data entry

changes to software this year make manual entries for interest and dividends very cumbersome. Entries should be separate. Always returns you to top of list. Import screen is always first. there should be fewer "clicks" to make manual entries. Even deleting an entry from last year that has $0 this year is difficult

Good but with Flaws Needing Correction

I've been a TurboTax user for approximately 20 years and I'd like to suggest two improvements. (1) I'm a single, senior taxpayer with most of my income through dividends and capital gains. I'm frustrated by TurboTax in that I can't actually see how my tax is calculated. The tax is not calculated from a standard table and I've never found a worksheet where you show the calculations. I'm left in the dark about knowing how my tax due was calculated and whether it's accurate. (2) I have never gotten through your foreign tax credit calculation without the final check showing an error. It appears that TurboTax doesn't auto-fill some of the lines in Form 1116, especially 1a and 3a - 3g, for which it already has the information. The definition of some of those lines is obscure, so if you're not going to auto-fill them, you need to provide clearer definitions for the user. I would be happy to speak with any of your people about this. /// Thank you

State Support Sucked

I've been a Turbotax user for as long as it has existed and before when it was Macintax. This is the first time i've been disappointed in the product. I had to fill out a state form by hand that has been around for several months. That should never happen.

Turbo Tax has changed - some steps harder

This year the inputting of data for stocks, dividends and interest was harder. The "Bubbles" were harder to navigate making it necessary to move down the list after entering each set of data. The option to enter data myself was not offered as last year so I had to navigate through the download portion to enter the data myself. As far as stock sales that section was horrible - I couldn't see what I had already entered so I ended up entering stock sales twice!! Offer an option to self-enter data early and keep the option of if the user wishes to do so. I particularly was surprised with the added charge of $40.00 as a download fee. I was told that my first state return would be free but when it came time to submit the state for free I was charged $20.00. Nickle and diming folks after they selected e-filing was not a favorite part of the process. Next year I will file by mailing it myself to avoid these fees!! Other than that, most everything went well as i've otherwise grown to expect out of Turbo Tax.

This has sucked for long enough

Been a loyal user for decades. Software is still solid. e-Filing is a joke ... worse its a fraud. I have attempted to use it almost every year only to have it repeatedly crash out ... always after telling me my return was successfully transmitted. What does Successful mean if 2-days later you tell me it didn't go through and was rejected. If you tend to do that in the stretch like I often find mine, the difference in correctly knowing it failed to go through means penalties and interest in addition to the last minute run for more paper/printer ink and the post-office lines. REALLY NEEDS WORK ... A NEW PROCESS. This has sucked for long enough.

TT is a huge help over filling out form manually.

TT had problems downloading and incorporating the Schwab 1099 composite and it took extra time for me to figure out what was missing and where. it worked much better last year (2024). Also had difficulty adding a depreciation able asset to my rental property.. Additionally i think TT should have done a better job with the Wisconsin tax form. Caused confusion.

Noticed improvements this year.

TurboTax Premier - Desktop had improvements in ease of use this year, particularly with bringing in forms electronically. However, TurboTax initially assumed that getting a federal refund would mean that I would get a state refund and encouraged me to proceed with the state taxes to get it, when instead I owed a fair amount. A minor point, but annoying.

TurboTax makes it easy and super fast!

TurboTax makes it easy and super fast!! (Except for refusing to run on Windows 10. Had to dig into my BIOS to turn on TPM 2.0.) They even download and process every detail from my broker. (It would take me at least a week to go through all that manually!)

Good but poor for complicated rental properties

The EasyStep pathway for entering information for a property that is rented-out part-time and used the owner part-time that also ceased to be a rental property after 10 days in January was terrible. Not only did EasyStep come-up with the wrong entries, it also blocked me from overriding many of them on the forms. It has real issues with depreciation and passive activity losses for properties like mine (admittedly, very specialized). I had fewer problems in other years where I did not cease to rent-out the property but found the questions in EasyStep to NOT lead the proper classification of the assets depreciation schedules and various special treatment options (like Section 179 or Special Depreciation). It would have been nice to be able to force in the depreciation schedule and special treatment options via EasyStep with some kind of override.

TurboTax Must Improve

The interface with the user could use significant improvement. For example, I did not discover what the system requirements for 2025 were until I tried to download after purchasing the software. Why not include SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS on the box— as many software companies do? At the end when customers are filing, saving, printing, the header states HERE'S HOW TO SAVE YOUR FILE. Below that the only link is PRINT RETURN. There is NO SAVE FILE AS PDF link! Nuts!! Most people are sufficiently stressed by the mere act of completing their taxes. Don't add to the stress by forcing people to guess what they need to do for such simple processes as saving the file. Your software is uposedly focused on average people completing their taxes, not technology nerds.
