Worst Turkey Ever

I went through a lot of trouble to get the smoked turkey because I live far from a Sam's club. I've never had smoked turkey and I wanted to try something different this Thanksgiving. Even though the turkey only weighed 12#, it was very tough and had lots of tendons just like a very old turkey. It had globs of strange looking fat inside the turkey cavity and under the skin, like someone put it there. The smoke flavor was really bad. I've cooked lots of turkeys in my life and this turkey was absolutely the worst. It was a waste of my $20.00.

Making the holidays easier!

I'm glad I was able to pick one of these up this year. It's totally worth it! It's easier than making your own, and to be honest, it tastes better than most. The ones I've made, the ones friends have made, special ordered... this one takes the cake. Do yourself a favor and get one of these! We added broth to the bottom of the roasting pan and had it on a roasting rack. Ended up putting foil on part way through so it didn't brown too much.

Turkey or Ham

If you want a turkey, buy a turkey. If you want a ham, buy a ham. If you want a turkey that tastes like ham, buy this. My taste buds were confused. Overall, I didn't care for it because it didn't taste like a turkey. I missed a herb roasted turkey flavor and found the color and texture a bit off-putting. It tasted too artificial and salty, in my opinion. 2 out of 4 people didn't care for it.

Perfect for a busy Thanksgiving

We purchased this last year for the first time. IT WAS AMAZING! We do a lot of the prep for Thanksgiving along with our son and his fiancee. I figured that since a fresh, frozen uncooked turkey takes so long on it's own, that a pre-cooked would work out great and could be reheated along with other items in our oven. Everything worked out perfectly as planned. I'm waiting for our local store to get them in stock again this year.

Terrible

We have bought this smoked turkey for many years and enjoyed it. This is the first year it is inedible so inedible we had to throw it out. It was slimy right out of the package. It fell apart the wings literally fell off! Then there was mushy chunky granule things literally in the bird! Handfuls if it! What a disappointment!

Best Turkey Ever!

This turkey is so tender and moist it's hard to believe that it's really turkey! Smoked just right and the best turkey I've ever had by far! Sadly no longer available in my club as it's considered a seasonal item available only at Thanksgiving-not sure why. I went back to get another for Christmas or whenever and there were no more.

Yummy as long as you're not a turkey purist

My husband and I bought one of these Smoked Whole Turkeys early as a test run due to the mixed reviews. 3 weeks before Thanksgiving my family got a "pre-Thanksgiving" meal. Taste: 4 stars. Reviews were a mixed bag from my family of 7 - most of us LOVED it, but 2 of my teenagers (coincidentally the only ones who really like turkey made in the oven the old-fashioned way) did not care for it. Based on some of the negative reviews that appears to be a consistent theme as some folks seemed to feel it was too ham-like. But hey, I guess for us Spiral Ham fans, that's a good thing. However, this is definitely not a substitute if you prefer the traditional oven-roasted turkey. Prep/cook: 5 stars. For me (mom aka Thanksgiving chef) this was a game changer. I do not have a double-oven so trying to make a turkey, and a ham, and two pies, and all the sides always requires some interesting time management. To be able to cut down the oven time allotment for my turkey feels like a definite win (my 9.5lb turkey needed 1 hr 45 min oven). I didn't do it exactly to specs as the bag says just to throw it in the oven and heat. I treated it almost like I do the regular turkey - put it in a roasting pan with broth (water if you're cutting sodium), lemon juice, black pepper, sage (or whatever herbs you prefer). Cover in foil. Broil at the end for a few min to crisp the skin. Use the drippings/broth to make some home made gravy. Verdict: We plan to get another for Thanksgiving.

Fully Cooked Turkey

Practically mistake-proof. Keep in fridge for 2 days. Preheat oven to 350. Take all wrapping off turkey. You can use a roasting bag to protect turkey from drying out, especially if you have to leave it in the over longer because guests come a bit late. Place turkey in a roasting pan and heat for one hour and 45 minutes or until meat reaches 140 degrees F. Take out of oven, transfer to baking sheet, carve and serve.
