Poor Product

Had trouble with importing data from brokerage / bank. Caused a big headache since I had to enter everything manually, took a very long time. Had a few problems last year but this year was much worse. Worked great 2 years ago. Looks lke the product is getting harder to use not easier. Very disappointed. Will likely look at other options next year. I will not use your online service or your other services since this experience was so bad.

TurboTax pushes People to Use Online / Time Waste

I only keep my tax returns on portable memory devices and delete the files from my computer for security reasons. Because I tried to use the protocol that has worked in the past, I struggled to import my data from my last year's return which was also prepared using TurboTax Premier. I had to go online and do a search in order to learn how to do that, and later it failed totally. This year I experienced problems with data entry for Form 1116 [Foreign Taxes Credit]. The Problem is due to TurboTax when in Step-by-Step mode immediately eliminating any further access to data for different countries after entry of data for the first country selected by the user. Also, the order in which that data must be entered to keep the program "happy" is very important. Eventually I gave up after wasting a few hours trying different methods of data entry and entered the data manually on the Form 1116 and its associated worksheets. Also, this year's software would not allow me to import last year's return despite it being prepared using the 2024 version of TurboTax Premier Desktop for Macbook. The first installation of the 2025 software worked to import my last year's return, but thereafter crashed and froze up my computer. That resulted in multiple hours online with TurboTax support without any success. She clearly was guessing and did not know how Apple computers work or even that a 5GHz broadband connection was a broadband connection. She wasted much of my time. I eventually solved my problem by deleting everything from that software and my tax return and then starting all over with a freshly downloaded installation... which would not allow me to import my last year's return. Which meant that I had to manually enter everything. Another huge fault and waste of time.

More complicated that 2024

More complicated this year than last. Many more questions to answer with less clarity. Depth of explanations were shallow. Should have been easier with new tax changes from BBB, but not as straightforward as before. Had to dig out information to gain complete information on what was being required.

TurboTAX Premier needs improvement with ESPP Sales

I was forced to upgrade form Deluxe to Premier to handle the sale of ESPP shares (Employee Stock Purchase Plan) as Turbotax did not disclose that the Deluxe Edition would not have the required forms, it only said that Premier would offer extra help. After paying the upgrade charge, Turbotax Premier was extremely clunky and almost impossible to work with regarding the handling of the Compensation Income. The program interface would not allow me to input that the Compensation Income was not included in my W-2, attempting to correct this in both the Forms and interview mode. Eventually I had to delete all the information and re-do it, going through a very exact non-intuitive interview process that would have specific answers trigger the question regarding the Compensation Income. Researching Forums, this is issue has apparently been going on for years without TurboTAX addressing the issue.

Forms view needs better UI

1) In the forms view, e.g. looking at the 1040, I click on a box to see where the amount came from, and it takes me to a long worksheet with no indication of where among the hundreds of lines is the one pertinent to the box I clicked on, 2) While going through the filing process, I have to enter the routing number and account number four times each. I understand the need for security and checking for typos, but couldn't there but a button on the state setup that says to use the numbers I just entered for the federal?

Download tax info problem

Turbo Tax could not download my tax info from Vanguard, even though it said it was successfully downloaded. Tried multiple times. Finally discovered it worked with CHROME as the default browser, but not EDGE. First time that happened since I started using TT many years ago.

2025, A Bad Year for User Interface

I've used TurboTax for years and the 2025 version was atrocious. We have rental property. Walking through the sale of rental property was poorly designed. You need to clearly differentiate between a rental "property" and other types of rental assets. It took me about 4 hours to determine how to accurately enter the sale of the property. Also, on the window size for entering credit card payment for the state e-file fee would only display months 1 through 8. There was no ability to scroll to select months 10-12, or to resize the window.

Turbo Tax is Excellent!

Overall Turbo Tax explained each requirement in a manner that I understood. Details were sufficient to understand and execute the requirements. It pulled in the information required from my financial institution quickly and completely. While I didn't feel I needed a live persons help, my questions and concerns were answered sufficiently through the topics available online.

My return was rejected

When I got ready to eFile my federal return, TurboTax filled in a pin for me and my wife. The one for me was incorrect.. As a result my return was rejected. TurboTax should have walked me through the process of locating the correct pin before eFiling the return. I needed to log into my IRS account and find my new Identity Protection Pin. It did the same thing to me last year. I figured they fixed that but they did not. Other than that the process was pretty smooth. Improved somewhat.

The good, bad, and ugly

The good: The download process is very cumbersome still, but getting slightly better. Intuit finally figured out how to eFile IL state when return has high impact zone using form IL 1299C and Schedule M. Thank you for this after many many years of having to mail my form in and call support to get a refund for my state filing fee cause it was ineligible for efile after they collected my cc info. This took usually at least 30 minutes of my time to get to the right person, then waited a week for my actual credit. The bad: TurboTax still does not transfer relevant info from one from previous year, or from one form to another, so you need to re-enter it multiple times (bank info, DL number, property tax PIN ID,, etc. If it was on last years return and you answer "NO" when asked if you moved, as an example, they should carry that info forward and ask a confirmation instead of making you reenter it from scratch. They also do not fill out all the line items on key information worksheets so you now understand how they came up with calculation. Some of their explanations when you click on the i icon to learn more provide no additional useful information. The ugly: Still too much scrolling and mouse movement needed when navigating from top to bottom or to next screen. Also the AI interface, even in this survey keeps changing the words that I type as it is trying to predict what I want to say (and it is not spell check either).
