- 5 out of 5 stars review2/24/2022This is one of the coolest ideas to come along in a long time. We use nearly a full tub of ice daily and love the soft chewy ice. We just wish we had bought it sooner. Haven't needed to go to Sonic since we bought it. We nearly bought the previous model, but we're much happier with the updated Opal 2.0 model.

However, I could only make about one glass of ice before it would make a horrible grinding screeching noise that was audible through the whole house and required me to shut it off and let the whole thing sit for a while. So, that was pretty annoying and underwhelming.

It is super cute, produces alo of ice very quickly. The bin holds quite a bit of ice and it doesn't melt as quickly as he cheaper ice makers I have just used. It is quiet and you rarely hear it making ice. The side tank and convenient too, you don't have to keep removng the ice storage to pour water into it! I love the side tank. If you are on the fence about getting the side tank, do it you will not be disappointed. Wished I would not have wasted my money on the cheap version of nugget ice makers, the money I spent on those I should have just bought this one the first time around.

It is a little louder than I would have liked but it is tolerable. It is a little heavier than I expected which makes it harder to clean, I don’t have a place near the sink.

It was well packed. Between the instructions and the pictures, we were able to get it up and running. A few slight problems but not too hard to do. I love the ice. It is just like Sonic Ice. It keeps up with our needs.

The machine is very appealing with the way that it has been designed and the light is very helpful when we use it in the later hours of the day! The ice is perfect for chewing and for chilling drinks! We add the ice to our water bottles and it lasts for many hours. It makes ice quickly and quietly! We really like the machine and all of its abilities! Its size allows it to fit well in our kitchen and we have a large family and it is able to keep up with our use! GE did a wonderful job producing the machine!

We LOVE the ice our machine makes and we like the machine a lot. We use it ALL THE TIME. We learned that It is very important to descale the machine regularly using an ice machine descaler. Ours started squealing which was because there was mineral deposit in the machine. If descaled and cleaned regularly (every 1 to 6 months depending on the mineral content of your water) it works fine. It is very easy to do. Since ours is one of the first (not the 2.0) it does not have a side water tank. I wish it could be attached to a water source so I wouldn't have to refill it all the time (at least once daily). The first bit of each batch does come out like a slushie. But it melts and recirculates the water to make more ice and the bin drains so there isn't a pool of water in with the ice. I downloaded the App and set it up to just make ice 24/7 that way I dont have to manually turn it on ever. The initial cleaning process was a bit involved and it could use some RGB, but thats just my opinion lol

It's pretty quiet, makes ice fast and I love that you can set an on/off schedule with the app. However, it is expensive and if it stops working hopefully you're still under warranty because your options for repair are non-existent. We're on our second unit because the last one started leaking 6 months after the warranty ended and there was nothing we could do but junk it and buy a new one.

Then we bought this one, which we wanted in the 1st place but didn't want to pay the price. But... this far exceeds the precious maker. Tastes great, makes a lot of ice very fast and is SO quiet. Ice chewers will love this machine. We in Texas love it as we need ice all the time!!! Neighbor and fellow ice chewer waited for our recommendation and now he has one too!

I love crunch ice. It’s actually the motivator for me to drink more water. I hate drinking water, but add this ice and I’ll drink it no problem. I’ve heard reviews of it being loud. I haven’t had that experience at all. I’ve had no problems with it thus far. I did buy the extended warranty just to be safe. If you’re on the fence about spending a lot of money on this - I say do it. I don’t have any regrets!!

We have experienced no problems after two weeks of use. The web app is useless to me, as I walk by the machine several times a day and can see if it needs water or is functioning properly.

The only thing I recommend is to clean it prior to using and to use bottled water. I tried it with tap water and I didn’t like the taste. Switched to bottle water and it tastes good. There is a spot for a filter but the filters are still out of stock. Overall, very pleased with this ice maker.

Though it is a bit expensive, I had it set up, cleaned, and producing ice in less than an hour. If you keep it on, it keeps ice pretty well, and if you turn it off, you will have about a glass full of ice in 20 minutes. It isn't loud, and sits nicely on my counter. If you chew ice - this is a must have for your kitchen.

It acts like it is plugged up regardless or what you do. I have purchased two filters from different places and followed the instructions meticulously. Each works for about a day then the ice maker says it needs water. It is easy to install. Be careful about noting which line goes into the external tank. The ice is fantastic both size and texture. The capacity is sufficient. It occasionally squeals but that usually lets you know it is about time for a cleaning.
