I was so excited to use this ice machine. Within 24 hours it started making this loud noise. I turned it off maybe to reset and started it up again for it to only start making this loud motor noise in the middle of the night and would not stop unless unplugged. The ice did not make as fast as I had hoped either. I returned it.

The good: Delivery was on point. Super compact fir unser cabinet. Beautiful ice nuggets..yeah!! The Bad: Followed the instructions for cleaning. Ran the ice once and no issues. Ran it a second time....The sci-fi alien screeching sound when the gear, after the second run, freezes with ICE..No kidding. Unplugged and waited one whole day. Ran first, a little bit of nuggets, then the alien came back. Returned and refunded. Cant show the gear frozen..

Arrived in damaged box and had been repackaged on its side with everything just thrown on top. Contacted customer service and they recommended I return the ice maker in store, however I live 2 hours away from a store, which is why I ordered it in the first place. They then offered a return shipping label, which I accepted. I purchased the ice maker on sale and would have much rather just gotten an exchange, because now I probably won't be rebuying it once I receive my refund in 7-10 days after the unit is returned.

We purchased this unit on 5/23/26 and installed on 5/24/26. We clean per the operators manual and only use the correct recommended water. It is installed on counter and have the required room all around the system. Today is started squealing loudly. We unplugged it and left if off for 30 minutes. Plugged it back in and the squealing started again within a minute or so. Sounds like a bearing is going out. We submitted a replacement/warranty claim on the GE website. We will see what happens. We love the machine and enjoy the amount and size ice is produces. We just want this fixed or replaced.

I loved my Opal. Shame the motor seized after 2 years of faithful service. It made a horrible noise after only 18 months. There isn't any way to lubricate the inner working. We did our due diligence and cleaned it regularly, as recommended by manufacturer. For the price, I wouldn't buy it again. Lovely, until it wasn't.
