Turbo Tax Could Still be Better

Since I knew I didn't have enough expenses to itemize, I skipped that section. When it came to listing Long Term Care and medical insurance under Business Expenses, there was no way I could do it. I finally realized that I had to enter them under itemized deductions first. This just created extra work on my part.

State Tax is Never Correct

The Alabama state tax computation never seems to be accurate. I have to do a detail review every year and figure out how to fix. This year it did not handle our Roth conversions correctly. It was adding them to the 1099-R resulting in double taxing.

Needs better instructions with error fixing

Turbo Tax Home & Business does a good job at helping you to not miss deductions and filling the information in the correct place. The reason for 4 stars is because every year there is an issue with entries that need to be entered or changed. TT finds the issues and puts the actual return itself on the screen, but what to enter in is often not clear so you must go back to the TT input questions and go over each section one by each to figure out what the problem is and what to change to fix the problem. It would be better if TT would supply a link to the section involved. I had entered a 179 deduction with no deduction amount because I was not sure what that figure should and needed to looked it up. Then realized I should not use it, but did not delete the entries which had no amount entered. 2 days later when I finished the return and attempted to file it, the mistake was picked up, but i took me an hour to fix that and one more mistake.

TurboTax, you have done better in the past

I have used TurboTax for over 20yrs now. This year's version is the worst I've ever encountered. Multiple coding issues. Nothing that affected accuracy. Just causing more work than needed. For instance, after entering in a 1099-R (retirement) form, although I had answered NO to a Canadian Pension, it still opened the form and insisted on required fields. I had to back out and delete the form to proceed. (I know it wasn’t a mistype on my part, as it occurred twice, once when I did a joint return and again when checking to see if MFS would make our tax situation better.) I also live in a RITA local city, thus required to file a local tax form. Prior to this year, TurboTax did not automatically fill in the form, which is perfectly fine, as you can enter your tax information directly on the RITA site for e-filing. But since many documents do not populate local tax information, TurboTax had issues with those empty fields. Again, lots of unnecessary work on my part. Please, Intuit… get better coders (and better-quality control). Maybe ones not overly reliant on AI for their work.

Not Working As Well As It Used To

Turbotax H&B is not working as well as it has in the past. Importing from my brokerage failed this year, which was a first in the decades that I've used Turbotax (I had to take the manual entry route). That alone is making me consider alternatives for next year. Also, I had to go into the manual form mode in order to get around a 1099 bug - again, an all-time first. Finally, the state e-fing fee of $25 is bogus.

A Real Horror

Did you ever see the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers? Where the Donald Sutherland character is running down the highway at the end telling traffic to turn back and to not enter his city? Well, if you're new to tax preparation software, my advice is: TURN BACK! Because once you start with Turbo Tax--oh, you'll curse at it all the way through it, of course, but the following year you'll forget, the memory will soften, and you'll purchase again. Then you'll get aggravated to high heaven again. But you'll soften the following year. And so forth. The thing is, tax preparation can be so gut wrenching it's hard to separate one aggravator from another. But trust me. I've seen THIS movie more times than I can count--it's not just the IRS. Unless you are an absolute trusting fool, Turbo Tax makes it worse... TURN BACK now!

Home and Business i

Home and Business has worked flawlessly for many years. This year I had a problem with a message saying, "Hmm, looks like we've hit a snag". "We recommend you revisit last topic.......". It was a bit stressful, but I called Customer support 888-777-4160 and got help right away. Catherine, listened to my issue, viewed my computer remotely, and suggested to shut the program down and reboot. It worked.!!! No further glitches. I have never had an issue in the MANY years of using TurboTax. I was VERY pleased customer support was easily available. Keep up serving the public with a "Live Person" to talk to.

A good tool, but it takes some time to use.

Overall process and use worked well, as usual. I found the import process results to be confusing as presented on the screen. I ultimately figured it out, but not before TurboTax counted some entries twice due to my misinterpretation of the dat and the instructions.

'25 Return was Fine

I appreciate the carry forward of repetitive information from year to year. It does make it easier when not to go hunting for previous information. It is also helpful to have the comparison inputs from the previous year to make sure inputs are not overlooked.

We love hearing that the process felt effortless for you. Taxes are complicated enough, so we’ve designed our interface to take the guesswork out of every step.

Charitable contributions section inferior to past

bring back Its deductible . This version of the charitable deductions took a lot of extra typing and mouse clicks. very ineffiencent. The past programming was superior. AI generated topics skipped key questions that were hard to find later for more complicated taxes
