I previously tried spot cleaning them with a portable carpet cleaner without much luck. I've also been looking for an upright carpet cleaner to cover more surface. Enter the Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam! I've always wanted to try using steam to help loosen carpet stains. Setup was easy! The clean water bin and handle snapped into the unit easily. The set also included some cleaning solutions which I thought were too fragrant as I'm sensitive to certain scents. I actually skipped out on using any cleaner as a test to see if steam alone was enough to notice a difference. I set the unit to the steam pretreat and hit the dirtiest areas, then used steamwash max setting to go over small areas at a time before trying to extract as much water as possible with a bunch of passes. I noticed that some “dirt piles” would be left behind after some passes, but those were easily sucked back up on another pass. The spots came out, and the dirty water tank showed how much grime was hanging out in the carpet. It's both satisfying and horrifying. Keep in mind, this was using hot water and steam only! For smaller jobs like stairs and upholstery, it was nice to have the option to use a hose with tool- unfortunately no steam option when using this, but it was good for getting a regular clean. The self cleaning option using tough stain tool was really cool and convenient not requiring a whole additional source of water to “rinse” like I've had to use with other machines. Overall I was amazed at how much I felt the steam helped lift these old mystery stains. I wish the suction for water extraction could've been stronger as the steam does create more wetness, but I feel like it's a small price to pay for the luxury of having the steam option!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow. I am floored by this machine, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Our carpets have seen some things. They are past their expiration date, and were honestly not the best quality even when we moved in. After over a decade of wear on them, including the appearance of three small children who have subjected them to more bodily fluids, snacks, and other abuse than I care to admit - I was at a loss on how to ungross these carpets. We even hired a professional steam cleaning company, but even they couldn't get the black gunk stains out. Then came the Bissell. Again - wow. I used the urine formula first. We have no pets, but back to back years of diaper and potty training age little kids can do some things to a carpet's smell. It smelled SO GOOD after. The amount of grime that came out was both horrifying and satisfying. But, those stubborn black spots stayed. A few days later, I decided to try their pro formula. Both of these have a sample amount included in the box. For the amount of grime I was tackling, I did buy an additional bottle of the pro, which was needed. It took a number of times going over each spot, but it got the stains out so much better than even the professional cleaners! WOW! It is a heavy machine with a powerful suction, so it did take some elbow grease working it over the significant stains. It's about the size of a standard vacuum, so the proper amount of storage space should be accounted for ahead of time. I do also wish the clean water tank was bigger. I think it's large enough to go over a medium size room for a quick once over on a single tank, but it flies through the water if you need to hold the trigger as instructed for the stains. I had to stop and refill the clean water tank quite a few times, which also burned through the cleaning solution. Cleaning the machine isn't too much trouble. The dirty water tank dumps and rinses out easily. The bristles at the bottom take a bit of wiping, but it wasn't too time consuming even after the amount of gunk we pulled from ten year old carpets. The results are definitely worth it. The carpet feels, looks, and smells significantly better. I loved that the clear section above the rolling brush made it easy to see if water was still being sucked up, so dry time wasn't more than a few hours. As mentioned, it did a better job than the professionals. The amount of dirt it pulled up was eye opening. It's now my favorite deep cleaning tool in the house, and such a relief to know how much cleaner the floors are for my littles. I've already recommended it to a number of my friends who also have young kids.

This carpet cleaner is very easy to put together right out of the box and easy to start using immediately after opening. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow and read. The overall cleaning power is top of the line and the machine is very powerful. I was able to use the Bussell Hydrosteam to clean up some tough sticky messes very easy. Another great feature of this carpet and upholstery cleaner is the steam power function. This cleaner features a 1 gallon easy to use and clean tank and makes steam cleaning so easy and functional. I really appreciate that this Bissell uses Hydrosteam to clean which seems to clean up dirty messes faster and more efficiently .Another nice feature is the accessory hose which makes it easy to use to clean hard to spot areas especially if you have pets. The 1-piece removable brush is also nice for hard to reach areas. Another great feature of this carpet and upholstery cleaner is the self- cleaning cycle. The self- cleaning cycle is a great benefit for small stains and small spots. I also really like how this carpet cleaner has a built in pretreater function to help lift hard stains. This carpet and upholstery cleaner is really a nice machine, light weight and easy to use around your house. I would definitely recommend this cleaner to others who have pets and to those family that do not have pets. This cleaner really gets the job done. Overall, the cleaning of the machine after use is very simple and fast cleanup.

They have seriously “thought of it all” when it comes to this carpet and upholstery cleaner. From the moment I opened the box, I was impressed by the stylish black and gold design (cause let's face it…it's WAY more fun to clean when you are cleaning with something pretty! ;) ). But the easy set up and simple steps to begin carpet cleaning was what really won me over from the get-go. As a busy mom of three little ones, I needed something that required little effort, but great results. I'm happy to say…this was it! I love the steam power function. I had a VERY, set in, big stain on our carpet from the previous owners. We have tried everything to get it out and nothing ever comes close to helping it. I have no clue what it was from, but it reminds me of black dried tar or something. Well, after using the steam power max function and going back and forth over it a few times…I'd say it's about halfway gone already! Now, that's really saying something since everything else we have tried has not touched it a single bit over the last several years! It's SO much better than it was before. I also love that I can clean upholstery and rugs with the hose and attachments it comes with. They even thought to include a spraying crevice tool to get to the hard to reach areas along the edges of the rooms! I have an old rug that I've been saving to use the tough stain tool and brush attachment on and wow….it made it look brand new again! It only took about 3 minutes…SO easy! After I was done, I used the self cleaning cycle for the hose and attachments so that cleanup was a breeze, as well. Overall, I thought that the Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam did a fantastic job. Not only did it help tremendously with hard, set-in stains, and making the carpet look good again…..but it left my carpet smelling so much better and (thanks to the steam power) made it SO much cleaner for my little ones to play and crawl around on. The steam is really what sets this carpet cleaner apart in my opinion!! All of this, AND it was super easy to use. Cleanup was fast and simple once done. The only thing I will say is that I recommend going ahead and purchasing a bigger bottle of the carpet cleaner solution. It does come with two different types of cleaning solution, but they are small sample bottles. I would say if you have more than just a couple of rooms you are planning to do at once with the same type of cleaning solution, do yourself a favor and go ahead and have the other on hand so you don't have to pause your cleaning and head to the store :) I highly recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am extremely impressed with this carpet cleaner. I live in a home that is mostly hardwood floors with rugs. We have two toddlers and a dog. We vacuum frequently and I thought we were pretty clean! Enter the carpet cleaner. From unboxing, it is an impressive machine. It is very sturdily built and simple to put together. It comes with two different shampoo solutions to trial; one general purpose and one geared toward pet stains. Operation is very intuitive and straightforward. I cleaned two large rugs in my testing: An 8 x 10 area rug in the living room and a 7 ft runner in the kitchen. Both are in VERY high traffic spots but didn't look obviously dirty to me. A few passes of this machine proved me wrong. I could immediately tell it was working. The machine very quickly generates powerful steam and the rotating brush really works the shampoo solution deep into the carpet. The machine then thoroughly extracts all the gunk. The result was a canister full of dark brown waste water. Yuck!! A few hours later, my rugs were dry and ready for use again. This carpet cleaner will definitely work its way into my regular cleaning routine.

The hydrosteam made sticky messes from my toddlers clean up so smoothly and effortlessly. The pre treating feature is awesome! Again, just making it so much easier to lift and remove stains. Love that you also have a hose to be able to clean your stairs or couches as well. The look of the product is very sleek. It's very easy to disassemble and reassemble. It was surprisingly easy to assemble and start using. You simply click the handle into place and insert the clean water tank. I was honestly surprised by how lightweight it felt, which made it easy to carry up the stairs. The product feels very sturdy and I expect it to last a long time. It was very simple to fill the tank with water, and I loved the markings on the side of the clean water tank, so I knew exactly how much water and solution to add. After that, I simply plugged it in and it was ready to go. It didn't take long for it to heat it up. The power button on the vacuum seems a little odd (it has a protective plastic cover over it), but it works perfectly. The machine was very simple to use- squeeze the trigger to release the solution as you move the vacuum forward and release the trigger as you pull the vacuum back. I loved that there was a steam pre-treat option to help get out stubborn stains and felt like it worked well. The steam power function was by far my favorite feature. You can actually see the steam as you're using the vacuum, and it feels like it is getting the carpet so much cleaner. As a mom of six, there are constant messes, and this carpet cleaner quickly and easily tackled toothpaste and marker on my carpet. I was amazed that it got everything out so quickly and easily. We are a ‘no shoes in the house' family, and I assumed my carpets were mostly clean. I was wrong. I was both disgusted by how dirty the water was when I emptied the tank, as well as satisfied that the carpet was now so much cleaner. One thing I didn't realize at first was that you need to empty the dirty water tank before using the self-cleaning cycle. The first time I tried it, I didn't empty the tank and water squirted out of the attachment while I was running the self-clean cycle. However, after I emptied the dirty water tank, the self-cleaning function worked great. It was very easy to use and also pretty cool to watch! It was also very easy to disassemble, and I loved that the parts rinsed so easily. I've been really happy with this carpet cleaner so far. It's simple to use, powerful enough for everyday family messes, and left my carpet looking almost like new.

We've been using an older model Bissell cleaner for several years. We didn't realize we needed an upgrade until we used the Hydrosteam! We have two children and two fur-children in our home and plenty of messes so it feels like we're always cleaning something around here. The Hydrosteam tackled a variety of messes with ease. New stains? No problem. Sticky drinks? No issues. Pet stains? A thing of the past. We even took it to my dad's house to test and treat some year's-old staining that is now completely gone thanks to the Hydrosteam. I believe that it can handle anything! The steam power function is a great addition and you can see the benefits. This is hands down the best carpet cleaner we've used and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The short and simple review of this steamer is that it is extremely easy to use, the steamer extends this beyond just a stain remover, but also a way to refresh carpets. The only Con, is the dry time afterwards, but that is nearly just something that requires additional planning. I am a dad of two young girls, and while stains do happen, I feel we had more of an issue with refreshing our carpets that the kids play on all day every day. The steam clean function does a great job of truly making the carpets feel and smell like new. If you are using it to clean messes it does that pretty easily. Food stains that are still wet are obliterated as if they never happened. And since this is pretty easy to setup, pretty much a vacuum you just fill with water and cleaning solution and it's good to go. So getting to stains quickly is a snap. The one CON, but is likely more of an issue to be planned for is how wet this makes floors. When cleaning thinner area rugs you're looking at an hour or so (with fan) for this to dry. For room carpets with a bit thinker pile you're probably looking at a few hours or overnight for it to dry completely. I think this is mostly due to the suction power of it just being a stand up vacuum. Ventilation and how big a fan you use plays a factor, but still if you've ever rented a carpet cleaner do not expect the same suction power. The accessories for cleaning upholstery or small stains works exactly as you'd expect. It does have this self cleaning feature for this accessory hose where you can close off the end of the tool and it'll cycle water thru cleaning it. This was a new and easy feature to me that I thought was a nice addition but saw that this is becoming the norm on all new carpet machines. In the end I would recommend this for anyone with kids, especially if you wanting to refresh area rugs in a playroom/mud room to get out the general funk they get. This makes a big difference in the overall smell of the room without having to spray air freshener which you know are just masking an unpleasant scent. I would not recommend this if you have mostly thick/long pile carpet as this likely won't dry your carpet fast enough for it to be all that convenient.
