- 2 out of 5 stars review8/13/2024I have owned three in 5 years. They all stop working despite cleaning regularly and using a filter. Last one broke before warranty and it was not simply replaced . I was required to send back to company for repair. I will not be purchasing another one. For the $$ I can buy cheaper ones for disposable ice machines. - 5 out of 5 stars review5/23/2021I wanted a nugget ice maker and saw this model. It does exactly what it says, makes great nugget ice. I leave it on all the time and so far no issues. It is a little louder than a regular ice maker because of how it makes the ice but have it on a laundry room counter so its not an issue for me. Love the side tank so I don't have to constantly add water. Really like this ice maker so far

Small, soft chewable pellets that are made as fast as you can use them. I have never been able to make ice as fast as my family can use it and now I can. Not cheap and a bit bulky on the counter.... but it’s all worth it!

We live in a smaller house and we put it on the kitchen counter next to the refrigerator. The den is next to the kitchen. We have had to get used to the sound to watch TV.

Yes this GE ice maker is a little expensive but then you get what you pay for. So far this ice maker has provided my family with the much needed ice daily. The texture of the ice is like the ice you get from sonic drive in. The best ice hands down. Thank you so much for designing a perfect home ice maker.

The ice constantly melts because it’s not refrigerated. Since it’s always melting the lower ice is wet and waters down drinks. I mainly use it for water so it’s fine. But I wanted to for dranky dranks. It makes ice fast but if you’re filling up a larger yeti cup it doesn’t make enough for two. I do love that it’s munchable ice. It’s a lot better than the standard cheap counter top ice makers. But in my opinion it’s not worth the extra hundreds of dollars yet.
Ice melts constantly.

The only downside is that the scoop is a bit difficult to use and almost always end up with a few pieces of ice on the counter. I would suggest a fold down front on the ice bin to make it easier and cleaner to get the ice with the scoop.

The container does not have a pop open top to fill - must remove, fill, replace, adjust until flowing. PITA! When it makes ice, it is great ice.

This machine works great! We’ve had it for about a month now and we are so glad we made this purchase. We don’t use any other type of ice but this nugget ice. The GE OPAL Nugget Ice Maker is a very well built machine. We make sure we clean it once a week per recommendation from the manufacturer. When our kids come over to visit, they always ask for a bag of nugget ice to take home. They all love it as much as we do! This is a great product, fits on our kitchen counter perfectly.

However, thought the little bars light up, their designations do not. Makes it hard to know which one, without referencing the manual as to which bar is “power”, “light”, and “Clean” and where to exactly press. I believe they are supposed to light up but if not, then it’s a poor design, especially for the black unit. Someone failed to verify that aspect when doing the prototype, during the testing phase then. See pic.
Good but lights are out.

I wanted one for my RV but it needed to be free of a water line for travel. Opal fit the bill. I removed my old RV fridge, bought a dorm fridge & built a shelf to hold the Opal. When she arrived she fit like a glove. Incredibly happy with this purchase!

I immediately purchased a replacement as I can’t dream of living without this ice machine. Love the pellet ice texture, and ease of having almost unlimited ice on hand. I have recommended this product several times … a bit pricey but a staple in our household.

We had our first machine for about 4-5 months before something broke inside and started leaking everywhere. We got our second machine this is where it goes downhill it started making a screeching noise and would go into defrost constantly. They send a new one, same issue but this one couldn’t event make a full tray of ice not to mention the box it was delivered in was destroyed and the unit had a dent on the side. Another one was sent it ran perfect for literally 48 hours and then has barely made any ice it’s just been in defrost mode. Save yourself some time and headache and do not buy. So unfortunate, it could’ve been a great product.

Fast forward 3 weeks and now everyday it has a horrid loud whining/squeaky sound that last for 15-30 minutes. Quits for a couple of hours then starts back at it again. I have tried to call the numbers given for tech support and had to wait on forever hold twice. Then the last time I called I got hung up on. Hopefully someone reads this and actually pays attention. I will be calling until I get this product fixed/returned or replaced.

The Opal produces ice quickly and it’s mess-free!! Who doesn’t love that “good ice?”

The whole family makes use for it, sodas, iced coffee. Perfect size ice. If I have 1 dislike/concern it’s the noise sometimes get a bit loud. Not all the time, just random.

The clean light came on once and it took about 15/20 minutes to clean. It occasionally makes a low squeaking noise but it is seldom and I seem to be the only one that notices it. The side reservoir is a must in my opinion. Would recommend it

Does tend to melt if not used quickly, but makes new ice just as quick. We are very pleased with this ice maker and have told several friends how great it is and they also have purchased one also.
