It was easy to figure out and provided excellent cleaning results. Sticky, stuck-on messes were no match for the power this vacuum brought to the table. I learned that I could depend on it to not only do the job, but do so in a complete and thorough way. The steam power function is such a great addition to the overall cleaning power it provides. It eliminated the need for set in stains to have to soak in cleaning solution forever. It helped the mess come right up with little to no fuss or frustration. I really loved that it used real steam instead of it just being a cheap marketing ploy. The self-cleaning cycle was great and did such a good job. Other products I've used were such a hassle to clean because they required you to completely disassemble and painstakingly clean every piece. This made it so much easier. One cleaning session later, this one is staying in my cleaning arsenal and the other one has been donated! As a mom of boys, 3 dogs, 1 cat, and a ranch wife (IYKYK), in a house with too much carpet… this HydroSteam is a must! We have lighter carpet, and it was rough. I cleaned it regularly with my old carpet cleaner, but I had just accepted the fact that there were going to be spots on our carpet that would never come out. This machine changed that, and I truly think the steam power made all the difference! The dual steam feature is unbelievable handy. The fact that you can pre-treat sticky stains is huge, and absolutely works! The suction power made the drying time after cleaning the carpets about half of what it would take with my old carpet cleaner, and the carpets felt noticeably more clean after using this HydroSteam cleaner than with my old one as well. We were at the point of starting to talk about replacing the carpets, but having this HydroSteam cleaner will push that conversation (and expense) back! This is a well thought out machine with lots of handy features. It is so easy to take all the pieces apart to ensure everything is cleaned well before putting it away- no more little traps for dirt and grime and gunk (and stink). The self cleaning feature for the hose is brilliant! So simple and easy to use and saves a ton of mess trying to clean the machine after each use. The HydroSteam is sturdy and well built. It is heavy enough to feel solid, without being so heavy it's a challenge to move around and use. (And totally cosmetic, but the black and copper coloring looks pretty sharp too!). This HydroSteam is absolutely worth it for the seam power and the extra features. Having a machine that is easy to use, even easier to clean, and one that does such a good job, means I will use it that much more. This one is truly a gem!

Be sure to vacuum thoroughly beforehand with your regular vacuum before washing the carpet. The Bissell machine comes with an upholstery tool and hand cleaner that are useful for furniture and tighter spots where the main unit can't reach, and both work well for stubborn stains that need a bit more focused attention. The self-cleaning cycle is also a nice feature. It's specifically for the hose and wand extension, but that makes sense since there isn't really another practical way to clean that part well. You just run it through the cycle and it handles it for you. The cleaning power has been solid. I used it on a short pile carpet with some set-in stains I wasn't confident would come out, and it handled them without much effort on my part. One thing I appreciated was that the carpets didn't feel drenched afterward, which is a common complaint with carpet cleaners in general. Drying time was reasonable. The steam function is what sets it apart from a standard carpet cleaner. Everything seems to come in twos here—including the accidents! The Bissell Revolution HydroSteam Carpet Cleaner has become an essential cleaning tool for my home. Since owning it, I've cleaned up a tea spill, multiple dog accidents, a high-traffic hallway, and our playroom. I feel like I've tested nearly every feature this machine offers. High-Traffic Hallway and Play Area I started in our playroom using the Steam Pretreat mode on a mystery sticky area (juice? glue? we have no idea!). At first, the pretreat mode didn't completely remove the stickiness. However, it seemed to loosen the mess, because when I immediately followed up with SteamWash Max mode, the spot came right out. Goodbye, mystery sticky spot! The rest of the playroom has older carpet with a beige-and-black mix that already looks a little worn. After cleaning the entire room with the HydroWash Max setting, I noticed a big improvement. The room smelled fresher, and my kids even seemed to sneeze less. I was very happy with the results. The high-traffic hallway was the real test. Our family wears black socks a lot, so you could clearly see the traffic pattern on our white carpet. The carpet isn't new, so I wasn't expecting perfection—just a cleaner look. While cleaning, I was honestly amazed watching the dirty water being suctioned out of the carpet. I've used a lot of upright and handheld carpet / upholstery cleaners and this one outperforms all of them. I LOVE the steam feature. I was able to presteam areas of my sons' bedroom rug that had slime smashed into the carpet and it came right out after. The clean water / soap container and the dirty water container are both a great size. They hold a lot without being overly bulky or hard to carry. On the regular cleaning function, this machine was able to make my area rugs look fresh and bright. The handheld attachment lets me use it on my couches and for spot treating and it works great. Best of all, it is a breeze to clean this machine. The containers have wide openings to empty them that also allow them to dry quickly. The front panel over the roller brush also pops off easily to clean lint and dirt out easily. And the handheld attachment has a self-cleaning mode to get all the lint and dirt out of the brush head. I love that this machine, which is the same size as my previous upright carpet cleaner, actually replaces 2 machines because of the handheld attachment. Plus it has the steam feature which is an amazing upgrade that makes it even more effective.

With two young kids, I usually deal with sticky messes or stuff that's embedded in the carpet that I can't scrub out - this takes it right out! Some things that I'm loving - 1. The "Steam Pretreat" mode uses a concentrated blast of steam to loosen stubborn, sticky messes (like syrup) before I even begin the full wash. So it break downs stains really well. 2. It comes with three different settings so you can use the one that you want at different times. There's 'Max Clean', which is the most powerful mode. There's 'Steam Pretreat' for localized, tough stains. There's 'Quick Dry', which is a lower-moisture setting that allows carpets to dry in about 30 minutes, which is excellent for high-traffic areas. 3. The dual "PowerBrushes" feature 12 rows of bristles. This high level of agitation helps pull up pet hair/your hair and dander that my other vacuums often miss. 4. This is easier to clean as compared to my other vacuums. It comes with "EZ Clean" brush roll cover that is removable, allowing me to rinse out hair and debris from the machine itself. 5. For an upright machine, it is surprisingly easy to navigate around furniture, and the LED lights on the foot help reveal stains in darker corners. Things to keep in mind - 1. If you're cleaning a large room, you have to fill in the clean tank and empty the dirty tank more than once, but that comes with the territory of steam/water cleaning. 2. It's slightly heavy but with all it provides, I don't mind it. 3. If you do a deep/max clean, your carpet with take sometime to dry. Worth it. All in all, I absolutely love how it steams and scrubs at the same time. My set-in stains are gone and my carpet looks new. I don't have any stains/black spots anymore.

We can deep clean our carpets without outside help and the help refresh the room and make it feel more like when we first moved in. Thankfully we haven't had many crusty/stick-on messes, mostly dog hair and stains, crumbs stuck in the carpet fibers. It helped clean all of that. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that it can leave the carpet wet, and found adding extra weight to the base to increase contact and thus increase suction helped to remove more water. I'd recommend also adding fans to the room to help ensure everything fully dries! Overall we love it and will keep using it to deep clean our carpets.
