Stick to Your Knitting

Turbo Tax used to relatively straight forward and direct. Now it seems like every year you are asking/requiring information that is not necessary to do taxes. I don't know who you are gathering information for, the government or to sell to advertisers, but I really object. I am paying you for access to your software. You need to stick to only information needed to calculate taxes.

Problems with the PC version

Normally, I do my Turbo Tax on a Mac but this year my Mac wouldn't accept the O/S update to 14 so I transitioned to my Dell laptop. Not sure if that made a difference, but this year was definitely more difficult than previous years. It didn't ask me about my Social Security so when I was done with the income section, I tried to go back into it but the program wouldn't allow it. I had to wait until I got to the final review and then go back and add it. I tried to use your online help feature but the comments in there were years old. Several other instances caused wasted time as the program seemed to jump around and go back to previous sections. All in all I was disappointed with the functioning of the program and whether or not that had to do with Dell version or not, I guess only you can answer. I still appreciate Turbo Tax but will probably update my Mac for next year. Also when I tried to print the final forms, all it would let me do was create a PDF. Couldn't just hit the print button and get a copy.

State Return Issue

The software package continues to ask me to file my State of Tennessee Income Tax Return, and I have to answer several questions in order to bypass that. Tennessee has not had a State Income Tax in several years, so no State return is available or required.

Request for Improvements to State Return App - MO

My experience with Turbo Tax was pretty good. I have used it for years, so the familiarity helped. I did find that some of the detailed Help pop-ups for the Missouri return contain outdated information. Specifically, there is a pop-up concerning the different tax credits eligible for form MO-TC (Miscellaneous Income Tax Credits) that have outdated eligibility dates and percentages listed in the detailed description. An example of this is for the Pregnancy Resource Center credit. However, I suspect that several other credits have this same issue. Please work with the MO Dept of Revenue to get correct information for this next year. In addition, I would like TurboTax to be modified to e-file MO returns that include form MO-TC. The state is now able to handle e-file with form MO-TC and I believe some of the competitor tax software does this now. Let's get Turbo Tax up to date so that I can continue to rely on it! Doing so will retain customers and generate more state e-filing revenue.

Getting worse each year

The user interface gets worse each year. When it decided there were values that needed to be fixed it did not show any context. Just a shortened name and a box to type something in. It was hard to find the line in context. Changing values that were entered wrong on the first easy time through is very difficult.

Turbo Tax needs better online instructions

I have used TurboTax for many years. I like the software very much except the 2025 version. When I tried to e-file my returns, TurboTax told me that I need to fix an error in the Federal Carryover Worksheet for missing State/Local ID. The instruction for fixing the error is TurboTax on that worksheet is useless. I spent over 2 hours to figure out how to fix the error. I brought additional State return which I did not need to file a return for less than $10000 taxable income from that state. I went over two times of Federal Return to make sure that all input data were correct. Finaly I accidently fix the error on the Carryover worksheet; Now I still have no idea what cause the error

carryovers from last year

On some screens, I'm instructed to "check last year's return" for an amount. Well, I have always utilized TurboTax, so you should be able to tell me what that "last year's return" amount was. Sometimes you do, but not always. FOR EXAMPLE: You should be able to tell me the amount of the charitable contributions carryover from last year.

Good Navigation, but with an Exception

I've used TurboTax for many years and have relied on it to help me file an accurate return. This is the first year that I got to a point where I had no idea why the New Jersey state section was asking me for the previous year's distribution from a pension plan. When I went to the corresponding tax form, I saw the code G from my wife's pension, indicating that a General accounting method was to be used. There was no way to change that G and no way on a menu to go automatically to the source of the G on another form. I finally found that I had answered a question in the federal EasyStep retirement plan section inconsistently for my wife's plan. Fixing that error made the confusing question on the state EasyStep page go away.

TurboTax has some holes.

The inability of TurboTax Premier to distinguish between a Joint Filing or a Married Filing Separately recommendation is a problem. I recognize the difficulty of a definitive recognition-- due to what needs divided between spouses with separate filings -- but at least the program might say something like "We recommend that you consider separate filings due to the incongruity of your spouse individual finances."

Alarming drop in quality

The product was noticeable worse this year than in previous years, with basic flaws and incapacities. For example, in step-by-step mode it was impossible to add supporting details. There were certain line items that appeared, and no way to find where they came from, or links to instructions to understand what was happening. The program is still good, but the rate of degradation is alarming. Apparently you don't even want to take the review, just keep cycling back to this lousy AI-infested interface, that is incompatible with my typing and keeps introducing typos. I'll just add some words support maybe so you'll accept it, shall I?
