winter storm izzy tested and approved!

we got dumped on this past winter storm and this worked great on my deck and steps and to clear out around my car. it's not a snowblower, but does work well for smaller areas. it ran for about a full 30 minutes of non-stop use, which was enough time out in the cold for me and it still had charge left on the battery. Very pleased with my purchase and other sunjoe product purchases. (i also have their power washer and pole saw).

Needs hood to direct snow

I should have read other reviews or watched videos before i bought this product. The angle you hold it at determines the direction the snow comes out ! Any angle less than 45 degrees and you will be covered with snow, especially if there is any wind !

Best Christmas tool!

The cordless snow shovel actually works! One charge has enough power to do both my drive and the neighbors. Although i wont have to worry about the neighbors anymore as soon as he saw what Snow Joe could do he bought one. Used five times, dry snow 2" and a wet snow 3" .

Very Pleased With Our First Experience

The Washington, DC area produces snows that are not snow thrower friendly. Snows are typically a mix of heavy and light. So, we didn't really know what to expect from a battery powered snow shovel. We just had our first test with a 4-6" snow on the heavier side and we are very pleased that our expectations were exceeded! While we purchased two batteries, only one (4 amp) was used to clear a path along the front walks of two houses. My frustrations with 4 different snowblowers that relied on gas power finally forced me to consider battery powered alternatives and this first venture in that direction has been a great success.

Mostly a Toy for Small Jobs

It's mostly a toy. It works for light small jobs on steps and walkways. However, more than 3" snow it is more work to use than it saves using a shovel. The unit is fairly heavy so requires good arm strength to move it forward into deeper snow. Have to take small bites to keep it from clogging down. Wish I could return it, but I didn't keep the box. Would not buy for Minnesota winters of any use. I was only planning to use it on a narrow strip along the side of garage next to neighbor's fence which made snow removal difficult, but this tool is not sufficient.

Easy snow removal

The 11" snow shovel is easy to use, and the battery lasts longer than I thought it would. I got to use it for the first time today on about 2-3 inches of snow. It was pretty wet snow, but the shovel did the job. I actually think it would work even better if there was more snow, because the blade would be able to catch the snow easier. The battery lasted long enough for my driveway and my neighbors driveway as well as both sidewalks.

Pretty good on the grass

I need to clear a path in my back yard to go to the bird feeder, and this was wonderful! However, when I went out to do the sidewalk and driveway, the blow back was so bad I couldn't see where I was going and ended up looking like a snowman, covered in snow from head to toe and 1/2 way down my neighbours sidewalk :( The snow is thrown straight out front and that's kind of a bummer, it blows back on you and what you just did. If it was blown to the side a bit, even slightly, to throw the snow to the side, that would be great. Even if it was set permanently to one side, that would be much better. And it is a bit awkward to use on a driveway, what with the turning and all and having to go back over what was just done. When the snow blows back on you, you just can't see where you're going. But, again, it was great on the grass and for making 1 pass on the patio :) Oh, I only had about 3/4 of an inch of snow on my drive. Thanks for reading this and I hope you can do something about the angle of the snow being thrown.

Great product exceeded my expectations

In Minnesota we deal with snow. I have a big blower to do my main driveway areas but needed something to take the tedium out of the walkways, steps, and areas close to the house where the big blower is not convenient. The Snow Joe shovel has far exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be good at a couple of inches of snow, but it tackles 6-8 inches easily and with surprising power. For deeper snow I make a couple of passes and it is gone. I have been amazed how quickly and effortlessly it does the job. Battery holds up easily to 30-40 minutes of continuous use which is typical for me. Construction is rugged. I think it could benefit from a few improvements. A flap to direct the snow more forward would be helpful. I may add something like this myself. I also wish the button on the handle was ambidextrous since I often switch which direction I am shoveling. Neither of these issues lessens my satisfaction with the product. It is an excellent, well-built tool.

Works for me

This shovel is lighter than a regular snow blower which I really appreciate. It would be nice if you could direct the snow, but where I am using it, I can throw the snow in any direction and just make sure the wind is behind me and I don't get buried in snow. If you were limited that would be a pain, when the wind shifts that face full of snow isn't fun. I have 2 batteries but so far, I give out before the battery does. It is heavier than I thought it would be so it can be a problem in deeper snow since you have to hold it up and take a swipe or 2 before you can slide it along the ground and that can get tiring. For me there has been a learning process to figure out the best way to use it. But overall, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Great tool, but battery life not what I expected

The saving strain on back and shoulders is worth it. Only issue is battery does not last as long as expected. Have 3 car driveway, and with 2 inches of snow, I cleared the two car part and sidewalk before the battery died. Was not able to clear the third driveway without recharging. By the third use I believe i have the most efficient pattern down. If there was a way to direct he snow slightly to one side, that would be an excellent enhancement.
