TurboTax just walks through common tax situations. Less common items can usually be found. This year I had a one time need to file a trust return. It was not available in my TurboTax version. I wound up doing it on paper. This year I thought I would try the online version. I found it difficult to navigate and wound up going back to the downloaded version. I did not see a way to go to forms online, for example.

Had issues when recording installment payments for an asset we sold. Schedule E modified Form 6252 for a different asset, rather than creating Form 6252 for the asset we were dealing with. Had to go into FORMS mode and override the incorrect values and force a new Form 6252 to be created properly.

I always find Turbo Tax easy to use and follow. I rely on Turbo Tax step by step guidance giving me the confidence to follow all necessary steps needed for a good return. Furthermore, there are Online advice, if needed or the Help questions. Turbo Tax is the way to go..

IT GETS WORSE EVERY YEAR... ONLY REASON I USE IT IS I THINK IT WILL IMPROVE, AND YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU'VE SPENT YOUR MONEY AND ARE INTO THE 2ND PAGE.WWWRRROOONNNG AGAIN . THIS YEAR'S WAS THE WORST YET. THANK GOODNESS FOR CHAT WHO EXPLAINED WHAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO DO!! IT USED TO BE SO EASY YEARS AGO. WHAT HAPPENED? I AM GOING TO JUST GVE IT TO A TAX MAN OR WOMAN EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT MIND DOING IT MYSELF IF I HAVE THE OLD PROGRAM FROM 8 YEARS AGO, SIMPLE AND ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS EDIT THE LAST YEARS RETURN ENTRIES WHICH WERE LISTED AND POPULATED AND ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS!!! IT JUST GETS WORSE AND MORE CONFUSING EVERY YEAR.

Turbo Tax Premier needs to be able to incorporate additional items from broker statements such as Foreign taxes paid/accrued by country and tax-exempt income by state. I should not have to input these items manually. SDIT tax return for Ohio does not properly pick up Ohio income!

TurboTax is terrific (I've been using since '82-82). It is fast, accurate and easy to update with changes. It may be a large part of why I've never been audited. All of the live tax support personnel have been patient and easy to work with (plus they were polite, professional, knowledgeable and focused).

on you premium addition I have finished my returns and when trying to pay for my state return when i discover that your credit card page doesn't work properly, I'm not able to scroll down to the 12th month when entering my card expiration date it only goes to 10, and if i retry it will only go to 7. So I can't file my state return. This sucks!

Still salty about last year's bait-and-switch on filing fees, and the behind-the-scenes mistreatment of an IRA payout which required amending a filed return. (I don't ever want to go through that again). At least I knew not to believe the "offer" this year, but then I ran into year's big surprise which was the loss of access to prior years' Turbo Tax return file data, making it necessary to re-input a bunch of stuff by hand. Sure feels like the whole operation is geared towards discouraging people like me from using desktop PC software, which continues to decline in quality and usability. Intuit doesn't get it--I will NOT have my personal information stored on someone else's computer, so I will NOT use the online version. EVER. Which means I've been scouting for alternatives, and given that I had to input everything from scratch this year anyway, I figure the barrier to taking up a competitive offer from another tax system provider just went to zero. Total bummer after decades of being a customer. Oh well.

I have used Turbo Tax for well over 10 years without any problems, confusion or need for Tech Support. Not true this year! First there was a problem and confusion with importing from my financial institution. While I received no errors, it kept taking me through the same process over again as I tried to moved on to the next steps. I then realized was it was performing the same import over again but as I proceeded it was not pulling in any of the info such as interest, dividends, etc. I finally contacted Tech Support who spend well over 40 minutes on this issue. Though Windows was at the current level of update, she had me apply Advanced Updates to my system and then clean up all the duplication that occurred with the previous attempts for import. I was now past that problem but found this year to have many more ambiguous or repetitive questions. At one point I skipped the step where I had to enter the sales tax for my area. I later learned that I needed to answer that question but when I stepped back though, that option was no longer included in the steps. I had to go to forms to find the line where it needed to be added. When I was completely done, all the review checks for both federal and state ran clean. However, when I hit the final button to submit my taxes, an error then popped for the state. It said that on my 1099-R, which was imported, that the "State tax withheld", line 14, could not be greater or equal to the "State Distribution", line 16. Line 16 has always been blank every other year without getting this error. I learned from a friend, who was also struggling with Turbo Tax issues this year, that I needed to enter my Gross distribution figure on this line to solve the problem and allow my submission. I also later learned from someone who uses other tax preparation software, that there was a new federal tax benefit called The Enhanced Deduction for Seniors. There was nothing in Turbo Tax to explain this benefit or give me the opportunity to see if I could have taken this benefit. The one good thing I can say is that the Tech Support person was very professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. However, my experience with Turbo Tax this year was so much more time consuming and frustrating that I am seriously looking to go elsewhere next year.

I had trouble with a 1099-Q to me but was for my granddaughter. It was a small amount but I ended up paying a tax on it because the software didn't walk me though it well enough. I also am concerned that there will be a problem with the 1099-R as I have 3 IRAs but take the total RMD required from 2 of them. I entered all information as the software requested but I'm concerned as there didn't seem to be anywhere to enter the RMD for the 3rd IRA that I didn't take anything from because I took more from the other 2 and didn't need to take any from the 3rd.
