Online vs Desktop & K1/K3 Issues

I tried on-line turbo tax this year and will not try again. I went back to desktop to finish. Several Reasons: 1) I do my daughter's taxes too, and I could not set up two files on-line 2) I have a K1/K3 in my taxes and could not get the on-line to clear an error without access to the forms. I can only access the forms with the desktop software. In addition, the K1/K3 entry is poor on both versions. I enter all the information asked for, yet still have missing entry information in the error check step that can only be answered in the form mode. This has happened every year. The software should ask you for the information if it is needed during the data entry phase.

Difficult to initiate

Had to call help line to get program loaded properly. Agent was actually ready to terminate call when solution to my issue was hampered by his inability facilitate screen share. I asked for senior agent help and was told there was no further help. Luckily I was able to see a way to get the install running.

TurboTax is getting harder to use

TurboTax has become noticeably more difficult to use over time. The explanations provided through its help links are often convoluted and unclear, making it unnecessarily hard and time-consuming to complete my taxes. Multiple times I had to rely on external tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to get straightforward answers—and those tools consistently delivered clearer and more useful explanations. It's frustrating that Intuit appears more focused on promoting additional paid support services than on improving the core usability of the product. Users should not need outside resources to complete a tax return with confidence. Intuit should prioritize simplifying the interface and providing clear, accessible explanations within the software itself.

TurboTax Improvements for IRAs, Pensions & Annuiti

I have used TurboTax for as long as it has existed. An improvement would be to show the details for the source of 4a, 4b, 5a and 5b. The 4a & 4b IRA deductions include IRAs, (Qualified) annuities and QLACs Annuites. Lines 5a and 5b include Pensions and (Non Qualified) Annuities. You show the sources for 4a, 4b,5a and 5b all lumped together. Can you not separate the sources for 4a,4b and 5a,5b? Also, see using last year's program to estimate the estimated Tax for the current year in the review below. When there are a lot of sources for each, you have to hand calculate to check the items.

A few things could be improved

I've been using TurboTax for decades. A couple of things * Form 1116 handling. There should be better help for this in the app. In particular, and explanation of "Various" and "RIC". Once you decide I need to work with foreign investments, you should brief me on what to do with Form 1116. It's a bit of a black hole now. It's the reason why I shell out for the "Premium" version * On-line submission failures You keep telling me that the problem is with my AGI number from last year (even though you filled it in, and even though it's the same number for both of us (but you say only one is wrong). I've mailed in the return, but in retrospect, I'm pretty sure it's the PIN. You should guide me to getting new pins. * This form (in particular, this field on this form) You seem to be continually parsing the contents of this field to update "AI-Generated Review Topics". When you decide to update the "Topics", focus leaves this form momentarily and you occasionally miss what I'm typing (or worse - moves focus to the end of the field as I type). It is *very* frustrating. Did you not test this feature?

Okay, but cumbersome

No matter how many ways I tried, TT would NOT load last year's information into the 2025 software. I had to re-enter everything manually, which made me very unhappy. If next year's software does not address this issue, I will no longer use TT. A primary selling point is that you CAN upload the previous year, both to save time and to facilitate comparisons.

TurboTax is Okay

used to be better. Didn't seem to retain as many of my prior year answers Foreign tax is a nightmare, and your instructions don't really help. Had to rely on the old "make new 1099 Divs" for each country, and do all the footing. Would be nice if the program helped with that.

TurboTax doing taxes

This is why I am not very happy with TurboTax. Very much annoying questions concerning a survey and if I got support from them. I think things were accurate and it was not too bad. Plenty of features with the new tax laws. Good interface with imports and such. Seems compatible with all. This is very annoying that we hav o ove all this stuff for your silly survey.

Data input issue: Box 16a of CSA-1099-R

The process went well until I was ready to file and hit a snag that should have been fixed by now. I have a 1099-R from the OPM. When going through the review, I'm told I have to enter the State Distribution (box 16a) in Turbotax. The CSA-1099-R from OPM does not have a box 16a. Here's link to the solution: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/i-have-a-1099-r-from-the-opm-when-going-through-the-review-i-m-told-i-have-to-enter-the-state/00/3542212

TERRIBLE experience !!!

TERRIBLE experience. Ridiculously cumbersome to suffer thru. Need to go thru endless screens to get where need to be. MANY questions asked are so confusing it's nearly impossible to try to select the right answer. Needed to exit and enter program numerous times before it recognized that state return had not yet been done. Sleazy that advertising says includes state but then need to pay to file.
