Software works well. But… they are devious and subversive about their add-on “extra” services. Example: when choosing payment options for filing, you will incur an extra $30 fee unless you pay with credit card. There are 3 other examples that use the same “oh by the way…” you owe more money because that is a premium service. Very disingenuous way to do business.

TurboTax made filing my taxes quick and stress-free. The step-by-step guidance was easy to follow, and I felt confident that everything was accurate. I appreciated how it explained things clearly and caught deductions I might have missed. Definitely a reliable and convenient option for tax season.

It is not a good product model to charge returning customers more than customers who are new to the product. It is also not a good idea to hide additional fees at the end so that the customer feels like they are only spending one amount ($99 instead of $139), but then charge them the exact difference in additional fees after the entire process has been completed. This is also true when I was only able to actually import 2 of our 5 W-2 forms.

TurboTax often presents questions and legal agreements without sufficient context, making it difficult to understand their purpose or impact. I repeatedly had to download long legal documents and seek external explanations (ChatGPT) just to make informed decisions, which slowed down what is supposed to be a streamlined process. Providing clear, plain-language summaries before forms and agreements — with links to full legal documentation — would greatly improve usability, efficiency, and trust.

I really didn't like the product and plan to stop using the product next year. Having to pay $140 was really crazy. And the import features (e.g. import from Workday/Robinhood) did not really work. It kept asking me the same questions multiple times too.

It is absurd that Turbotax is charging $99 to file your taxes. That is a tough pill to swallow, however, the most insulting part of it they want to charge you $40 dollars to pay for it with your return and an additional $35 to deposit it into your bank account. I have used Turbotax since 2016. I would rather pay $175+ to someone in person to file my taxes, an that is what I will do next year. What a scam.

After entering all information, including bank account numbers, the system looped through the same review 3 more times; seems it didn't like me not releasing my information to their bank. I prepared taxes for over 40 years using professional software - Turbo Tax took twice as long. Now that I'm retired, I had to find a "simple" solution to filing. This is good for those not familiar with tax prep.

I know that there are other options available, but TurboTax makes it so easy that it is worth the cost, especially if you have investments. All of my banking has auto import options which means I just need to verify the information looks accurate and I am good to go. Easy peasy.

I found the process straight forward and reasonable to complete in a couple of hours - including the time to find all the documents I needed. BUT - I inadvertently selected the wrong choice on a critical question that had a huge impact on the final results. During my review of the final documents I saw some crazy numbers and was ably to quickly navigate back to where I had made the mistake. So it's better to take a bit of time to read everything carefully and s-l-o-w-l-y to avoid a major mishap. The ability to quickly return to various sections made it easy to figure out what had happened and to correct it. The various add-on costs were a trifle annoying.
