The directions say take two and I notice relief in about 4 hours. I did not have any side effects such as cramping. I like that these chews are individually wrapped, and they are not overly sweet, but I wish the serving size were smaller. The mixed berry taste is pretty good, but it's hard to eat 2-4 of them when my stomach is upset. I've only been taking two as needed, so it's taking a little longer to work, but they are effective. I haven't experienced any cramping, or unpleasant side effects, but when they kick in, I definitely need to be near a toilet! Because of the format, I wouldn't use this laxative product for occasions of severe constipation, but I'd buy these again for times when I'm just wanting to soften my stool for an easier time in the bathroom.
