Not the good old faithful Turbo Tax of yesteryear.

I have used Turbo tax for nearly two decades. This is the first year has been the horrible. First, it pushes one to use the online version. You have to search to get to the desktop version. It offers a download. Nothing about cost. You do the download and it wants the license number from your purchase; only, there was no purchase. Looking for pricing provided nothing for desktop version. Purchased that elsewhere. Online version merely gives you a price range and a statement that you don't have to pay anything until you file. I am not a) putting my tax information on their server knowingly and 2) complete the whole process without knowing up front how much it is going to cost me. I am not fond of sticker shock. This is the first year Turbo Tax has felt more like a scam than a legitimate company. Stop trying to push/force us to do our taxes "online." I am strongly considering another tax process next year.

TurboTax is getting more and more disappointing

Very late rental depreciation release with inaccurate update schedules and poor communication. Update release notes were discontinued several years ago for some unknown reason, making it difficult to know what is being updated any given time. Why was this discontinued? You know what is being updated, so just share that with users so I don't have to recheck everything. The questionnaire for WA state tax filing needs to be updated to screen WHETHER or not you NEED to file BEFORE you install WA state. The only way around this is to click "do it later", which implies it is REQUIRED. It is not, in most cases. But you have you use your free state to find out you don't need to file, which doesn't make sense. I need to use the free state for a non-resident tax filing in OR--not waste it telling me I don't need to file in WA. Seems like Turbo Tax is more interested in selling upgrades instead of fixing bugs. I see no results from provided feedback.

Love it, but with mixed frustration

I've used TurboTax for many years (probably top 5% of all your user base) and I love the product and have always found it useful and relatively intuitive. However this year (and I think last as well), I became extremely frustrated with having to enter information in my state tax return that should have been known by TurboTax. This created a lot of additional time flipping back to my 2024 return (128 pgs) looking for info and hoping I got it right. Yes, I know this is the 2024 return, but you accessed this return in order to populate my 2025 return in the beginning - so yes, you do have access to this information.

Turbotax took a deep dive this year

Turbo tax has really lost points with me this year. They have focused so much on their online business that they cannot service their downloaded form. So many issues including poor logic, loops in requesting information that has already been input, items that don't even follow the tax code. I have a few very small clients and I went to e-file with them in the room and when we go to send in their state tax return, we were charged an additional $40 refund processing fee. I didn't know that TT was getting into the loan shark business. Some of the features don't even work and you have to work around it to input them. Wow, what a disappointment this year. Even typing this review is glitchy.

Need to make sure State tax programs are working

I have been using Turbo Tax since it was first offered (1980's). There have been hiccups at times, but overall I found it a great tool. However, this year somehow the MA NR/PY return showed that I had made estimated payments to the state. I tried everything I could to fix that, and had to talk to an expert (Quatrella). She did her best, but the final result was that I have to file my MA NR/PY return for 2025 either by mailing it in or using the Mass TaxConnect software. I'll be shopping around for something else. Worked well for Federal.

Turbot Tax-pain in the butt

I have used turbo tax for years. It is becoming more and more a pain in the butt to just get the return to print. I still have not got it to print but have saved it as pdf. Also, why am I paying for a state filing fee when you package says that one state return is free????

Turbo tax is easy to use

I would have liked to upload a pdf copy of all my tax docs and let the program enter all the info from those docs. I had to enter many of them manually. And if there was an area to upload all of my documents, I couldn't find it. Other than that, it was a great service.

"Review" section functionalities NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

I've been using Turbo Tax for years and have not seen any improvements with features when entry errors are identified. It does not explain well why the error, how to fix entries and offer "specialized consultation service" to address specific or unique tax situations. I wasted over 2hrs circling around the application with a unique tax issue but was not able to override the corrections.

watch the extra fees add up!

Too much pushing for extra costs. Have to repeatedly decline paying extra for services I don't want. The e-filing cost is deceptive. Make it sound line just $15 for state but after agreeing we find there is an extra $40 (?) "filing fee" in addition to what was already stated. Those fees are not printed when I print the tax package and I can see where I can get to them. No receipt!

TurboTax hidden fees

Positive: TurboTax is incredibly user-friendly and excels at identifying maximum deductions with minimal effort. I appreciated the step-by-step guidance through various tax topics, which made the process feel thorough and manageable. Negative: I was disappointed by an undisclosed third-party fee required to receive two of my federal returns; this lack of transparency is a dealbreaker that may lead me to switch providers for 2026. Additionally, the desktop version requires lengthy updates every time the app is opened, sometimes taking up to 10 minutes, which is a significant hit to productivity.
