Suggestions on improvement

Everything is very good except 2 things need to be improved : 1. NJ State case: There is one special case: In TIAA Retirement funds (403B), retirees already paid the state tax, however, the software has difficult to understand it, even more difficulty to handle it clearly (adjust cost, and decide taxable and excludable pars). 2. The speed and accuracy, the overall quality to respond/answer customers' questions are not very good. For many cases, the AL tools such as Gemini and ChatGpt are much better.

Everything was fine until the 1099-Rs..

TurboTax does not handle 1099-R forms correctly when the Taxable Amount is less than the Gross distribution. According to a Level-15 member of the Community regarding input of 1099-R forms, "TTX messed it up totally this year." I struggled with trying to get TTX to enter the correct amount and bypass the need for the Simplified Method Worksheet. Thankfully, I received great advice from the Community member that allowed me to avoid that confusing form.

Stay on your toes

I believe Turbo Tax did not carry forward certain 1099R (spouse's distribution) info to my state tax return calculations. I caught it and went back to Federal to re-enter the same informaton and it then showed up on the state return. The information was never missing from the Federal return

TurboTax is excellent, but online is expensive

this year I had a trouble with the updates. Don't know weather its Windows 11 or you, the updates took forever to complete. one night i went to bed and in the morning the update had a error message. so I updated again and it went thru. Had to ask ChatGPT how to enter my IP pin, I used the desktop version.

Works, but ...

Works but I lost confidence in the product this year. It seemed a little buggy this year. The interface treats the Payer ID differently in the input and review sections for foreign 1099-DIV that have no Federal ID. Input requires zeroes, and review section requires blanks. Interface requests for forms not included in the filing and requests the same information multiple times and at times unexpectedly. Printing form 1040-SR without truncating forms at the bottom was a real challenge on MacOS with an HP 2035. Printing behaved differently depending on where the print was selected. Only "Print forms for filing" got satisfactory results.

Praise and request to fix product.

I like how the product pre-populates values when it is able, but there are a couple of values you know from my previous state return, but you force me to dig out the paperwork to find it. Since you read my file from the previous year, there is no reason you should force me to do this. One other small thing that bothers me. I live in NH and work in MA. I don't have to file NH taxes, but need to file MA taxes. When I am filling out the MA tax questions, why does the top banner keep changing back to the amount of money owe/return for NH. It should stay in MA since that is the return I am editing.!!! One last thing. This edit box cannot keep up with my typing and removes characters I have already typed, so I have to constant hit backspace and edit my typing. Get rid of that stupid AI review topic thing. BTW: I don't type fast.

Direct Deposit Debit does not work for BofA.

Turbo Tax would not allow me to use direct debit or deposit, even after I verified and confirmed my Bank of America Routing number from their website. It forced me to have to mail a check and wait to get a state refund check versus direct deposit and debit. you need to fix this bug

NEED SMARTER SOFTWARE and BETTER UI

The state software is pretty much useless. The language is ambiguous and vague. In places I don't even know what year you are asking about. This happens in the federal software also. You should have a policy of clearly identifying the state and year you are asking about on each question. This is just the beginning - there are many other issues in what seems to be software written in a rush with little UI quality testing. Also, why do I have to struggle with so many of the questions? Isn't your software supposed to figure things out for me? Some of the help information is so confusing I just give up and move on. YOUR SOFTWARE SHOULD TELL ME WHAT TO DO to minimize my taxes. Default your help screens to a larger font.

Learn more instructions not helpful

I have used turbo tax for 20+ years and this was the first year that I found the "learn more" explanations to be extremely non-helpful. Even pulling the form to review was not enough (usually that is all I need). Had to actually go to irs.gov and download instructions for the form I needed.

The new web version is awful. Desk top version OK.

I found the Web version very difficult (impossible) to use as I could not enter information when I had it ready and available to enter. Exasperated, I then moved to the Desktop version and could then move around to enter information as it became available. I will never even try to use the web version again!
