- 4 out of 5 stars review7/15/2022We love the quality of the ice and how fast it is made. The reason for only 4 stars is the water tank. We had a problem with it kept telling us to add water but it was full. We ended up sitting the tank on a piece of foam to raise the water level about an inch and haven’t had a problem since. Seems to be a bad design. Disappointing when you spend that kind of money for it not to work correctly. Over all we are happy.
Makes great ice. Need improvement on side tank.

Upon monitoring with a wi-fi analyzer, it did not show up on the list of active devices until several power resets. I wish the instructions were a bit more clear with regards to the cleaning instructions; as the cleaning and power LED's flash after the cycle is almost completed, then finally shuts off, but the instructions did not reflect this intermediate step. Also, the instructions should also reference cleaning the external water storage tank, as mold can form if not regularly cleaned. The use of softened and filtered water will considerably reduce the need to de-scale the product on a regular schedule, so it is highly recommended to use this type of water so...

Said he had one and didn’t use distilled water and it went bad but he liked it so much he got another one. I’ve had problems with two previous under the counter ice makers from GE UPN15 models, not too impressed so giving this one a chance. Going to be using only distilled water! Will be back after 30 days to review this one.

The setup for wireless is simple, and you're less than an hour from unpacking to getting ice in your bin. I can't imagine not having the side-mount water reservoir, so plan to make that part of your purchase. I wish the bin was a little more insulated to keep the ice from melting, but when you're using it for a party or other activity, melting won't be an issue.

They refer to this as "Opal 2.0". We owned the original Opal as well...and while we loved it, it was an extremely finicky appliance...prone to loud noises and intermittent operation. We're about a month into owning Opal 2.0. She is a lot quieter than her predecessor. The ice bucket is an improvement (It won't fall out on your like the old one could). I still plan to clean and descale it regularly. We have soft water, but I'm trying to stay a head of any issues. Hopefully, Opal 2.0 has better inner workings than Opal 1.0. Regardless, we LOVE this ice.

Can be noisy when first filling up or defrosting but noise reduces as more ice is produced. Makes ice within 20 minutes as stated but takes approximately 30 for a full cup. Takes up a decent amount of counter space but not much more than a typical countertop toaster oven. The wifi capability makes scheduling easy. If you like the crunchy, “Sonic” ice, this machine does the job.

I tried to fix it, replacing the intake valve and filter, but was unsuccessful so I thought it would be great to have some of that chic-fil-a ice and bought the opal 2. So far, it’s been great. I set a schedule for it to turn on a couple hours before I wake up and an hour before I get home from work. I stock pile the leftovers in my broken ice maker’s bin and I always have ice. It was easy to set up, starts making ice in about 30 min and is full after about 2-1/2 hrs. It’s great for cocktails tea or sodas. When you get a replacement unit it is a refurbished unit which still should be “like new”. The one they sent us had a scratch on the top and a huge dent on the back. We set it up and it was not much softer in noise than the original. Decided to keep the original unit but I would not buy it again if I knew how loud this machine is when it’s making the ice.

As soon as we turned it on to make ice water started pouring into the bin where the ice would go. The unit began making ice quickly and we were happy with that. But after it was full and we removed our first scoop of ice the unit started trying to make ice right away and water began pouring into the bin on top of our full ice bin and melting the ice. The unit stopped trying to make ice and began displaying “add water”. Even though my side tank was over half full of water. I filled the tank up anyway and still displays “Add water”. If I pull the bin out and look there is water in the inside reservoir. But when I shut the machine water will again pour into the bin and after a few minutes without making ice, ...

Having it at our beck and call when we want ice we have it. Very nice addition to the kitchen and everyday routine. I have had to clean it a few times already after only having it just over a month. But I assume that is due to the water that we are using verses any actual fault of the ice maker. It is worth the money if your family is always wanting cool drinks or bags of ice for sore muscles

It defrosts when it does not need to do so. I turned it off last night. Sat for 10 hours. I turned it on this morning and it started making ice. After it’s first dump, it started defrosting. It has been on 4 hours now and the bin is not half full and it has defrosted at least twice. Do not buy. I am going to give this unit a few more days then return. The ice is great! Taste great and is soft and easy to chew. I love the ice - hate the units inability to function. GE should “recall” them and fix ...

Ok first thing I noticed is that as it sits overnight and ice starts to melt it will not automatically restart on its own to fill up again. Yes with the app you can set it up to start at whatever time you want. But let’s say I schedule it to start back up at 7 am then it will start and fill back up but it will not restart again if I’ve level goes back down. Second dislike. Having water tank full of water it sometimes still runs out of water inside the machine like it’s out of water even though tank is full. I have to manually put water inside the unit so it can start making ice again. Then after that it will pull water from tank and keep making ice. Why it does this I don’t know. I have removed hose...

I love that I can use my phone app for it and set it for a schedule. It starts at 6am and stops at 6pm for my everyday use! Fits nicely on my counter and looks nice! It does make some noise while making ice which is expected but it’s not too loud. If I have the tv on I don’t even notice it. The extra water reservoir is nice so I don’t have to be constantly refill it. I would definitely recommend. While it is expensive I feel it’s worth it and would definitely buy again!

I agree with the previous reviews that the machine is a bit on the noisy side but it sits in our kitchen and we don't hear it in any other rooms. Also, we only use distilled water in the hopes of avoiding any maintenance issues, and it isn't always readily available. That said, my gang is thrilled with the ice that this puppy puts out. Worth the hassle.

I had researched this model some time ago but the reviews were not very good. However, GE updated it recently and the reviews were great. I’m not sorry I bought this model. Lovely aesthetically, black SS to match my other appliances and makes loads of crunchable ice, just the way my husband likes it! This ice machine is perfect!

They typically have a set lifespan around 2-4 years in my experience. Regardless, these machines make the best ice! Recommend using distilled water to increase its life expectancy and to ensure cleaning of the machine is completed regularly. Makes enough ice for a family of 8. Easy set up and install. Fits perfectly under our kitchen cabinets. Runs quietly.

We based our decision on multiple reviews across many sites online. We wanted pure nugget ice not hollow bullet ice. And this machine is worth the investment. Our refrigerator's ice machine freezes over and is therefore unreliable. So this was just the thing we needed. Set up was a bit confusing, but we figured it out. And it can get quite noisy. So those are the only two "cons" to this machine.

I love that the side water tank connects to the ice machine and it is extremely quiet. I had a full bin of ice in less than 40 minutes!( and we kept using it too. The machine keeps the ice nice and cold so you don't wake up to water in the am. Looking at a second for my RV!
