When the return gets more difficult, too often TurboTax gets "quiet". That is, it either asks the customer to do more to help TurboTax or has new screens that, for the most part, do not have those helpful hyperlinks to explain things. Also, particularly egregious in my opinion, it for the first time showed me that I had a fee/interest on the printout on the cover page. No clue before that! And, could I find out why, what it was all about, how it was calculated, etc.??? NO! I had to do some research outside of TurboTax to see various chatter on the topic. So, it was about Form 2210. But could I find Form 2210 in my FULL list of forms?? NO. I had to dig in, find how I could 'challenge' the fee via TurboTax, annualized my data/input, etc. That let me lower it and finally see the Form 2210.

Initial log on process is odd and not user friendly. Some screens only provide partial visibility on computer monitor. Overall, it worked for completing my taxes. But, screens, content, help responses could be so much better. I found myself using AI to get good tax advice and answers.

I really hope that by next year, the integration of AI will allow me to simply place all my PDF documents into a single folder so that TurboTax can automatically populate the data and file my return. I found myself relying on Google Gemini quite a bit this year for assistance instead of using the built in TurboTax help features, and I am definitely looking for a much smoother reporting process next season. The most frustrating part of the current system is the manual entry required for RSU stocks. Even for tiny amounts like 0.012 shares or a single dollar in earnings, I still had to manually type in every single line item.

For eighteen years, I have been using Intuit TurboTax to file my taxes. And it just keeps improving—improving, improving, and improving. But, I just found my California 540 returning does not including a copy of Fed 1040-SR. I asked California Franchise Tax Board, The answer is "I need to have a copy of the Fed tax return in my 2025 540 tax return."

I efiled the 2025 federal and two state returns. All were accepted by the taxing agencies. Now I have to amend all three returns. TurboTax says I can't efile the state amended returns because they were submitted using TurboTax but not efiled. TurboTax is inaccurate, totally wrong. The return copies include the notices of acceptance. It is a big ordeal to have to mail three sets of dozens of redundant pages.

I have used Turbo Tax for years. The 2 years that I used a different product, it was a total headache. Even when we had tax help through our employer, the process was not much easier! I do wish that the more extensive product for multi member LLCs and corporations was available for Mac users.

• Continually sends me emails recommending that I purchase Turbotax even weeks AFTER I have purchased and installed it. Similar to last year when I continued to receive weekly emails regarding late filing services 5-6 months after I had in fact, filed the return. • Schedule F: Failed to transfer 2024 farm income (as seen in the year-to-year comparisons) • Personal income section: Does not allow me to skip electronic import of investment data and go directly to manual input. Instead, it takes me to import, and when I enter “skip” it takes me to back to the initial page where it eventually allows me to manually enter the data. Very inefficient, and frankly wasteful and disrespectful of my time. Turbotax should have an up-front option to skip all electronic import and allow the user (i.e., the person who PAYS FOR this software) to manually enter data if he so chooses. o I note that in previous editions of Turbotax, there was a check-box with the option to stop asking the question. • Also, Turbotax added-in several “blank” or “Un-named” investment accounts which I am unable to delete. There is no data in these accounts, since they do not exist, but as a user I am not allowed the option to delete them. o Eventually I opened the “Forms View” and was able to delete the non-existent accounts. • On the screen “Other Interest and Dividends” TurboTax auto-checks for seller-financed mortgage interest (which I don't have) and does not allow me to un-check the box. • 1099-R: Turbotax imported the payer name for my pension, but it also imports the data from last year and does not allow me the option to update or edit any information for the current tax year. I was finally able to manually enter by going to the “Forms View” but it still won't allow me to edit information from the main “Step-by-Step” menu. o Eventually needed to enter “Form View” to delete the entire form and start again from scratch. • My state forms did not transfer my Federal pension exemption. Notes said to locate “Find” on toolbar, but there is no such term on the toolbar. Again, had to return to the “Form View” and delete the entire form, then re-enter the information. Once that was completed, the information was correct but there was no option to edit the data from the “Step-by-Step” screen.

I have been using Turbo tax since 2006. For the most part it has been easy to use and follow. This year's update seems to have been in better shape with it's early release. No major issues. Online help and documentation of issues that have been addressed for others have been able to help me. Better this year than 2024.

As I say below, everything worked well except when I got to electronically file, it seemed to want something new that wasn't needed before in the State Income Tax area, and since we live in Washington with no income tax at my level, I have never had to worry about this before. But it would not let me electronically file until I did something more about the State tax and it took quite awhile to figure out what the program wanted me to do that I never had to do in all the previous years of living in Washington and using Turbo Tax. Something has changed in the program that is not clear what it wanted.

After buying the software, when I selected to have my state return filing fee paid from the return I was automatically charged for premium and had to google how to fix that. In order to avoid the paying for premium I had to pay the filing fee with a credit card. I think this is a deceitful practice as there was no notice regarding this and I had to research on my own.
