Customer reviews for John Deere Gator XUV 12 Volt Ride On forWe've gotten a lot of use.
We purchased this almost 2 years ago for our sons Christmas present. He had just turned 1. He is a big kid and looked more like a 2.5-3 year old. He didn't have the steering down well at first but it was easy to just turn the wheel for him and it would stay put and he would only need to hit the gas and he would love riding in circles for a while. After a few months he finally figured out how to steer it, then reverse it and then go into high gear. He rides it all over our yard. It goes down little hills but not back up... The tires don't have that "off road" traction to be able to get up the hill, it just digs into the dirt. So that has been a little annoying but really no big deal.. The steering wheel came off about a year after having it, so I had to go to the store to buy a new long screw to fit and I had to reinforce with some duct tape to cover it up so it didn't stick out and potentially hurt my boys. That was a bit of a bummer, but an easy fix after a run to the hardware store. The battery didn't last but a year also. But then again, we live in Phoenix and we weren't bringing the battery in when we weren't using it, so that's more our fault. Batteries don't do well sitting out in the heat. So we have had to replace that and did at batteries plus, which they also have a 1 year warranty and if you keep your recipes you can exchange it for a new one of it ones bad within that year. I'm not sure what walmarts policy is with their batteries. Otherwise it's a nice ride, my boys love it and so do their friends. The weight capacity says 150, but I think we have had more weight on there between my boys and our friends kids who are a little bigger and they would pile two up front and two in the cargo area and ride around. However, that will drain the battery way faster. But we also purchased the super charger battery, it charges the battery in 2 hours compared to the 12-18 hours like the regular charger, that has been worth the money already as we've been able to let the kids play and have it charged up again for more play during bbq's and parties with friends and family. So I would recommend this and to also purchase the quick charger, I got everything from walmarts website. The faster charger is only on their website anyhow, not in stores, at least around my area. I'm happy with my purchase.
Fun for three year old!
My three year old LOVES this product! Rides it constantly. Battery only lasts for an hour or so though, so needs to be recharged regularly (18 hours)...I would recommend purchasing a second battery. Product is very pricey for what it is, but it has made one little boy VERY happy. The only complaints I would have would be the price, the battery issue and that the packing plastic had melted onto the parts and was quite difficult to remove, making assembly a bear. But after getting it together, it has been nothing but fun for my little guy...
Cute, but not made well.
This is a very cute ride on toy. The wheels have great traction. Unfortunately, after only 5 months of use, multiple things have broken. The tailgate broke off, the steering wheel keeps coming off and the wiring to the back wheels keep coming loose. It is cute but it is peg Perego definitely cuts corners in the manufacturing. Our power wheels is still going strong with zero issues many years later. And the company will not replace almost anything without you paying again.
Great toy!
This has been an awesome vehicle for our grandkids, they have loved either riding in it or driving it all over our property from age 1-9. It has held up really well over the past couple years…. I had bought an extra battery but even with driving it on and off all day we never had to switch them out. One of the batteries recently went completely dead, but as much use as it’s gotten I can’t complain! Well worth the $$
Go Gator Go
We have had the gator for 2 weeks now and it is a hit with everyone. Very easy for small children to use. Takes about 45 minutes to assemble (including the stickers). The parts were all manufactured well and fit as they should. Note: this ride on toy is fairly large, so have somewhere to park it once assembled. When picking it up form the store bring a truck. The box it comes in is huge. Rated it four (4) stars for this primary reason: there is no power or kill switch of any kind. My little guy jumps on it all of the time and just takes off, even when just sitting in it playing. This happened inside the house immediately after assembly... It needs a switch or key for parental control. Currently we keep the battery disconnect until we are supervised and ready to ride. We are interested to see how it holds up to regular use and abuse when all of his buddies are around.
Worked for 1 hour!
I bought this for my sons birthday on 4-3-17. Had the store assemble it. Brought it home 4-4-17. Charged till the charge light was green indicating full. Kids rode it for one hour. Charged over night. Would not work in morning. They are very disappointed. Have to bring it back to the store to try and exchange it for another. If the second one does the same thing I will just get my money back. This is way to expensive to be such junk!
Not Overly Impressed
Granted, we have only had this a couple of days, but from what I can tell thus far, it is not super fabulous. This is our first time owning a Power Wheels type of vehicle, so maybe I should not be writing a review, but I just expected more out of it. Our yard is generally flat without hills, but is not super smooth if that makes sense. My 4 year old has a difficult time getting over certain minor "humps" in our yard when it seems as something like this should be easily able to make it. The overall appearance of it is cute. It seems cheaply made though and for $400+ it just seems as though it should be a bit better quality. I feel like if my kids run into something (which is bound to happen the minute I take my eye off of them - my daughter is still learning how to drive it), it will crack. It is difficult to find a solid place for an adult to grip if they want to move it or adjust it if the kiddos get stuck some place. The age rating on it does not seem appropriate. My it is probably ideal for my 4 year old, but I cannot imagine her being able to fit in this at age 7. She is average size for her age - not taller nor heavier. I think she might be able to use it next summer and MAYBE squeeze into it as she is turning 6, but that will be pushing it. Perhaps I will have to come back and adjust my review as we use it more, but this is my observation so far. I just feel like for $400+, we should have received more for our money. The wild thing is, after reading numerous reviews, this Power Wheels like ride on was one of the top rated. Hmmm. We will see.
Wheels are horrible!
I bought this for my kids for Christmas they loved it! By the time it got warm enough to ride it, they only got to use it for maybe 2 months and the wheels starting cracking and falling apart now they can't ride it till I buy new wheels! I can't believe I paid $400 for this and my kids only used it for two months and can't use it anymore till I buy new wheels! Something this expensive should be a little better built! My kids weren't even rough on it at all!!
tires cracked before a year was up
we are just outside of 6 months (out of warranty) and the back wheel cracked... seriously? poor quality. son loves to drive this but I'm not happy with the quality. maybe they should rethink the plastic tires = rubber. it is suppose to be a gator after all...
Fantastic ride for 2!
I bought this for my sons's 2nd birthday, while he is able to touch the pedal he has a hard time pushing the pedal, steering and watching where he is going. No doubt, in a few months I know he will be driving the gator everywhere. My daughter is almost 4 and LOVES to drive her brother around. It drives great on flat roads/grass but struggles a tad to go up hills. They love the back of the gator, they toss their garen tools, babies, snacks, water in the back and go. Its fantastic! I wanted something they both could use and the Gator is perfect! It's so nice to go on a walk and not have to push a dbl stroller.
