Our current ice maker is a replacement for one that stopped making ice and made loud screeching noises. Had it for 11 months so just under the year warranty. Got a replacement. This one now doesn’t make ice. It seems as if it’s having an issue with the add water function. There is water in the tank and no air bubbles in the line. Sounds like the motor is about to burn out when it tries to make ice. We sanitize and descale on a regular basis.

My wife loves this thing. The ice it makes is great. Makes ice quickly and doesn't take up a ton of counter space. It's fairly easy to clean, but time consuming. Holds enough ice and water to keep it stocked for gatherings or everyday use. Now the bad. This thing started to howl, moan, and growl about a month after owning it. It sounds like someone was killing an animal in our laundry room. We have to unplug it to make the sound stop. It'll be fine for a day or two or three and then it comes back. GE, WHY CAN'T YOU MAKE STUFF THAT WORKS ANYMORE!!! Just about every GE appliance we have has some sort of an issue. I knew going into this that we'd have issues from all the bad reviews, yet I still purchased the dang thing.

Badly engineered and WILL EAT Itself. I've had TWO of these OPAL 2 Disasters. I just returned the SECOND ONE and will no longer purchase GE Profile APPLIANCES ( I had an Advantium 220 speed cooker and a Profile Refrigerator - the fridge couldn't make ice either!

We love the ice from this machine. The first one was quieter but only lasted for 2 years. That being said, we used RO water in the first one. We have a softening system and high quality RO. Living in AZ the water is super hard even with this in place. So was agreed this one would only get distilled water. It is cumbersome to clean and descale but the quality of the ice is amazing! Hopefully this one will last longer.

Excellent product - friends and family all enjoy nugget ice it generates vice chunks of freezer ice. I especially like it to chill bourbon as the surface exposure of the nuggets in liquid rapidly cool down any drink. Very easy to assemble. Plenty of capacity - we never seem to run out of ice. The ice maker itself easy fits on our pantry shelf. Sleek, attractive appearance.

The new Opal is faster, quieter and slimmer than the origional. There is virtually no noise unless the water is low (which is a good thing). Easy to clean and connects to Wifi for alerts

The icemaker is very nice and silent, you can't tell the system is on. The equipment and accessories are very high quality. The stainless steel matched the rest of my GE kitchen.

I have been using my new GE Opal 2.0 Nugget Icemaker for about a week. It works beautifully and I love the chewable ice. The sound produced by the unit is quite soft and unobtrusive. I am delighted!

Super easy set up and easy to clean as well! It is life changing to have this convenience, I wish I would have bought this sooner. PRO TIP: only use distilled water !!!

This ice maker is really nice. Its a total workhorse at making ice and its realy fast. The ice is chewable and great for putting in any drink. Would make Youkon Cornelius proud!
