fairly unsatisfied

Not as user friendly as in the past. State information froze up and nothing I did would unfreeze it so I had to eliminate all of my information and start at the beginning again in order to proceed through the full return. When I tried to file I was informed that I was unable to file my returns with turbo tax for the year 2024 which was not correct. I in fact did file successfully with turbo tax. In order to file my 2025 taxes I had to agree that I had filed unsuccessfully and fill out even more information before I could file.

Not Up to Turbo Tax Standards

This online version of Turbo Tax pales in comparison to the versions available by purchasing a CD or downloading a copy, as I've used for more than 25 years in the past -- and which I would have used this year, had not those versions been compatible only with Windows 11 or higher. This version is much more expensive, more difficult to navigate, does not allow ready access to the various forms being completed in the return, and has poorly-described processes which can lead to redundancies in effort and -- more seriously -- in duplication of forms. Really, REALLY not up to Turbo Tax standards as I've known them over the past 3 decades!

Think twice before you pay for this service.

Last year I was single, this year I'm MFJ. If both spouses itemized the year prior (the year they were single) and received a 1099-G for state tax refund, TT doesn't allow you to pull both individuals 1040 from the prior year. It runs the calculations for the recovery exclusion based on only one person's 1040. THIS IS A SYSTEM FLAW. After speaking with 9 turbo tax reps who offered little to no help, I was finally directed to the refund request link. I applied for a refund and it was DENIED. So now I'm stuck filing a return I know was calculated incorrectly and have no way to fix it despite speaking with multiple turbotax "experts". I will never, ever again pay for this sham of a service.

Problem fixing errors and too much manual input

Had to do a lot of manual intervention to fix errors, even though forms were imported automatically, pay stubs and tax forms. When it says we will walk you through step by step it should have links to take you directly to the item in question. When you're trying to fix something, you get stuck in this continuous loop and never fix the problem. I have been using Turbo Tax for about 32 years this year has been the most frustrating trying to file my taxes. My taxes are pretty straight forward, no complicated by any means.

Bug in online version

Believe there is a bug which caused the withheld social security payment to be seen as an estimated tax payment and a revised/corrected form 2210 was needed to electronically file. Deborah resolved the issue by having me delete the form 2210. Created a major waste of time for me, but Deborah was great.

One Improvement-Two Improvements Still Needed

An improvement from before is that it is now less tricky as far as getting you to upgrade your purchase without you really knowing it and not knowing how to back out of it. Two improvements that it still needs are: 1. It never prompted me to add any of my estimated tax payments, and I had to look it up to find out where to go add them. I assumed they had already been added in. 2. The state return never asked if I wanted to apply this year's refund to next year. Could never find how to do that. The federal didn't either but I looked it up online and eventually found how to adjust it.

Reliable and mostly easy to use tax prep service.

Our income taxes aren't particularly complicated. We have some interest income from bank savings, and we both retired last year, but we aren't self-employed, don't own any properties other than our primary residence which we've lived in for many years, don't have any uncommon deductions or credits, and no unusual tax situation. Still, it's very convenient to use TurboTax, the cost is reasonable (though it's gone up), and the online interface is easy to use, provides useful prompts, is not slow or glitchy, and has been reliable. Overall, it's a satisfactory way to do taxes. One minor complaint: when returning to TurboTax after logging out, or when navigating out-of-sequence to the different tax prep sections, TurboTax makes you re-do a number of steps that you've already completed. The repetition can be tedious.

Prefer desktop

I prefer desktop but had to do online as I didn't have Windows 11 on my computer. I didn't like that online did not let me do several returns... with desktop, I could do one return joint, one return me separate, and one with my wife separate, but I could not do so with desktop.

Turbotax Online is Horrible

Turbotax online is a lousy product compared to desktop. It is nfortunate tha desktop only supports windows 11. Online has too many mistakes and glitches that require a workaround and numerous hours on the phone with Turbotax reps that don't understand IRS rules or case law.

Too many up sell windows and short on error detail

Very annoying screens that seem to come up constantly to up sell more services - maybe once at the start and once at the end, but not several times while entering information. Also, I spent hours trying to fix one tiny error on a three choice check box selection for my stock sales, with the error message so vague it was impossible to determine the error - if an error is found, then PLEASE be specific on what the error is. There were four separate sales with multiple acquisition and cost basis amounts on each sales date, yet the message couldn't even tell me which one of the sales blocks had the error. Not sure I would use Turbo Tax online version going forward.
