A great product

This is a great charcoal that burns hot, but burns long, and the price is great. I grill and smoke my n average 5 nights a week and I fully endorse this product!

Few large chunks.

Well, it burns up ok, a bit too quickly. It technically is "Lump" charcoal, but there were disappointingly a small amount of large pieces. Not trying to be funny here but when most of the "lumps" are smaller than standard charcoal briquettes, it was a disappointing purchase. Not good at all for a long, slow cook in my smoker.

Poor packaging

Almost all the bags in the store were torn. At first I thought it was due to handling. It’s not, the bag material is practically paper. I couldn’t lift a single bag without getting soot all over my hands. If they put so little effort to securing the charcoal, I can’t imagine the charcoal being any better as other reviewers noted.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for letting us know about your experience. We have been proud to offer The Good Charcoal at Sam’s Club for more than two years, and each bag is made from dense Acacia bushes rather than old growth trees. This wood is naturally harder than oak or hickory and is designed to give steady heat with a clean burn and no chemicals.
What you describe sounds far from what we expect. If you would like to talk about the bag you received and how we can help, please email Hello@TheGoodCharcoal.com and someone from our US based team will follow up with you directly.
The Good Charcoal Team

Burns hot, Burns long

This is a great lump charcoal for many reasons. First is that there is nothing but wood that has been turned into charcoal from high heat minus the absence of oxygen. There is NO chemical taste on your food if you use a chimney to start the fire and DO NOT USE any chemical fire starter. Second is that this wood burns for a long long time so you can use less and get better results that by using a pressed lump charcoal which contains chemicals that will make your food taste just like the liquid fire starter you used or didn't use , it is in the lumps as they put this in the charcoal when it was pressed.

I want to like this, I really do. but so much of the bag is tiny chips of charcoal that fall through my charcoal grate and sit on the bottom. Maybe 1/3 of the bag is reasonable and usable size, 1/3 is just big enough to not fall through every time, and 1/3 is a step away from use in a pellet grill. This was based on the top of the bag, I anticipate it getting worse as I get closer to the bottom where even more small pieces will settle out. I'd like to think I got a dud of a bag, but looks like my experience is fairly common.

Thanks for trying The Good Charcoal and sharing your feedback. Our charcoal is made from dense Acacia bushes rather than old growth trees, which naturally creates a mix of piece sizes that helps keep heat steady and reduce flare ups. Even with smaller pieces, you should still see long, consistent burn times. If you feel like they were too small to use we understand and we want to help.

If you have any questions about getting the best results. Just email us at Hello@TheGoodCharcoal.com and a member of our US based team will get back to you.

Great Burn

Lump burns hot, clean, and doesn't leave a lot of ash behind. I get great burn times in my drum as well as my cabinet smokers, and often get compliments on how clean my cook smells. TGC keeps the fires burning throughout the night, no need to reload to finish those long cooks up.

Flavor if food was amazing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really enjoyed this charcoal. They burn for a good amount if time and sustain the heat. Not as ashy as other brands. I also like the flavor of my food better with this brand. I will purchase more.

The lump charcoal lights quick, burns hot, and giv

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using this lump charcoal for a while now, and it’s awesome! It lights up fast, gets super hot, and burns for a good long time. The chunks are all natural wood, so the food gets that great smoky flavor without any weird chemicals. Plus, it doesn’t leave a ton of ash, which makes cleaning up way easier. If you’re into grilling or smoking, this stuff is definitely worth trying!

Get the bags on top of you can bottom are broken

It’s good and I hope they do what they say they do on their package. I feel and like the rest of other low ratings is that the coals are very small. An I believe it’s not that they are putting chips but they break in the packaging. Since they are stacked on top of each other they tend to break. If you are lucky enough to get the ones on top of the pallet you have better chance of chunks.
