The overall impression is that TurboTax doesn't care about improving the user experience and is more intent on extracting more money from its users. Clunky interface. The EasyStep pathway for entering information for a property that is rented-out part-time and used the owner part-time that also ceased to be a rental property after 10 days in January was terrible. Not only did EasyStep come-up with the wrong entries, it also blocked me from overriding many of them on the forms. It has real issues with depreciation and passive activity losses for properties like mine (admittedly, very specialized). I had fewer problems in other years where I did not cease to rent-out the property but found the questions in EasyStep to NOT lead the proper classification of the assets depreciation schedules and various special treatment options (like Section 179 or Special Depreciation). It would have been nice to be able to force in the depreciation schedule and special treatment options via EasyStep with some kind of override.

Annoyances: * Can't paste numbers with leading or trailing spaces - the app should strip them instead of complaining that "you must enter e number" * I receive a shareholder K-1. After saying yes to have that or other forms. Premier tried to start adding a Schedule C for a small business. * Had to go through billing twice, first to add a state then to pay for e-file. This should be done together, and it should offer to fill in billing info from my home address.

When it came time to file taxes, I was unable to do so because all of my credit cards had an expiration month after August. The user interface would not allow me to enter any month beyond 8. I used help and followed the recommendation, but they did not solve the problem. I find it unacceptable that a product has such a blatant bug that will not allow certain credit cards. I ended up using a reserve card that had an earlier expiration month. This was not my desired choice.

I've been using the TurboTax for so many years, but this year's TurboTax has so many defects or bugs, It's not friendly at all. Lots of pages indicated has Edit, Review, Delete, but there is no button or options to do so. I don't like this at all. When transferred from previous Tax return, some fields are miss matching. When deleted one Student dependent, then the next none student dependent will replace the deleted student dependent. It's so bad. Also took me so many hours to resolve different kinds of issues.

I have used TurboTax for over 20 years and I find doing taxes to be efficient with this application. I also file thru TurboTax and get my refunds faster than most. I like that it handles my investments and rental property tax situations clearly and accurately.

Last year's version was easier to use in my opinion. It seems that more unnecessary separate screens have been added perhaps to appeal to new users. It took longer, and in some cases, it was difficult to get a complete picture of where the interview was heading. I had to look at the forms being completed to see if anticipated information was going to be requested or if I needed to look elsewhere.

The interview went pretty smoothly, although there was a puzzling topic regarding Canadian Registered Pension Income that no relevance to my situation. The principal reason is give only 4 stars is that the state product for Maine continues to leave the taxpayer high and dry (ie, relevant data from the federal return not transferred to the state return) in the matter of pension income limits. The state law as written is the dog's breakfast, true, but if anyone could decipher it I'd have expected TurboTax to be who did it.

The software is very user friendly and simplifies terms in ways that anyone not trained in accounting can understand. The process was very smooth, and the best part was being able to upload statements that automatically populated the correct fields. Using TurboTax really took out any fear of making a mistake while making my return as accurate as possible. Thank you!

Importing the tax information from last year was critical. We liked the ability to download information directly from our financial institutions (this save a lot of time). The questions posed by Turbo Tax are generally straightforward but not always. We liked being able to go back and review individual topics. In past years we had difficulty accessing Form 8606 for IRA distributions. We have learned to search for the form we needed under the list of forms - and we were able to fill it out with information specific to our needs. One criticism - at the end, when Turbo Tax is reviewing for errors - the alert said we had to fill in the box on line 22 on a 1099-INT, however, we had 16 1099-INT forms and it was a real pain to determine which one TurboTax had targeted. If the goal is to fix errors, then the software should just bring up the form that needs to be corrected. That would be very helpful. I think TurboTax gets smarter each year - and perhaps listens to customers reviews. Kudos to staff for the changes you have made over the years.
