I would rate this a -5 if you let me. The software was terrible this year. - Bank integration did not work, foreign tax credit not working properly, buggy software that needed reboots. - Solo 401K tax credit was NOT recognized by the UI and needed to enter manually via Forms mode.

This year it was easy to use TurboTax, just like it has been in the past. As I was entering the information, the dashboard was showing a tax amount that I did not think was correct. Later I saved a copy of the forms, and then I could see the details behind that tax amount, and it was all correct. Unfortunately, TurboTax has followed Microsoft to declare that Windows 10 must not be used. That is such nonsense, because Windows 10 still works just fine. I noticed that the H-R Block software can be used on Windows 10, and for that reason I did consider switching, but finally decided to stay with TurboTax. It is getting hard to find TurboTax in a local store, and I had to ask for it.

Mostly a good product, but each year there's one bug or another that sucks up all my time. It's not clear how to report the bug, and every year the options change about how to get a call-back for tech support. This year's desktop version replaced the "search" function with a useless robot... so, for example, if you wanted info on a particular form, you used to be able to type the form number into search. Now if you do that, a robot tells you that it doesn't know what you're talking about but wouldn't you rather read a bunch of forum posts on completely different things. The product is always so close but yet so far...

I'm not sure whether this was a compatibility issue, but the software felt glitchy at times. The biggest frustration was the user experience. I had to switch between Forms view and EasyStep multiple times because the explanations for certain errors or corrections were not always clear. Then, when I switched back, it did not always return me to where I left off, so I ended up repeating steps I had already done. That got annoying fast. Another issue was the constant feeling of being upsold. For software I already paid for, there were still too many prompts for extra-cost features and services. It made the experience feel more like I was being nickel-and-dimed than simply using a product I had already bought. My spouse also mentioned how often the software seemed to need updates and questioned why there were so many. That said, it still gets the job done, and overall I would call it an okay tool for doing taxes. I just expected a smoother and more straightforward experience for the price.

Generally good. I've been using it for years. But one issue is still murky - the entry of the IP PIN numbers. It should be clearer that if one needs to (has to) enter the IRS's IP PIN codes, it has to be done differently than in the 5-digit passcode fields. It's a shame that that (actually critical) detail, which caused rejection of the forms is not handled better.

I feel some of the enhances you have made makes it harder to enter certain items at times. I understand you are designed for user who need your strict guidance to enter things correctly. As a professional I find this to be a block to entering slightly unusual items/

My overall experience with Intuit has been less than great. Too many sales phone calls when I even asked last fall to not make sales calls to me. Then there are all the offers made (up selling) while preparing the return. And that is not saying anything about only being directed by search engines to only the internet version of Turbo Tax when what I wanted was a desktop version.

I don't understand why TurboTax doesn't provide much assistance in determining some federal and state differences, for example different amounts for CA capital loss carryover. This subject is a big mystery to me, but I would assume TT designers know how to ask for pertinent data to determine the correct entry.

I do feel that TurboTax does a great job on taxes, however the latest update has pink/red emergency markers on every page now until you put in an answer. Doing taxes is stressful and this update DOES NOT HELP ease my anxiety AT ALL. In fact, I am more stressed about doing taxes than ever. The reason I have used TT every year is because it helps me to feel reassured that I am not missing anything and it explains things in easy to understand ways. It was consoling. Not ANYMORE. It is stressful and anxiety inducing with all the emergency red explanation points on every page. It reminds me of the symbol that shows up on your car dash when something serious it happening and you need to find a mechanic quickly. The red is overkill. Please make it go away or al least provide an option to turn it off. I need my TT to help comfort me not stress me out. Additionally, this has been a separate issue for years: I can't see the small text in the help boxes without using a magnifier because there is no way to increase the text size. This is annoying and not helpful for people who have failing vision.

TT had yet one more bug this year on form 8829 when you have two businesses sharing the same home office. It was incorrectly adding together the RE Taxes and trying to limit it to $40k Salt Deduction despite the amount being below $40K as TT is adding it together even though the boxes on sharing the home office was correctly checked between the two businesses, Give that 2024 had a lower $10K SALT limit this new edit check makes no sense. As it only is applying the portion of the home office that was split. This cost me 10 hours to troubleshoot and do my own work around to address. I also found a bug in 2024 related to NYS Tuition Deduction that it was picking up incorrectly off the federal form and incorrectly giving me a credit which I do not get as out of state non resident which also was not resolved and had to do a work around that also took hours.
