Hi Charles,
We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review.
Our lump charcoal is made from solid hardwood acacia and is built specifically for grilling and BBQ. With natural lump, pieces won’t all look identical, but the performance comes from the density of the wood itself. When fully ignited, it’s designed to produce strong, steady heat for cooking.
We’d like to learn more about what you experienced and make this right. If you’re open to it, please email us at Hello@thegoodcharcoal.com and our team will take care of you.
From The Good Charcoal team

Only charcoal we get is lump coal

I once made a mistake and grabbed lump coal charcoal for my husband. At first he was a little irritated, but once he opened the bag and tried the lump coal, he was sold! That's all we buy now...

Expensive for the bag. Because the briquettes are small it takes more than the larger hardwood charcoal to burn. Larger hardwood is more cost effective.

Hey Mary, thanks for the review and for giving us a try.
It looks like there may be some confusion here on which product was purchased and where, so we'd love to get some clarity. What we can say is that our bags should never be that expensive. Our most expensive bag currently runs $22, so if you paid more than that it's likely through a third party seller on the marketplace and not directly from us.
You can find our charcoal at much more affordable prices at retailers like Sam's Club, or check out our 6lb super briquettes available at select Walmart locations usually running just $6 or $7. Use the store locator at thegoodcharcoal.com to find the closest spot to you, or DM us on Instagram at @thegoodcharcoal and we'll point you in the right direction.

Dust at the bottom.

The charcoal starts good at first. But as you use it the chunks get smaller. In the end the poeces are the size of 50 cent pieces

Not Lump Charcoal as Advertised

This Lump Charcoal is not as advertised. There are very few lumps and most of the charcoal is nothing more than leftover tiny chips from the kiln process. I do not recommend this product.

Hi Curt,
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like the bag you received may not have been up to our usual standard. Our charcoal is made from dense Acacia bushes, not old growth trees, which creates a mix of piece sizes that still delivers steady heat, long burn times, and clean flavor. If your bag didn’t perform that way, we’d really like to help make it right.
Please email us at Hello@TheGoodCharcoal.com with a photo or quick note about what happened, and a member of our US based team will personally take care of it.
The Good Charcoal Team

Good Charcoal

This is good charcoal. To call it Lump Charcoal is a stretch. I will definitely buy again, but so far no big lumps of charcoal in my bag. I would compare to the size to that of regular briquettes. Easy to light and burn well.

Hi Mel,
We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying how easily The Good Charcoal lights and burns. Our charcoal is made from dense Acacia bushes rather than old growth trees, giving it a steady, even heat without chemicals or fillers. The density of this hardwood not only makes it one of the hottest burning charcoals on the market, it also helps restore grasslands by removing invasive species and protecting endangered wildlife.
We’re happy to have you grilling with us and appreciate your continued support.
The Good Charcoal Team

Clean & Hot Burn Perfect for Grilling Steaks

Great Clean Burn, able to get really hot which is perfect for searing. Perfect for the grill with smaller easier to light pieces that get hot quick and have a consistent heat throughout the grill. I am a fan of "no chemicals".

Good for a little smokiness, that's about it.

I do like the woody smoky flavor it leaves behind. Stays real hot for a short time and then the coals die out quickly leaving unconsumed charcoal pieces I have to clean out of my BBQ. Not too impressed by this product, it makes it real hard to cook meats properly as my grill drops off from 400F to 250F in about thirty minutes. I do like the woody smoky flavor it leaves behind.

Poor Quality or Bad Handling by the seller ?

Charcoal was crushed with very little usable product

reply from The Good Charcoal Team

Hey, thanks for reaching out BM and we're sorry to hear this.
Our charcoal is 100% hardwood Acacia with nothing added, which means it's a natural product that can sometimes be more delicate than heavily processed alternatives. What you're describing sounds like it may have had a rough journey somewhere along the way, whether in transit to the store or in handling, and that's something we want to look into.
Can you reach out to us at hello@thegoodcharcoal.com with a few photos of what you received and let us know which Sam's Club location you picked it up from? That helps us a lot on our end and we'll make sure we take care of you.

Buy if you like dust size clumps

All small to dust pieces, no large clusters. Very disappointing.

Hey Jaime, thanks for the feedback and we're sorry to hear this.
What you're describing doesn't sound like a typical bag of ours and we'd really like to look into it. Our charcoal is 100% hardwood Acacia, natural with nothing added, which does mean pieces vary in size naturally. But dust and very small fragments throughout an entire bag suggests something may have gone wrong in handling before it got to you.
Reach out to us at hello@thegoodcharcoal.com with a few photos and let us know which Sam's Club location you picked it up from. We want to make this right for you personally.
