I absolutely love this brand of Blu-ray players. I've had great experiences and reliability with the brand. Overall this is a quality item. Just an FYI, pay close attention to the description of this model. I made the mistake of not doing so and realized this model doesn't have built in wifi upon arrival, it's a hardline ethernet port connection.

This is a great compact player which was needed to pair with an older Sony TV. The remote for the TV was wearing out but this one easily replaced it. One remote now control 2 devices. Great picture quality. An outstanding buy.

Works as it should and have no complaints.

If you want to play an old school DVD only, ease of use, etc it would be fine for the money. If you wanted to plug in a hard drive, thumb drive intothe USB port, it fails. So for me , I returnedi t and bought the 4K Sony BluRay 700/u. Works great with a hard drive into the USB connection, but still high quality thumb drives had problems.

I have an internet supplied by Spectrum and it works well with my other wired and wireless devices but I can not get it to connect to my Blu-ray Disc. I have a LAN cable (CAT 5e) connected from the Spectrum box to the Blu-ray box. But it won't let me get a connection to the internet and consequently I can't use the futures that require a network connection.

This is the third BDPS1700 machine I've set up. I hope it works. The first two did not. My wife is bringing a new BluRay disc home and I'll try it and see if I have to make a 4th call. I hope I don't. When this machine functions properly, it's awesome. Unfortunately, the last two have not continued to work as designed and I've had to return them for a free exchange. Sony has been awesome. The machine has not been.

I received the BDP-S1700 as an Anniversary Gift from work. I've used it 3 times and on the 3rd time I get a msg that states "[Eject] key is currently unavailable. To enable, cancel Child Lock Mode. I went on the Sony website and tried the fix that they have with no luck. I've recently tried to do a system software update hoping that would fix the problem but the internet download fails as well as trying to use the USB port to update. I've seen online that this is a common problem with this model. If it worked I think it'd be a great product as I like what it had to offer however having problems with only using it 3 times & seeing so many posts of other people having the same problem if frustrating. I'm writing this in case anyone is thinking of purchasing the product and is doing their research.

My husband purchased this product only six days ago and managed to watch one movie. After purchasing another 4 brand new movies we find the player has stopped working completely, failing to recognize even the BD we had originally watched. After updating the firmware, pouring through the customer support pages (243 posts) in total, we realize we purchased poor workmanship at best. My suggestion is steer clear of this product.
