Great Charcoal

I've been using nothing but this stuff exclusively for the past 2 months and I cant say enough good things about it. It's starts easy, it holds a nice hot consistent temp, and I get twice the burn time I do with anything else. The lump goes great in the grill and the briquettes stack nicely on top of my Dutch oven. Couldn't ask for a better, more reliable charcoal

Poor quality, very small coals

It shouldn't even be called "premium"; it's really the lowest quality charcoal, like production scraps. I bought four bags thinking maybe I was just unlucky with the first three, but with this fourth bag, I confirmed it's extremely poor quality charcoal with pieces too small to even be called charcoal.

Hey Carlos, thanks for taking the time to leave this feedback, and honestly, four bags in, I completely understand the frustration. That's not the experience we want anyone to have, and it's not something we take lightly.
Our charcoal is 100% hardwood Acacia with no additives, binders, or fillers, which is what makes it genuinely different from most of what's on the market. But it also means the pieces can vary in size naturally depending on the batch and how it was handled getting to you. That said, what you're describing doesn't sound right, and we'd really like to look into it.
Please reach out to us directly at hello@thegoodcharcoal.com with a few photos of what you received and let us know which store you picked these up from. That detail really helps us track things down on our end so we can work to resolve it for you.

The Good Charcoal lights fast, burns clean

There's charcoal… and then there's what The Good Charcoal Company is doing. This isn't just fuel—it's the quiet co-pilot behind some of my best cooks. From the first spark, you can tell it's different. It lights fast, burns clean, and doesn't throw off that harsh, chemical funk that ruins flavor before you even get rolling. What you get instead is pure, honest heat—the kind that lets your wood, your seasoning, and your technique actually shine. The lump size? Solid. Not a bag of gravel dust like some others. I'm talking real chunks that give you control—whether I'm running a screaming hot sear for a tomahawk straight on the coals or settling into a steady burn for a longer cook. It holds temp like a champ and responds when you adjust airflow, which is everything in live fire cooking. Flavor-wise, it stays in its lane—in the best way possible. It doesn't overpower. It supports. That means when I layer in Tennessee cooking wood or finish with a glaze, I'm tasting what I built… not fighting the charcoal. And here's something that matters to me: it's made from reclaimed wood. So while I'm out here cooking over fire, I'm not burning through forests to do it. That's a win. Bottom line—this is the kind of charcoal that lets you cook with confidence. No guesswork. No weird burns. Just consistent, clean heat that shows up every time. If you're serious about live fire, this isn't optional gear… it's foundational.

Want to compete with the best, use the best

We compete in BBQ contests all over Iowa and ever since switching to The Good Charcoal Company, we have noticed how clean the lump charcoal burns, remains hot and is a highly quality lump charcoal. We will only be using The Good Charcoal Company from now on.

Disappointing waste of money

2nd rate broken up small pieces of charcoal that are useless as they fall through grates, thus you have to use way morez can't control fire as well as airflow is restricted due to most of the charcoal falling through the grates onto bottom of grill.

Hey Frank, thanks for laying that out and we hear you.
What you're describing isn't how a bag of ours should show up. Our charcoal is 100% hardwood Acacia with nothing added, so while pieces vary in size naturally, you should absolutely be getting chunks large enough to build and control your fire the way you want. A bag that's mostly small pieces points to something going wrong in handling before it reached you, and that's worth looking into.
Send us a few photos at hello@thegoodcharcoal.com and let us know which store you grabbed it from. We'll get you taken care of.

Not so good

I'm not one to complain but purchased this The Good Charcoal Lump last week from Sam's Club and the Lump size is less than a quarter coin in size, there was several pieces about 2" but I have never seen Lump charcoal like this, 3" of Lump dust in the bottom of the bag. Trying to light this Lump in a Chimney starter on on the grill grate much of this Good Charcole Lump falls through the grill grate or Chimney . Sorry for the negative review but it's just the truth, hopefully your company will outsource large wood pieces in the future.

Dear Redfin, Thank you for your candid feedback. We understand that our hardwood Acacia charcoal, made from the invasive bush, might not meet your expectations or needs depending on your grill setup. We would love to know which grill you’re using so we can look into this issue for you and make it right. Please reach out to us at Hello@TheGoodCharcoal.com, and we’d be happy to assist further.Best regards,The Good Charcoal Team
