I would recommend buying this tuna and would buy it again. Had I purchased the tuna the price point I felt was justified for the amount of protein and deliciousness we received. W e would have happily purchased this tuna.

The olive oil packed fillets had a lot more flavor than other brands that use water, and I loved having the added flavor when making a super simple tuna salad, or adding straight to a leafy salad. My son loves tuna and this made amazing tuna sandwiches. It comes in large chunks not tiny splinters like other tuna. The smell was mild compared to other tuna. The olive oil is so delicious and a great way to pack it. I love having this healthy, high protein shelf stable food available in our house. It is so handy for throwing on top of salads, pasta, or sandwiches. When it comes to fish, I prefer to buy high quality options given fishing and toxicity concerns and I would highly recommend Rio Mare. We will be buying it again!

I’ve had plenty of other big box brand tunas and ones from popular companies as well, I feel like they have a pretty common consistency. I have also had fresh tuna filets straight out of the ocean, and that is very different from what you discover in these tiny little round cans. The Rio Mare tuna reminds me more of what you catch in the ocean! Not what I typically get when I grab a can of cheap tuna at the grocery store. One key aspect is that it is in olive oil, which is significantly better for the tuna than when it sits in water inside of a sealed can—it was brighter and looked less murky gray like others. The tuna itself had a light taste to it and it mixed well with mayonnaise and crackers and everything that I can think of putting with it. I have always felt like canned fish feels a bit dull, but this one had a strong tuna flavor along with being everything I would ask for and more in a can of tuna. While I receive this as an opportunity to product test this, it is something I would buy from the store—no question. This is easily one of the best canned tuna I’ve ever had and is well worth grabbing!
