Great generator, full of extra features

I have looked at several generators and chose the Westinghouse wgen12000df because of the features and excellent reviews. When it arrived at my home I followed the startup instructions and it started right up and has run perfectly since. This is a great generator!

Great generator, needs a few minor tweaks

The WG12000DF generator is powerful. It does what it says it can do. It powers up everything in my house. I can run one A/C unit at a time with it. It's easy to set up and run once its outside the box it came in. I just followed the quick start up guide. It's easy to move around with the included handlebars. The no run-flat tires are sturdy and strong enough to hold the heavy side of the generator. I especially like the remote start feature. However, I would have tweaked a few minor areas that I saw could've been improved. I would've liked to see the 50 amp outlet moved away from the wheel area. I had a difficult time connecting my 50 amp cord to that outlet. The generator is noisy, and some kind of sound muffler would have been helpful to have on it. The oil dipstick could have had a min and max label put on it. An oil indicator level on the outside (similar to the gasoline indicator level) would also have been good to have. Exposed outside metal surfaces can get hot to the touch. An extra layer of heat resistant foam should've been placed on those areas as an extra layer of safety. Other than these minor issues, the generator is great!

Best bang for the buck.

I did a lot of research on my needs to power my home in an emergency.I determined the 14500 watt model was just what I needed. The packaging was great and did its job, the build quality of the wgen line is top notch.Ive already owned a wgen 9500df and used it throught 2 hurricans in Florida.I wanted a little more power so I upgraded to the wgen14500df.I would highly recommend Westinghouse Generators.Alot of the cheaper models from other manufacturers use aluminum windings instead of copper. You get what you pay for.

Fuel Selector Switch Mislabeled on WGEN12000DF

Great generator! Started right up on propane once I realized the fuel selector switch is mislabeled on the generator. The switch, actually, is up for gasoline and down for propane, as per the manual. See attached photo differences between generator and manual.

Power and Versatility in one

Overall, I’m very impressed with this Westinghouse generator in terms of both the amount of power it provides, expansion capabilities, quality construction, and versatility of use. I bought this generator to be primarily used for home power in case of emergency. With up to 12,500 watts of surge power and 9500 watts running power with gas, it can handle pretty much my entire house. I LOVE the dual fuel options, as I usually have plenty of propane I can use as well. Even though the surge and running wattage is a bit lower when using propane, I still have plenty of juice to power the necessary items when the grid goes down. Esthetically, the generator is very handsome, with neat lines and logical functionality. I will be using the 30 amp/240 volt plug with a house transfer switch for now, but having a 50 amp/240 volt plug allows me to upgrade in the future. Before I bought this generator, I did quite a bit of research. This generator, the Wes9500DFc is by far the best for the money. I would highly recommend this generator if you’re looking for one of the best that combines awesome looks with high performance. POWER…VERSATILITY…QUALTY…you get it plus more with this Westinghouse 9500 DFc generator.

Hidden disappointments

Carbon monoxide sensor renders the unit almost unusable. Any running engine will emit carbon monoxide. As soon as the sensor recognizes any amount within inches of the unit, your out of business. Mandatory disablement. Totally absurd that the fuel system cannot be drained. I would really like to know why Westinghouse would intentionally ignore such an important factor. The unit was designed to accept a convenient trickle charge, but for some reason, there is no explanation of how to use it. The overall unit has a lot of fantastic engineering design, but lacks on a few of the obvious.

Unboxing and Initial Test

Everything looks good out of the box. Wheels went on easy (thanks to the stand it ships on) and the delivery guys waited to help me unload it off the stand. If I didn't have help getting it off the shipping stand, it would have been very difficult. Moving the generator around is surprisingly easy given its size and weight. Opened oil drain valve and washer. There was at least a cup of oil that came out. I don't like the design of the drain plug here as it basically spills onto the bracket and you're supposed to place a pan under the feet to catch the oil (with feet inside pan getting oily). Probably best to use a valve with drain hose in place of drain plug. Filling with oil is a little awkward, be sure to pour slowly as recommended in manual. Dipstick is a little awkward, but not terrible. Initially I tried to start with propane but it was idling very rough. Ran it on gas for about an hour. Tried propane again and it started without an issue. I will cold start on propane next time to make sure there’s not an issue. The manual displays the propane hose with an additional regulator, but does not have one on the hose included with the generator. The regulator is on the generator already and the manual is likely incorrect. The Low/Smart Idle setting dropped the voltage to 190 and the frequency to 40 hz. Portability and noise level are good given the size and output. Very maneuverable on hard surface. Grass or soft surfaces may prove more difficult. I will continue to update this review as I use it more.

Easy to use

I bought this a month ago and have only tried it out once. It started on the second try and I only had to push the button once. It's not the quietest generator but it is not too loud. It's very easy to use and set up. I hope I won't need it next winter but I should be set when I do.

Love it. Has everything I wanted

I just received my generator. I use it for work. Had a smaller on that was getting a little old. Always wanted a dual fuel but was scared to pull the trigger. Both fuels seem to be working just fine. It's a hoss. The guy asked me that delivered it how was i going to get it off the truck. I said im not

Great Generator

I bought this to power my 2,200 sq ft home. My home is totally electric and it powers everything in my home. It also powers my central a/c unit which is an a/c, heat pump combination. I tested this generator by turning on every single light, in my home and I also started my washer and dryer along with my electric stove including the oven, and even my microwave, and air fryer. I went to extreme by running EVERYTHING in my home at the same time which will likely never happen in daily living. I wanted to be certain this generator would handle the load in a power outage and it surpassed my expectations. Great generator.
