[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Today we fired up the grill using Lump Charcoal by The Good Charcoal Company. It was amazing and burned very hot! The first thing that I noticed about this charcoal was the bag - it is strong and sturdy, not made out of paper like the competition, and comes with a plastic carrying handle. This is a huge win since the bag is 27.5 lbs (12.47 kg)! To open the bag, pull the small white strip in front first to find the thread to fully access the bag. It is recommended to use a charcoal chimney with this lump charcoal, and we did and found that it was ready to go in 15 minutes. The lump charcoal was easy to ignite and took right off; plus, it stayed lit and left no residual smoke once it was ready. It cooked all of our food evenly with excellent results, as you can see from my pictures. This lump charcoal is made with Acacia hardwood, making it fully chemical free, and all natural. The Good Charcoal company also sponsors weekly BBQs for those facing food insecurity, which truly makes them a good company. The only drawback we found in this lump charcoal is that the pieces are small, and some of it fell right through the charcoal chimney. The product is worth it and glad its sold at Sams. Easy burning and great smoke flavor. The only problem I had was the cinder and ashes restricting the airflow on my gravity fed after an all night coal. This seems to be the case only because the pieces were too small. Will experiment with other bags before circling around back to this one.

I was hesitant to listen to my friend when he told me to switch up my lump charcoal... But I was really sold on this stuff. The good charcoal burns great and is a nice switch up from my normal product. Pieces are on the smaller side but i noticed no difference in grill quality. I also compared the ingredients and it's so much cleaner than what I've been using... just a few ingredients. Will be buying in the future and recommending to other cooks.

I have to sadly agree with the others knocking this product. It's inferior to the Frontier brand Sam's sold previously. I didn't have a piece larger than a golf ball in the whole bag, which makes it completely unusable in a kamado style grill. This clearly isn't a transportation problem either as my bag was surprisingly full. The bags were filled with small pieces.

I really like the concept of the Good Charcoal company. In this world sustainability is key, as is social responsibility. This charcoal does burn long and hot but doesn't really rage. It lights easily, has little smoke once going and burns so completely there is very little ash to clean out. The bag weight is great compared to other brands and for the price it can't be beat. So... why not 5 stars? Too many small pieces compared to the lump. Having said that no brand is perfect with lump size, unless you pay much more than you should have to for lump charcoal. This brand does have more than its share of small pieces, but unlike some posters I have had a decent amount of moderate to large sized chunks. When I get any bag of lump, I tend to sort through it separating the pieces roughly by size. This is because when I do those long cooks I really want the largest sizes available. The smaller pieces do not go to waste though because I can use them for a quick steak, chops, fish or chicken but I do agree with others that sometimes they fall through the starter chimney and some do fall through the grate. BTW I am using a PK360 grill or a SmokeMaster side box smoker. All in all then, I really like the product for value, quick lighting, long even burning, little ash and no disagreeable flavor added to the food. I definitely would like to see more lumps in this "lump" charcoal product, and fewer of the smallest pieces.

The company itself seems amazing their mission and idea behind starting then good charcoal company is what supporting small business is all about . My coals burned pretty even across the entire grill making for an delicious dinner for everyone involved. Flavor was great as we expected. My only issue was some of the sizes of the coals were inconsistent

This is a great lump charcoal for many reasons. First is that there is nothing but wood that has been turned into charcoal from high heat minus the absence of oxygen. There is NO chemical taste on your food if you use a chimney to start the fire and DO NOT USE any chemical fire starter. Second is that this wood burns for a long long time so you can use less and get better results that by using a pressed lump charcoal which contains chemicals that will make your food taste just like the liquid fire starter you used or didn't use , it is in the lumps as they put this in the charcoal when it was pressed.

No other brand of charcoal we have purchased has the handle and it was actually so convenient to move around because of it. The second thing i noticed was that it was 100% chemical free. That is extremely important to me and my family. The charcoal itself did great and the food tasted wonderful! I am excited to use it again. Great price for the amount you get as well!
