- 5 out of 5 stars review4/11/2022Made a full bin of fresh crunchy ice right out of the box. The Manuel was easy to follow and we had crunchy ice within 30 minutes out of the box. One of the absolute best purchases I have made recently. Well made and easy to follow directions. Thanx GE

It was religiously cleaned, and maintained by my wife. Per the manufacturer's instructions. It was great, for 10 months. Then, repeatedly ceased making ice. She'd clean it again. It would work for a day., then stop. The last time, (June 2022), it didn't come back. We were told by GE that they could repair it, for over half, ($) what I'd paid for it. NOPE!

The clumping isn’t an issue either because the nuggets break apart with barely a touch. The texture of the ice is perfect and easy to chew and is just like Sonic ice. Hoping GE add this ice to their refrigerator line because I would buy that in a minute.

The first generation Ice maker died after about a year, but our second gen still works and we love this newest one. It makes the best ice and the side tank allows us to have to fill water less often. It makes plenty of ice to support a family of 4.

It is great when it worked the one time. I had issues with it not making ice from the beginning. We cleaned it multiple times thinking there was something in the filter but it did not help. It would work for a short time and then not make ice at all. It only made a full container of ice once in the past year. Very disappointing for the cost of the product.

But it makes really weird grinding noises at times when filling. It didn't do that until we added the recommended filter. Also it makes a whirring sound that is a bit noisy when making ice.

Both had the same issue. Stopped making ice due to “Add Water” error, even though reservoir was full and water cascading down the back. I only used distilled water in both units, and I followed the cleaning instructions as stated in the manual. I believe you have a design issue. I was not willing to request another unit, even though it was still under the initial 12 month warranty period. There is little reason to believe the next one would be any different. I scrapped it last week. An expensive lesson.

At 4:30 p.m. party lights, party music and how party ice automatically turn on to let me know it’s happy hour. Also, we unplugged opal to repaint the backsplash and it emailed me! It said it had been offline for 48 hours and to come check on it! It also provided me contact information if I had technical issues. If the robots are coming and they are like this, sign me up!

The side tank is a great time saver as I don’t have to constantly check water level to make sure I have enough for ice. A side tank when filled lasts 4-5 days and sometimes longer if I don’t use as much ice. Big plus is the modern look. Mine is black and a great compliment to my black kitchen appliances.

There's a ton of videos on YouTube about this problem, and how to fix it... but every one of the GE Opal ice makers look completely different once opened up (mine was also completely different than any others when I opened it up), and mine was not able to be fixed due to the cooling design. Seems like the noise is a very common issue with these GE ice makers, and the manufacturer hasnt done much to fix it eventhough theres multiple variations and designs of the same appliance. I'd recommend staying away from the GE Opal ice maker and looking for an alternative like I'm about to do now.

A few things I would do differently is make an option for the drip tray to have a mat that fits that for water drops, inside the ice box to make that box bigger to make sure the water at the bottom is not noticeable, and try to see if you can make it quieter.. Other than those things it's been great!

I upgraded and love this one. Easy to clean runs quietly. Just run the cleaning cycle with vinegar ever few weeks let it sit over night draining and rinse a few time and it’s good as new.

I can not stress how much I love this machine but it does come with a couple of issues that I thought I would point out. Issue # 1) The app for this machine is misleading and doesn't work well. You need the SmartHQ app from Haier US Appliance, not from GE in order to connect this to the app. The GE Profile Opal app is for the 1.0 machine with the single circular button on the top. Issue #2) The scheduling app doesn't work well at all. If you do not have the app opened on your phone, the scheduler will not work. You can turn the ice machine on and off through the app just fine when you launch it, but the scheduler will not turn on the icemaker...

I put it off for 6 months and finally bought one. I can’t say enough good stuff about this. The ice is wonderful and holds in my yeti cup for hours. If you do purchase this I highly recommend the side tank. It makes life so much easier. The WiFi feature is so wonderful. I set it for dinner and we have a bin full of ice ready to go. Don’t hesitate if you have ever thought about getting one of these. I wish I would have bought it sooner than I did! Cleaning is so easy and the filters do last.

Capacity of the ice bin is good and having the side tank is a lifesaver, I’m glad that I opted for that as well. The noise level is medium, I wish it was quieter, but it’s tolerable for the benefit of having nugget ice. The cleaning requirements is a bit cumbersome, at least the descaling process. It requires a good 24 hours to devote to it and that’s a lot of time investment for something that is not a pet or a child. I’ve only been using filtered water, yet the buildup is Much higher than I would’ve expected from using filtered water. It would be really nice to have a option to connect a filter somewhere along the hose line that goes from the side tank reservoir, leading into the icemaker that the customer could ...
