TT Federal is Awesome, State-level not so much

Experience is very good, and improves each year - with the inclusion of more links to instructions for unusual circumstances. I know it may not be fully in your control, but I do find the explanations for accurately completing the state-level tax returns (mine is CT) is still lacking. I have to download and read the state's published instructions, as a lot of the "questions" posed by the software don't have explanations that clearly identify what should/should not be included or adjusted on the return.

carryovers from last year

On some screens, I'm instructed to "check last year's return" for an amount. Well, I have always utilized TurboTax, so you should be able to tell me what that "last year's return" amount was. Sometimes you do, but not always. FOR EXAMPLE: You should be able to tell me the amount of the charitable contributions carryover from last year.

Typical modern enshittified software

The TurboTax experience was about as annoying as usual. This year required dealing with upgrading to Windows 11, it's own nightmare. Then, as usual the software required constant updates, and in fact required one right as I was filing. Necessitating an additional review of the tax return. And now this survey can't seem to keep up with my typing, so I have to deliberately slow down so that it doesn't reverse or skip keys.

TurboTax pushes People to Use Online / Time Waste

I only keep my tax returns on portable memory devices and delete the files from my computer for security reasons. Because I tried to use the protocol that has worked in the past, I struggled to import my data from my last year's return which was also prepared using TurboTax Premier. I had to go online and do a search in order to learn how to do that, and later it failed totally. This year I experienced problems with data entry for Form 1116 [Foreign Taxes Credit]. The Problem is due to TurboTax when in Step-by-Step mode immediately eliminating any further access to data for different countries after entry of data for the first country selected by the user. Also, the order in which that data must be entered to keep the program "happy" is very important. Eventually I gave up after wasting a few hours trying different methods of data entry and entered the data manually on the Form 1116 and its associated worksheets. Also, this year's software would not allow me to import last year's return despite it being prepared using the 2024 version of TurboTax Premier Desktop for Macbook. The first installation of the 2025 software worked to import my last year's return, but thereafter crashed and froze up my computer. That resulted in multiple hours online with TurboTax support without any success. She clearly was guessing and did not know how Apple computers work or even that a 5GHz broadband connection was a broadband connection. She wasted much of my time. I eventually solved my problem by deleting everything from that software and my tax return and then starting all over with a freshly downloaded installation... which would not allow me to import my last year's return. Which meant that I had to manually enter everything. Another huge fault and waste of time.

Not that happy either

Not that happy

My only complaint this year (and last) was that often this year trying to do something in TT, the software would try to take me to my Intuit Account, don't think I have one. / nor could you find one, and then I would get stuck as the intuit program locked me into finding other ways to HAVE TO log in. Had to just Force Quit TT, lost some work one time. Shouldn't make you feel that you are going to fall into a "trap" and lose work... Same problem last year. The other complaint is why do you make it so hard to find the desktop version?

Terrible software; do not buy

Terrible. Topics are not arranged intuitively, nor is the walk through complete. If I didn't already know I had to file certain things, I would have missed them by walking through this topic. Also, there are so few links for clarification or to see what the actual form is, a feature that was available on every screen of my last software. If I wasn't sure of the answer to a question, I had to separately go to the internet, try to figure out which schedule we were on, and then look through it for the correct line and read the line instructions. Now to add insult to injury, this AI tomfoolery review box is changing my correctly spelled words into nonsense as I type. 0 stars, would not recommend to a friend.

Cannot E-file state

Again, this year, it would not let me e-file the state tax return. It kept saying we run into a snag and would not go any further. Wasted 4 hours on the phone and nothing worked. Last year there was an option to pay by phone, but that option was not available this year. So, I had to print and mail my state taxes. Sad that this company has fallen down to the point where their software does not work.

TurboTax makes taxes much easier.

Overall I like using TurboTax and how it walks you thru income and tax categories. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it kept creating an error 2 years in a row on a W-2 import of a US based company wanting a selection of which foreign country it was from. The returns couldn't process until I deleted the import and manually entered the information instead.

Federal Great. Ohio doesn't work.

Federal Worked great. Ohio return didn't work. Didn't forward the Exempt-Dividends to the line on the Ohio Return. Worked for hours trying to fix. Would not work. Worked fine for 2023 and 2024. Now I have to do the Ohio return in their system. Like your product but Ohio didn't work this year.

Overall it's OK.

Overall it's OK. The interface has gotten a little bit more awkward this year. I find it really annoying that I cannot easily find and separate mine and my spouse's various W2 and 1099 and other forms. That information is mysteriously buried which I find very annoying when I'm manually entering or importing the information. The W2 auto fill laughably fails every year when providing it a perfect PDF of the W2 forms. You also leave old $0 1099 forms around that I have to manually delete. When importing 1099 forms you don't check the TIN so amounts that do not belong on my tax return are silently included that I need to manually remove. Finally, I find it more than a little annoying that the audit defense that is bundled in with Turbotax is just a 1 year service that expires by next April 15th and not the proper statute of limitations expiration service. Also, this ridiculous business of requiring the latest version of Windows in order to use your software. I don't know what your game is, I don't know what the back end benefit is that you get, but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to prevent the installation of Turbotax on a Windows 10 system!
