Love the ice maker when it works. I received my first ice maker as a gift December of 2022. About a month after using it, it decided to stop working. They replaced it with a new one, but took over a month to get it. Has been working great for this past year until recently it decided to stop making ice. I have cleaned it following the recommendations in the manual. It still does not make ice. For the price paid I was hoping it would last longer than one year. Not sure if I would recommend.

I lived in an area where I was supposed to go 5-6 weeks before cleaning. I started getting notices after 3 days that it needed to be descaled. We switched to using distilled water, and that didn't help either. If we went a week without cleaning, the machine would start making moaning noises.

At first it was a great product but it does not even work now. It continues to say add water even after I have filled it. I have tried troubleshooting it and it has not work for over 2 weeks. I am so sad it was my mothers day gift for my first ever Mother's Day and the one thing I was looking forward to after having my baby was the ice chips and now I don't have them.

I was hesitant to purchase this ice maker due to the price. I finally did purchase it and boy am I glad I did. This ice maker produces the great nugget ice like you get at restaurants and it sits on your counter. It is a lot quieter than the other I had and makes a lot of ice.

Refilling ice cube trays is now a thing of the past. This might have just saved my life. Wife told me next time I put a empty ice cube tray back in the freezer she was going to kill me. I bought this and now I don't use Ice Cube trays, and better yet I'm still alive. Now if I can just find a device to lift the toilet seat for me.

We have tried 6 GE Opal ice machines and they have all quit around one year. The one we have now just quit at 7 months!! We kept trying in hopes they improved the machines but obviously that is not the case. Very frustrated and will not be buying anymore!!

Well this thing was cool gimmick and crazy expensive. That being said it makes ice really fast and they are the nugget size for ice. Had the ice maker for 1 week before it started making some moaning sounds. Made sure the unit was level on counter thinking maybe it was just me. Fast forward a few days and the sound has got so bad and loud that the only way to make it stop was to unplug the maker. Thought that the noise would go away but it never did. Also side note this thing is way bigger that I thought it would be. Well after 2 weeks I had to return it because the noise happened within 20 min of being on and would not stop and kept getting worse. When I took it back the guy at the counter knew exactly what I was describing and almost seamed like it was a common issue. Also there was no other units to replace my unit with from the store. So I would say save some money and use the ice trays or get cups of ice from local restaurants and save time, space and most of all MONEY!

No words !!! Chewing ice as a result of Pica (chronic anemic) has literally ruled my life since 2004. From running a Sonic to finding the perfect Tom Thumb machine. The nuggets from each machine are different- depends on how much use the machine gets, how clean the machine is, many different things even down to how much air is in the nugget. Once I found the perfect one I settle in. Making friends and visiting my favorite spot daily cooler and cups in hand, driving past 3 places to head to my favorite spot. I like the soft chewy cloudy nuggets. I say all that to tell you **** after years of trying different machines and reading millions of reviews I bought it THE GE OPAL 2.0 Nugget ice maker IS THE REAL DEAL it has changed my life!! I have 44 oz cups fill them and fridge them they stay chewable for hours not sure how many because they don't make it that long I don't freeze my ice it changes the consistency and it's too hard to chew. You will not be disappointed!!! I have had it 3 weeks it runs most of the time not loud and priceless. DO IT!!!!

I have been really enjoying the ice maker. Two things annoy me… the noise and the wifi connection. You can hear a constant buzz when making ice and every week or so when using the app it loses its connection from the cloud and you have to remove it and re-register it. It's still better than running to Chic-Fil-A or Sonic for good ice.

It works great for the first 1.5 years... then starts squealing and making loud clunking noises out of nowhere right when it's out of warranty. There's a ton of videos on YouTube about this problem, and how to fix it... but every one of the GE Opal ice makers look completely different once opened up (mine was also completely different than any others when I opened it up), and mine was not able to be fixed due to the cooling design. Seems like the noise is a very common issue with these GE ice makers, and the manufacturer hasnt done much to fix it eventhough theres multiple variations and designs of the same appliance. I'd recommend staying away from the GE Opal ice maker and looking for an alternative like I'm about to do now.
