I encountered an issue in TurboTax (Premier Desktop) related to reporting a corrected Roth IRA excess contribution. Scenario: In December 2025, I contributed $7,500 to a Roth IRA. In February 2026, I determined that my modified adjusted gross income exceeded the allowable limit. Based on IRS guidance, I promptly withdrew the full $7,500 contribution along with associated earnings prior to the tax filing deadline. When entering this information in TurboTax, the software recognized the contribution but did not prompt me at any point to indicate that the excess contribution had been withdrawn before the deadline. As a result, TurboTax calculated a 6% excess contribution penalty (approximately $450), which should not apply in this situation. Only after extensive research and reviewing IRS Form 5329 instructions—specifically the guidance stating “Enter the excess… (unless withdrawn—discussed below)”—did I realize that the withdrawal needed to be reflected differently in the software. I ultimately had to resolve this outside of the standard TurboTax interview flow. A simple prompt such as: “Did you withdraw the excess contribution and earnings before the tax filing deadline?” would have prevented significant confusion and time spent troubleshooting. I have used TurboTax for many years and have generally found it reliable, which made this experience particularly frustrating. It also raises concern about whether similar situations may have been handled incorrectly in prior years without clear user guidance.

I've been using the TurboTax for so many years, but this year's TurboTax has so many defects or bugs, It's not friendly at all. Lots of pages indicated has Edit, Review, Delete, but there is no button or options to do so. I don't like this at all. When transferred from previous Tax return, some fields are miss matching. When deleted one Student dependent, then the next none student dependent will replace the deleted student dependent. It's so bad. Also took me so many hours to resolve different kinds of issues.

There was no ability to enter a person who can discuss this return with the IRS if needed. That should be a question Turbo Tax asks, in case the preparation of the return was assisted by a relative. In my case, preparation was for an elderly parent who needs someone who can answer questions from the IRS, should they ask.

The section on Roth conversions was way too confusing, especially having to go back years to see when Roth conversions were done and for calculating the basis. The questions were very generic and no definitions provided on Traditional vs Rollover and when to include which accounts.

You miscalculated the Georgia 2025 SALT Tax Limitation. I went from a $1000 refund to owing over $600. It took you until 3/24 to notify me of this change as well. The $30 filing fee reimbursement is a nice gesture, but not enough considering I now have to adjust for covering a large portion of money I wasn't planning on paying - since I trusted your software and planned accordingly

TurboTax was a much better product years ago. The Help and Search features were better. For example, I searched Help for where to find the amounts of estimated tax to pay for 2026. I followed the directions to find the correct section. But the directions said to search for the phrase WHICH BROUGHT ME BACK TO THE SAME LIST OF INSTRUCTIONS. Also, we used to be able to hop from the step-by-step to the forms and be on the corresponding line. Now it just goes to the form and I have to search for the correct line.

Very disappointed in turbo tax - they double charged me for my return - i received a charge last fall that i thought would cover the online version of turbo tax. Online version did not work for my situation and i was charged again for the desktop version. Also, i has a unique tax situation that turbo tax was not helpful for. I used AI instead and AI actually told me how to enter the information into turbo tax. Very Very disappointed and i will not use in the future

Everything was great until I got to Foreign Tax Credit. Your instructions were a little to brief. You mentioned that their was 3 ways to handle it and you only gave instruction on 2. Trhe missing one was what to do when the total tax was less than $600.

I was unable to import anything. I kept coming to the screen about a popup. You didn't give any help on this to tell me what to do. Then when I was entering the information I got an error. You didn't give any help on this. I had to go to ChatGPT to find out the aborted import created blank files I needed to delete. You let us chose specific forms for printing but then print everything. This has happened for years. I keep notes on how to proceed on turbotax but then you change everything each year. And after leaving this page to check the spelling of a word when I came back everything was gone.

problem with your software is it sometimes pulls stuff out of thin air and acts strangely. example: while going through my income it suddenly came up with wanting to declare my Canadian pension income. it's never asked that before and I've used turbo tax for years. besides I've never worked or did anything in Canada. But after adjustments it gets the job done.
