- 5 out of 5 stars review5/8/2024I am astonished at the volume and quality of the ice that this puppy makes! It’s not for a person who just wants to plug and play— my guess is that the nugget ice machine isn’t there yet, at least not the home version at a reasonable price. This guy needs frequently filled manually, and regularly sanitized and descaled. But great ice requires a great commitment and this bad boy is worth it!
Nugget ice for those willing to put in the effort!

However, here is the best tip we can give for anyone looking to purchase one: use distilled water in it. We used tap water for the first few months and got the horrible grinding noise. We were ready to throw it away. Then we found an article online about using distilled water. After switching to distilled water, it has been top-notch! Great product!

Went back and exchanged for a new one and worked right away. Extremely easy to operate and makes ice quickly. One of the higher prices options out there but looks sleek and looks nice and sleek on the counter.

It feels much better built than others and is a solid choice. Only thing I don’t like is the color. When I got this one I didn’t know it came in other colors.

The improvements are great such as the side water tank and non leaking front drawer but it's still a pain to clean and takes up a ton of counter space but we will put up with it for that delicious nugget ice!

I couldn’t believe that just 20 minutes after filling the water tank we had ice. The only down side I’ve found is that the ice bucket collected condensation and dripped when opened. I think if it was better insulated this wouldn’t be such a problem. I needed to turn it off and empty when not using the ice regularly.

The GE Opal was the highest rated on Consumer Reports, and we wanted a reliable and long-lasting item. We have had the Opal for almost a month now, and we greatly enjoy the features that allow the make to be programmed during times of the day of heavier use. After reading reviews, we decided to use purified drinking water to reduce the hard water buildup that may occur with tap water. As of right now, no regrets. The Opal was more money than we wanted to spend, but after researching, it became clear that it was one of the best options for purchasing a high-quality product.

I previously owned another ice maker at a much lower price point that failed after 1 year so I upgraded to this machine but for the price I’m surprised at how loud it is. Especially because I bought the 2.0.

There are a few flaws that we have encountered while using it. To much excess water seeps into the bin with the nuggets of ice and causes the ice to stick together. The other issue we have run into while using this device is sometimes it stops mid cycle and stops making ice. We aren’t sure what is causing that.

Simply instructions on how to setup, with bonus WIFI connection. Dual light settings. Noise is not an issue. My wife loves the Sonic ice. I do not recommend many products, but this is well worth the price. Buy the separate water tank. Fits on either side. Wish there was an extended warranty for purchase.

Makes more ice in a day than my household can use for sports bottles and other cold beverages. The start up was a little fussy because you really have to be sure to get any air out of tank line, but once it up and running it's ice, ice baby!
