TurboTax works quite well!!

Having been using TurboTax for few years now, it's quite supportive with the features of walk-through step-by-step and the check for error are very helpful. The matching with the forms are very accurate and very compatible. The downloading of the software and communications with the IRS and states for transmitting files, and the online payment are very convenience.

TurboTax 2025 is the worst experience ever

In the deduction section, it didn't guide me to all the deduction categories before that section was 'Done'; I had to manually go to the Charitable Contribution and Car property tax sections to enter those info. Then my e-filed Federal tax return was rejected because it said my IP PIN is missing but when I opened the rejected return in the Turbo Tax, the tax return was missing and I had to complete the return again using the draft version the e-file rejected error message was attached to. Then I should have been allowed to re-file at no extra cost since it was TurboTax Smart Review that did not catch the error but I had to pay another $25 to e-file state return after already paying $15 (using $10 credit) in the initial e-file. So I am disputing the $15 charge with my credit card company and basically lost out on $10 credit. Worse experience ever.

TurboTax is awesome!

I have been using TurboTax for a number of years and purchased for my daughter as well. I would not be able to complete my return without Turbo! It covers all of the complicated computations regarding investments, capital gains, etc. with ease. I will certainly keep using TurboTax in the future.

2025, A Bad Year for User Interface

I've used TurboTax for years and the 2025 version was atrocious. We have rental property. Walking through the sale of rental property was poorly designed. You need to clearly differentiate between a rental "property" and other types of rental assets. It took me about 4 hours to determine how to accurately enter the sale of the property. Also, on the window size for entering credit card payment for the state e-file fee would only display months 1 through 8. There was no ability to scroll to select months 10-12, or to resize the window.

Disappointed

The software seemed to work well to prepare my return. I didn't have any issues with e-filing the federal return. The state return was another matter entirely. I did not have tax due, and was not getting a refund. Therefore, why should I pay $25 to e-file the state return? But the problem is it's not clear at all how to print the required state forms and mail them. The app keeps bringing me back to info about e-filing, or it offers expert advice for a $60 payment. This info should be easily accessible in the app. I've never had this problem before with turbotax, but it is likely to influence

Good, but not perfect

TurboTax failed to suggest proper standard vs itemized deduction method when filing Idaho state return. It was better for me to use standard deduction for state due to size of health insurance deduction. Turbotax missed this. Also, failed to provide place to reduce dividend income on State tax return by amount of income from US gov't securities (greater than 50%) classified as dividends rather than "interest."

1099-B Nominee Distribution

I have a joint investment account with someone, not my spouse. The account tax number is mine. I was able to adjust the 1099-int and the 1099-div. But I found it difficult to adjust the 1099-B. I had to do some research on my own. I think I figured it out. Not sure if I did it right to avoid an audit, but did it good enough to avoid any penalty. Not sure if I have the correct code in column F on the 8849.

Terrible look with Washington State

Major problem with accessing correct state form. Somehow you think everyone needs to file income taxes in Washington State (not true) and make that the free state download. Yes, some folks will need to file to claim a tax credit, but most do not. Some of us would prefer to use the free state download on another state (in my case, California due to assets related to inheritance). Sounds like a corporate trick to make more money by trying to force me to buy the California download when I (and many others) do not need the Washington State program such as it is.

Never Buying TurboTax Again

This is awful! I would have ZERO stars if the review allowed. This is the worst version of TurboTax ever. I have used TurboTax desktop for over 20 years. This version has a lot of problems. One issue with the 1099R was identified back in January, and it still isn't fixed on April 14th! I can't e-file federal or state because of this TurboTax software error. The AI bot is a sad excuse for customer service and I am not paying another $50 to talk to a human. I am canceling my TurboTax Advantage membership and using some other tax software next year.

Turbo Tax is less user friendly

I had to call for support because you could not toggle between the "Step by step" and the "forms" without completely losing my place. For example I made and error in entering the RMD amount (because of lack of guidance) Saw the error on "forms" and could not get back to step by step to correct it. Working with the support person we finally found it after 20 plus minutes or so. The point is that it should not be necessary. I've using TurboTax since the 1980s and it has been harder to use during the last several years. For example, it is now very confusing to enter RMDs that have had partial distributions via Charitable Donations. There used to be questions about that to guide entering the data. Now I did not see that. I thought TurboTax kept a record from year to year of the "Basis" for my IRAs. Is that form 8606 or something like that. Now could not find it and Turbo Tax asked me for it ---- it is gone!
