I have always liked Turbo Tax but this year they got sneaky and I was considering switching. I have windows 10 and like to do my taxes with the desktop version and not online. I also don't want to upgrade just yet. This years desktop version only works with Windows 11 which is a huge inconvenience. Why??

TurboTax desktop: Install is problematic on Windows 11. Not to mention the TurboTax update just hangs and had to reinstall to workaround the issue by downloading the updated version. In the midway trying to launch the TurboTax program on windows 11 it gets blocked. There is no way run it even with Admin Privilege.

For the first time in many years I had some difficulty with the product. First on download of information, one of the downloads did not fill in all of the information. I had to go and redo that download, Thankfully I caught the mistake prior to filling. The second area is the interface. It was far more user friendly to manually enter data in the past. The new interface is no what I would call user friendly being much more cumbersome to go through. I really saw this when I was attempting to figure out what income I was missing.

There's too much garbage windows that take too much time. For example, when you want to enter information from a 1099-INT you get a window with 5 or 6 choice to pick from. It's a waste of time. If I say I want to enter a 1099-INT, just bring up the entry window, not another window with 5 or 6 choices to choose from. In addition, some forms are not rolling forward from year to year, specifically Forms 8606. Why? Because if you take distributions from the Federal Thrift Savings Program (TSP), which does not allow you to calculate taxable income which included non-deductible contributions in previous years, Turbo Tax throws out the form. That needs to be corrected.

Wasn't as easy to use online vs the desktop version. I started wt online but quickly realized uploading last year's TurboTax pdf was easier. If once I signed in, it populated last year next to this year like the Desktop version does, I would like it. I would like to try online next year

Form is easy enough to understand and work through, until I was trying to input my interest and dividends income in the federal tax section. In the past it has given me the option of logging in/ linking my brokerage account, but this year it kept insisting that I re-log into the intuit account. Also there are some janky components in this section that made it so if I were trying to get to a certain page, it wouldn't give me the option unless I followed a VERY specific sequence. I ultimately had to manually input everything for this portion.

I really like using TurboTax each year, but I will say I have had challenges with inputting information regarding my child and the use of the 529 plan. I really think there should be functionality that questions if something seems odd or not. In my case I didn't realize if did not include the right about for room and board. I entered one month versus 12 times that monthly amount. Seems like there should have been an error or call out to ask is that correct? I did something similar last year. I catch it after I file because the advice section has triggered me to go back and look back on the feedback. It highlights that I paid a penalty which then tells me I made an error. Can you look into adding some functionality. Thanks!

This Year certain carry forward data was not correct. We tried to find error but all carry forward data was correct on import but nevertheless in this case somehow modified incorrect. In addition a form 502C (education) had an entry present that Turbotax generated i have no idea why as we shouldn't even have data in this area. The answer was to delete this form. This took everyone a lot of time to resolve. To me this year software application needs a better-quality control before being released

While accuracy and features are excellent, I always have problems with finding supporting data worksheets that track to my 1099s, lacking in hot links to supporting worksheets. Foreign taxes are impossible to understand and track, finding worksheets for capital gains and losses, vs capital gains distributions are difficult to trace. Multiple 1099s from the same payer significantly complicates things unless you modify the payees title. My state does not have an income tax but TurboTax does not accept that.

This year the importing of information was difficult and not reliable. It was difficult to find the spot for entering information that I knew was needed, but not offered during the walk through of the different sections. I never felt comfortable that all of the data was entered as needed. My comfort level with the program wasn't as good as years past.
