As an 11-year customer of TurboTax, it pains me to write a negative review, but it's time to face the truth. The truth is that in the age of AI TurboTax increasingly seems clunky and overpriced. I used FreeTaxUSA.com to complete the returns for one of my relatives. For relatively simple returns, it's a better product than TurboTax, and it's free. TurboTax needs to cut its price drastically to survive.

I believe TurboTax has accurate and omplete computations, however, the program continued to give me a "not-responding" message. This occurred too many times to count and sometimes lasted as long as 5-6 minutes. It's not my computer because my computer is new and powerful. If it's my ISP, thats beyond my control. I don't have any other answers.

Turbo Tax needs to get better at being more intuitive. It continues to ask questions in which the typical filer might say, "how the heck do I know?" Further, in the case of VA military retirees, it was NOT clear where you are supposed to enter your military retirement pay. I almost had to pay taxes instead of getting a refund.

YOU HAVE CHANGED THE SAVE TO AUTOMATIC... I DO NOT LIKE THIS AND IT MAY CAUSE ME TO SWITCH NEXT YEAR. I WANT THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THINGS TO SEE HOW IT WOULD AFFECT NEXT YEARS RETURN AND PLAN ACCODINGLY... THIS IS A BIG ISSUE. SCHEDULE M FOR MY ILLINOIS TAX IS DIFFICULT TO FIND, IT SHOULD BE READILY ACCESSABLE, AND PART OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED IN THE PROGRAM. AND ASKING ME EVERY SINGLE TIME ABOUT PURCHASING UPGRADE, OR PROTECTION, OR HELP FOR PAY. ONCE I ANSWER IT ONCE, SHOULD BE DONE WITH IT, AND IF I WISH TO PURCHASE LATER I CAN.

I was using the guide me feature for everything. It never asked me for Social Security Income. I had go back and enter it manually. I also had to initiate Crypto sell even though I had checked that I had sold Crypto. Another thing is that it carried a direct rollover of an IRA to another institution as income when comparing previous years income to this years. Last years return was clearly marked that it was a direct rollover. It showes that I made over a hundred thousand dollars more last year than I did. I did not pay taxes on it last year, but Turbo tax carried into this years software as income when it compares the two years. Too many things wrong. These are simple errors in the software. Not something complicated. I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years. There always seems to be something it does not do what it should.

I am very disappointed with this year's Turbo Tax. It took until March to correct one of the forms. It is getting more expensive as well. This year also had a bunch of weird and, it seems, unnecessary questions. You are making it hard to continue purchasing your product.

Although the software is nice, I only give it an average because there are issues with it that caused me lots of problems. That is when I ran into a problem. This is the second year. I use Norton Anti-Virus. The anti-theft protection build into TurboTax Desktop evidentially can't "Call Home" to verify that the product has been activated so it displays an activation box and makes you activate the product. Last year I ran out of activations even though only had it on one computer. This year I googled and found a solution. Whenever it asks that, you have to exit, disable all of your Norton (and other companies) antivirus software to avoid getting the Must Activate message. Yes, now I have a workaround, but one would think that Intuit programmers would figure out a way to check your account for activation without making you disable all of your protection to do so. Especially since this is NOT the first year of this problem.

When I first used TurboTax to file my taxes (~2007) your product was truly revolutionary and accurate. But this high mark has been deteriorating ever since and now it is not confidence inspiring. This is so much so that over the past several years I've been looking for a higher quality product. And it isn't just the core software. You now feature more advertising than ever before, the costs of the software continues to go up, the "interview" questions are still sometimes ambiguous and so I wonder if the quality of what you sell is a good value.

I used TurboTax Online this year, and I will never use it again. First, it allows me to submit only one set of tax forms, which is ridiculous. Second, it messed up my submission to the IRS where what they received on form 5695 is not what I show on my copy. The QMIN (line 29e) was missing, which caused delays while the IRS investigated and reached out to me. I submitted that information, and they corrected it. But then I found out that the credit amount on line 30 was wrong (it submitted the amount from 29e [the total cost] instead of the credit). The IRS then removed rejected my credit request and issued my refund, which means I need to file an amended return. This has cost me hours of time and has delayed my $2,000 credit by months. I couldn't be more frustrated. I work in IT, and I can't imagine how something like this could get through QA.

You support is horrible. I spent 3 days and about 5 hours dealing with issues between you and comcast regarding email not coming through and with being able to login to my turbotax account. I was just trying to active my desktop software but could not login to your system, since I could login into your system I couldn't even type my license code into work on my taxes. They whole thing is so frustrating every year and is huge waste of time and frankly turbotax/intuit should refund the money I had to pay for this software over this. I will consider switching to H&R block next year.
