- 4 out of 5 stars review8/3/2022I love that this works off of Wi-Fi and it works pretty good. If I could change anything it would be the set up (pretty heavy, flushing with bleach, placement away from heat, need inches around the back and also space in front for drip trey) also only makes 1 shape of ice. The good outweighs the bad though because it takes about 30-40 minutes to get a cupful, I can start it before I get home and it’s pretty quiet. How did I live life without it?

It does take up a bit of space on the counter, but it is worth it. We love the quality of the ice as well as the wifi feature (set up daily to run at 6am and go off at 9am, then again in the evenings). The only thing I don't like is the descaling process. Takes 18+ hours to clean the machine with vinegar and multiple steps.

Few minor issues where air gets trapped in the hose and you have to wiggle it free. Also water tank needs to be filled all the time but that just means we are using it a lot. No regrets at all.

I had the previous version Opal 1, I had to replace it twice during the first year because it kept breaking down. I love the ice though so I thought I would try the newer version. Unfortunately the side tank is smaller and needs constant refilling and the ice maker produces ice much slower.

Refunds are only given if the machine stops working after 60 days. One year warranty only covers you for a used refurbished replacement. No thanks.

Believe it was stuck trying churn out ice not quite sure. Definitely not a good noise. Tried turning off power but that did nothing. Finally, had to unplug it. Waited a few hours and turned it on again. Took about an hour and started making the same noise again. So, long story short, called GE and returned it. They are sending me a new one. Hopefully the last one was a lemon b/c it made ice fairly quickly.

I don't like that my machine like noise about once every few days for no reason even though it's been regularly cleaned and descaled.

Our old machine had no "practical" way to be cleaned that's why it broke within 2 years, and is now replaced lol. If you're looking for a machine to do parties of 15+ people, you're going to want a built in heavy duty ice maker, not this.

Was surprised to see water come down when it was starting the ice making process. Seeing outside videos showed this was normal Also side tank can be tricky to get to work at first due to small water line bubbles. I had already experienced the good ice it makes as my brother has two of these, but did not realize the set up process was not as straight forward as I expected.

I love the ice it makes but I’m a little worried about how some people say it will only last a few months or a year or two at the most. I should’ve gotten an extended warranty. But I’m only using distilled water and I plan to sanitize it next week for the first time after the initial cleaning. My purchase included the side tank but I found, so far, that I did not really need it although it worked perfectly, however, l’m glad I have it and may reattach it eventually. I like the looks of the machine but it is a little loud but it doesn’t run all the time. Our kitchen and living room and dining room are all in one big room so the low hum can be noticeable at times.

No waiting. It has started making a noise while making ice, a squeaking sound. Not sure what it is. But it hasn’t effected the ice making process. Sounds like it needs oiling. But overall we are satisfied with this product and love the ice! Just right for an ice eater!

So far we like this model even better than the first. The side holding tank makes refills easier and less frequent. It reduces the need to remove the bin to add water, which helps keep mess to a minimum. Haven't had to clean it yet, but it looks like it is more serviceable than the original. We love the nugget ice and this works great for our family. The initial run cleaning seemed to go faster than the old unit since water drains more quickly. Also, the built in filter has finer mesh which should prevent small the general dust that sometimes makes it way into the bin from cleaning or use. If you don't own one you should get on...

I purchased the Opal 2 and found it much better in all regards. Makes ice much faster, Stays cleaner longer, quieter and doesn’t run constantly. The only thing I don’t like is the control button. For one the placement of “invisible” power button just above the ice container makes it very easy to accidentally turn the machine off when pulling out the ice container. This is awkward and in a busy household easy for the machine to get turned off and then no ice! Otherwise the ice production is terrific and I love it. It does what it says without any issues thus far, and we have more space in our freezer! We have a pretty small fridge without an ice maker so it was a pain to make several trays of ice and empty them into the bucket. Inevitably, someone would leave an ice cube or two without filling the ice trays. And ice trays also get dirty and cause all that stuff to go in your ice. Now i don’t have to worry about it anymore! I use distilled water in mine, and I’ve found it doesn’t use too much of the water from the reservoir, just the water from the ice as it melts. This runs like a champ and if you are a sonic ice lover this is a must have! I will say the original one I had was quieter so plan for that is placing it. All in all though many features are improved. Holds less water so filling up every 2 days can be a pain. I say buy it though, you will not regret it!
